Lets keep this simple there are many faiths outside the three spawned from the Torah. Off the top of my head Hinduism, Buddhism, Many Religions of Native Peoples, Religions of Ancient Times etc. what makes you think yours is right maybe Classical Pagan Deities are real and Christianity isn't? Its simpe to be an Atheist we just exclude the last faith on the list and assume all are bogus until proven otherwise and proof is up to Theists to provide.

And the Prophecies were written after they were made in the NT its easy to BS and make the Christ figure fit. In fact there is no proof of much of the Jesus Birth narrative no slaughter of the first born boys, no Empire wide census and even if they did a Roman one they always had the people stay where they lived and worked. Not march all over the empire that was moronic and impractical to do. Not to mention many of the other tales in the two testaments are not supported by evidence.

convenient, no? but I digress ... if the entity, or the effects of the entity, can't be detected on the corporeal plane (i.e., reality - the only thing we really have to work with), then it effectively doesn't exist. or may as well not exist, if it does but has no impact. does this flaw in the 'logic' not bother you?

many outlandish claims have been made in books, both old and new. none have ever been demonstrated to be true. ever.

I could, if I wasn't at work, show you many many MANY claimed fulfilment of prophecies. not one has survived closer scrutiny.

Terribly sorry for dropping out Paul, I lost all internet connection across the pond! Very frustrating, maybe it was divine intervention! I jest!

Right you asked where you said he wasn't a rapist?, here is your epiphany post #442

Wow, that really changes everything. What do you think FoxHastings? Taikoo? I predict this thread will get very quiet, LOL.

From this point on due to the intervention of a third party you now imply that your original statement should read Consensual Premarital Sex. Do you understand that this completely alters your original question and thread title? You do realise I presume that the man you called a rapist is now guilty of no crime at all, he is no longer a rapist but a lover. Without being rude can you understand a logical progression like this? You stated man was a Rapist, then from #442 you imply he is not.

Almost every modern convenience and invention that makes modern life bearable came from Western Christians. So did the first modern democracy.

I'm from the American pioneer stock that brought change, so people could stop living like pagans and savages---as much of the people in Central Asia still do.

    The bolding above:

    A. Did anyone ever ask "pagans and savages" if they WANTED to change?

    B. "Change" inlcuded being slaughtered, having religion shoved down their throats, herded like animals by these 'enlightened" pioneer stock.

    C. Your statement claiming western christians invented "almost" everything is just too ridiculous to answer. Please never study actual real history , you might have a heart attack...

In the alternate universe of your twisted imagination: Would you still want the Aztec around in Mexico in 2014 in their same culture and lifestyle, practicing their same religion? Would you want them taking slaves and cutting their hearts out on top of pyrimids?

Would you still tolerate Indio-facist leaders like Montezuma ruling in state next to you in 2014?

I don't see many native peoples in the Americas still WANTING to live the pagan Neolithic lifestyle. It sucks. Even the Natives living on reservations here in the US have pretty much the same modern conveniences as every one else.

Now, please give even ONE major modern invention that WASN'T from Westerners or Chistians. Please exclude:

Modern agriculture, modern ships, steam power, electrical power, nuclear power, air conditioning, autos, planes, trains, cycles, jets, telegraph, telephone, radio, television, cellphones, computers, electric lights, Modern medicine, Physics, Botany, and Chemistry and about 95% of every other modern thing.

    What am I missing?

Missing? The FACT that there is STILL bloodshed, slaughter, torture and slavery and it ain't Aztecs....

There's facists still trying to shove their beliefs down our throats right here in the US.

Your twisted view is what YOU think, "if they're not me, they're "wrong"", ...

"""""I don't see many native peoples in the Americas still WANTING to live the pagan Neolithic lifestyle. It sucks. Even the Natives living on reservations here in the US have pretty much the same modern conveniences as every one else.""""

You don't know any Native Americans, some would love to go back to pre- whites slaughterd us days..and some other people do, too.

I see you're OK with them having "pretty much" what everyone else has in YOUR enlightened world....

I think the natives who were put on reservations, with churchs, schools and medical care were more grateful than the they would have been if under the care of their Native enemies like the Apache or Commanche. Under their system, deafed women and children were taken as slaves and the captured braves were scalped ,or staked out over ant beds, of suffered some other form of terminal, long, gratutious torture.

That is a marvellous example of damning with faint praise.

White man genocide was better than slow torture.

    Probably so.

As for what i said, tho, the American natives actually were not grateful. Still are not.
You could find that fact, its hiding in plain sight.

You will be telling us next the majority of the founding fathers of the USA were christians!

If it wasn't for the Muslims we would not have the writings of Plato, Aristotle,Socrates, Pythagoras and Archimedes all saved from the Christian Church and translated by Muslim scholars.

Try inventing any of the things you listed above without the zero, if we had to rely on roman numerals we would still be in the dark ages.

And talking about The Dark Ages, if it wasn't for people risking there lives by being called Heretic's the age of enlightenment would never of happened.

The remarkable thing about Western Civilization was that it evolved despite the church not because of it!

I love how you chose to ignore what whites did to the Native Americans...but I suppose you'll insist that since THEY were white it was OK to slaughter, torture, hang them for being indians, herd them like animals....but if Native did it to Native then it's bad...that's TWISTED!!!!!

Just look around you, find something significant---not the APP on your cellphone, but maybe the first cellphone---then see who invented it.

    http://inventors.about.com/od/inventorsalphabet/tp/popularinventor.htm

Randomly, the above site lists 10 inventors. Washington Carver was half-White, so that makes it 95% on that part. You may be saddened to hear that he was also a Christian.

Try to give credit where credit is due. :hmm:

I love your prejudiced view of history. Why should Native Americans be held to a different standard? Please elaborate on the welfare system that Pre-Colombian Natives had for the peoples they fought with.

I'm saying White on Native overall was far less worse than Native on Native. The idea of the "Noble Savage" is overrated.

NO, you held them to different standards . YOU posted that what they did was bad but what white christians did was OKEYDOKEY.

Now, instead of committing the christian's sin of pride(bragging, look what we did!) and lying why not address the topic, we are off topic.

I think you missed the MODERN part on inventions. What have the Muslims invented in the last few hundred years? Anything?

The American Founding Fathers were all Christians or Christian tolerant, diests and others from our Western, Christian culture. There were no Buddists, Muslims, Hindus---or even Pagan Romans or Greeks for that matter.

Where is it where of many of the world's poorest and most backward people still live in the Dark Ages?

Why it's where your Islamic friends in North Africa and Mid-East are.

Sorry, but it was not the will of Allah that a Christians created the first printing press using a language taken from dozens of different cultures. If Mulsim scholars were all that, they'd certainly be inventing and discovering more new things instead of just copying.

There were atrocities on all sides. But of the sum total, the end result is that Native Americans were enriched by Westerners and Christians far more than if their lands had been taken over by Mongols, Sub-Saharan Africans, Asians, Hindus, Buddists, Islamics or Marxists.

Oh, I almost forgot, you never did challege the expert opinion on Biblical rape laws that I gave you.

:) You "christians" sure like to brag(Pride is a sin but you sure overlook it as you do ALL christians who sin)...any "enrichment" wasn't because anyone was a christian. I like how you justify your sins by saying, "gee, we're not as bad as other religions if ya just ignore history"

And your buybull? a collection of vicious , violent nasty fairy tales and nothing more...

Because some are fraudulent in no way proves all are. I don't dismiss all other religious claims to the supernatural as false, but would ascribe them to demonic activity. You're the one who disbelieves all such accounts, not me.

Really, how would Jesus arrange His place of birth and manner of death, the latter described by Cornelius Tacitus, called Rome's greatest historian?

Not true. From an article by Dr. Richard P. Bucher:

"But what of the census that Luke 2:1 speaks of? Is there any record outside of the Bible that Augustus ever issued such a decree? Yes. As a matter of fact he authorized three censuses during this reign. How do we know this? The three censuses are listed in the Acts of Augustus, a list of what Augustus thought were the 35 greatest achievements of his reign. He was so proud of the censuses that he ranked them eighth on the list. The Acts of Augustus were placed on two bronze plaques outside of Augustus's mausoleum after he died.

The three empire-wide censuses were in 28 B.C., 8 B.C., and 14 A.D. In all probability the one in 8 B.C. is the one the Luke mentions in the Christmas story. Even though scholarship normally dates Christ's birth between 4 and 7 B.C., the 8 B.C. census fits because in all likelihood it would have taken several years for the bureaucracy of the census to reach Palestine."

Not true again. From the same source:

"Some scholars have scoffed at the notion that people in faraway Palestine (such as Joseph and Mary) would have had to travel to their ancestral birth place for a census. But we have evidence to show that such traveling was indeed done with a Roman census, in Egypt at least. A Roman census document, dated 104 A.D., has been discovered in Egypt, in which citizens were specifically commanded to return to their original homes for the census.6 Another census document from 119 A.D. has been found in which an Egyptian man identifies himself by giving (1) his name and the names of his father, mother, and grandfather; (2) his original village; (3) his age and profession; (4) a scar above his left eyebrow; (5) his wife's name and age, his wife's father's name; (6) his son's name and age; (6) the names of other relatives living with him. The document is signed by the village registrar and three official witnesses.7 This latter document is of special interest, because it gives us an idea of the kind of information that Joseph and Mary would have had to provide for the census."

The only Muslim recent invention I can think of is the suicide vest. Muslims are 20% of the world's population and have received 6 Nobel Prizes (and one went to the terrorist Arafat), while Jews are .2% of the world's population and have gotten 140+ Nobel's.

Exactly, take at look at these atrocities, if you have a strong stomach: http://www.reclinercommentaries.com/2011/04/fate-worse-than-death.html They also had a taste for cannibalism, and of course the Aztecs tore the hearts out of hundreds of thousands of victims from neighboring tribes. This is why the Spanish were so victorious with small numbers, the local tribes were sick of being abused. Apparently the atheists wish that were still going on.

Was it a terrible thing the British founded Hong Kong?

So you're essentially borrowing from Christianity. What is rational about not stealing from someone if you can get away with it?

Your links don't address Dr. Bucher's points. That aside, if the Bible records an event and we didn't yet have a second source for it, is that supposed to mean the Bible event never happened? There have been similar cases of Biblical events/people that were scoffed at, until archaeology confirmed them.

Sorry, every one of those predates Christianity and/or is simply independent of it.
