How in the holy (*)(*)(*)(*) do you conclude that the is Obama's fault?

Jesus Christ, if this board were serious about raising the level of discourse, THIS is the type of (*)(*)(*)(*) they would get rid of.

Their hatred of Obama is greater than any attachment to the United States or Americans.

Plenty of evidence to support your assertion. Just a couple out of many, take their cheerleading of Vladmir Putin as another example. Also remember when Michigan lost the bid for the Olympics the anti-Americans were out in full force over that one too.

Does anyone doubt that if the Cowpens had done anything differently- i.e. forced the Chinese ship to evade, or fired on the Chinese ship or ended up colliding with the Chinese ship that they would be condemning Obama for those too?

Or if Obama wasn't committing strength to the Pacific- that they would condemn him for that also?

I hope you are not serious, Nightmare.

Yeah, because that wouldn't have any adverse consequences for the cruiser or for the United States if you either rammed them or opened fire on another nation's warship. You're talking at least a diplomatic incident if not the start of the Sino-American War.

I wouldn't be surprised if our own vessels have done similar to those of other navies in the past. The Chinese vessel in question was a part of their new carrier's escort group. Carriers are capital ships, and as such, their navies project a bubble around the capital ship so that no adversary or potential adversary could get through to potentially harm the capital ship.

A few years ago, I believe, our Navy had a bit of a scare when a PLA Navy Song-class SSK got within torpedo range of the USS Kitty Hawk. We were shocked and appalled that the Chinese were able to be that far advanced, and I wouldn't doubt that at least one head rolled because of it. This was back in 2007, by the way, in case anyone is going to try to pin that on Obama.

That commanding officer did exactly what commanding officers are supposed to do in the situation. When you are command of a billion-dollar ship of war with a complement of nearly four hundred sailors under your command, you protect them first. You don't challenge another warship.

Saying you're better than a commanding officer who has spent probably twenty years in the Navy, has a college degree and maybe two or three, and has devoted their entire careers to the goal of assuming command of a surface combatant because you played a board game a lot as a kid is a ridiculously naive and stupid comment.

Actually, Tom Clancy's novels aren't that bad, much of what he put into his novels was very well researched. If you look at some of his novels that are more political thrillers, they have some very sound lessons on how to judiciously apply military power.

    I was being 110% sarcastic.

Just a bit of satire to show some people how they sound when they think they know more than real life military commanders.

What worries me is that I 100% guarantee there are people reading that post right now saying "Hell yeah! It's about time someone gets it!"

Oh me to. I had several people the other day arguing with me that an uneducated unfactual opinion was just as valid as a fact based , educated opinion. Made me laugh.

At least we can take solace in the fact that those idiots aren't the ones in command of the military.

China has improved its military by leaps and bounds ever since Clinton made the MFN and let the run off with a treasure trove of our military secrets. Thank god our most advanced drone fell into Iranian hands and not theirs. Oh they trade? Damn.

Oh, it's not just this topic, it's EVERY topic imaginable. I just can't understand people sometimes.

Does anyone know just how much training the captain of this ship received before being put in command? I guarantee no one on this board has his qualifications here.

I find it funny and entertaining. Most people are harmless anyway, very rarely do advocates of anything on these forums actually go out and support their cause in real life.

This place would be pretty dull if people admitted they had no real idea of what they were talking about. We'd have maybe 2 discussions a day.

I find it aggravating as (*)(*)(*)(*). But then again, I despise stupid people and find no comedic value in their stupidity. But I recognize that is my own issue and that a message board must allow stupidity in order to survive.

I have only cursoral understanding of what I am talking about via family including naval commanders and flight surgeons. I have never even served. I leave this discussion to military folk. My only contribution was that this could have all been avoided by our leadership not emboldening the rising superpower which is now flexing its muscle. I don't find it funny, but I am completely unqualified to discuss what a navy commander "should" have done.

So I have no "real" idea what I am talking about. Not getting your boat struck by a Chinese carrier seems prudent to me. That is not my issue, why the Chinese feel confident enough to do so is.

So count me among the 2.

I dont have the qualifications but I do know two things. The captain of the vessel is responsible for the safety of the ship at all times. In the Navy, a collision is an automatic court marshal. Also in all instances the vessel to the left "Port tack" must yield when two ships are on a convergent course. The fact the two commanders were in contact suggests this might have been the real issue. Not some mythical pissing match between two navies

A completely different topic of course and one open for legitimate conversation.

I think there is quite a few reasons to believe that this administration's policies have emboldened our enemies. But I''m not sure if that is what happened here or not since we have no idea if the Chinese Cpt was acting under orders or what happened.

Obamacide is not clueless, but the American public is.
He intends to reduce American might and superiority just as he wrote should be done in that book he authored.

If you saw the Movie, 2012, the whole basic Dream of his father that the USA would withdrawal from the international scene, and disarm militarily.

His father believed that America had replaced Britain as the real force behind Colonialism especially as it had previously applied to Kenya, before the English were turned out and communism established in place of Free Enterprise.

So let me get this right, Obama sends US warships into an entirely new part of the world, and you come back and claim that he is reducing our might?

The two seem completely polar to the other.

My goodness, from the looks of this, the United States should have gone to DEFCON 1 status. How dare the Chinese humiliate us and cause us to lose face to the world!

The problem has to do with the U.N. ever expanding the claimant opportunities for nations with coastlines. At the dawn of time every seagoing sovereign entity was only entitled to 20 miles of territorial waters. Then there was peace. Then some corporations explored possibilities of extracting mineral wealth from seabeds, mainly metal pellets which sank to the bottom, which prompted the U.N to lay claims the profits from this wealth ought to be shared since oceans are international, so Reagan imposed a 200 mile economic exclusion zone, which made everyone follow suit and the U.N passed a resolution to that effect. Then there was some dissent, but still mainly peace. Now U.N passed another resolution allowing nations to extend a claim over international waters as long as those waters cover their continental shelves. Now there is war of sorts and warships doing the ramming speed thing. That's all because any nation can claim a piece of rock and then hundreds of miles of continental shelf around it. This assigns too much significance to just any rock. There is however a simple solution. Given the uninhabited nature of the islands acquired by Japan, they should be entitled to only 20 miles of territorial waters around them but not the economic exclusion zone. This restriction should apply to those islands alone. At the same time, Russia, Canada and Greenland should give up their imperialist claims to the North Pole and everything floating on ice and below it in the Arctic. Sensey says, those who squabble like convenience store employees miss out on Christmas sale.

hey, i hate Oloser as much as anyone else with common sense, but be honest? not avoiding a collision under any president will leave a captain w/o a command.
