Everyone was working on a Doomsday Device...specifically a Thermonuclear Plutonium Bomb with a Colbalt Casing.....explosive yeild 2.3 Gigatons.

What is the purpose of such a weapon?

It really has none other than killing everyone.

Besides a Bioweapon is much better at doing that.

AboveAlpha, My post was a copy and paste from Stanley Kubrick's classic Cold War movie "Dr. Strangelove."

In my my opinion the best "Cold War" movie ever produced.

In fact right after I posted my response I went to the internet and brought up "Dr. Strangelove" the movie and after over almost 30 years not seeing the movie, I watched the movie again and I still say it's the best "Cold War" movie ever produced.

    It's here -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPs5p3q05JE

The first time I watched the movie was when I was only 14 years old in 1964 during the Cold War.
(A year later we sent U.S. Marines into Vietnam)

Last night when I watched the movie I didn't laugh as much as I did fifty years ago but I did LOL a few times and that's the way it was back then.

Col. Kong was the best, Since 1964, every U.S. Air Force bomber pilot has always tried to fill his boots of Col. Kong.

It's my favorite Cold War Movie as well along with ICE STATION ZEBRA which is a 1968 Cold War era suspense and espionage film directed by John Sturges, starring Rock Hudson, Patrick McGoohan, Ernest Borgnine, and Jim Brown.

In Dr. Strangelove or How I learned to love the Bomb....LOL!!!

I LOVE PETER SELLER'S as he keep's trying to stop his arm from going up and saying Heil Hitler!! LOL!!!

    Slim Picken's is awesome too!!!

"Ice Station Zebra" makes my top ten list of "Cold War" movies of all times so does the "Manchurian Candidate" (the original with Frank Sinatra) and "Fail Safe" and the "Bedford Incident" and many more.

Over on the unmentionable political website I use to start threads that were very popular that got hundreds of post responses and thousands of views.
What was the best WW ll movie ? What was the best WW l movie ? What was the best Civil War movie ? What was the best Vietnam War movie ? What was the best Cold War movie ? etc. Then soon some one started what was the best western movie ?

Most were surprised what were my top WW ll war movies, one being "Mister Roberts." And I explained why.

As far as WWII movies there is THE GREAT ESCAPE which believe it or not has a HUGE FAN BASE in CHINA of all places!!

Also KELLY'S HERO'S, THE DIRTY DOZEN, A BRIDGE TOO FAR, SAVING PRIVATE RYAN....there are so many good ones!

Vietnam....you have PLATOON, Apocalypse Now, and there is a good one I can't remember the name of with Mel Gibson as the movie is about the use of U.S. AIR CAVALRY, and THE GREEN BERET'S with John Wayne.

And who doesn't love M*A*S*H* for a Korea movie?

Patton is AWESOME with George C. Scott and Karl Malden.

But if I had to pick one of them I could watch over and over again just to have fun I love KELLY'S HERO'S with Clint Eastwood, Telly Savalas, Don Rickles, Carroll O'Connor...etc...as it is funny as HELL!!!

I like the part when they walk up to the Tiger Tank and tell the German Officer what the deal is and then the very next scene you see is the Tiger Tank blowing down the Bank's Door! LOL!!!

The Mel Gibson movie was "We Were Soldiers Once... And Young " a true story and a very significant battle in the Ia Drang Valley that changed the war. The NVA weren't stupid but actually very smart. They studied American tactics and learned very quickly how Americans used fire support (artillery, naval gunfire and close air support)

The NVA learned to get up close and personal with American soldiers and Marines where they were so close that you couldn't use all of that artillery, naval gunfire and air support that we had at our disposal.

M*S*S*H* was actually an anti Vietnam War Hollywood Left movie. It took place during the Korean War but was really suppose to be Vietnam.
When the movie first came out it was forbidden to be shown in Vietnam and on U.S. military bases. But the Pentagon stood down and allowed the movie to be shown. In fact I first saw M*A*S*H* while in-country. There was a lot of controversy over the movie back then. Probably the most I ever laughed in Vietnam was when watching that movie. There was so much that could be related to being in the Nam.

I remember a bunch of us mostly sergeants and a few ROK Marines also came along and we were headed to the former U.S. Navy PBR base at Hoi An to watch the movie. I remember we were taking a short cut and some ARVAN soldier tried to stop us and actually pointed his M-16 at us and we jumped all over his ass and disarmed him and this one ROK Marine took the ARVAN's M-16 away from him and kept it and we continued walking to the PBR base laughing our asses off.. :roflol:

My Team and I use Barrett's.....as the REC7 uses the 6.8mm Remington SPC (6.8×43mm) cartridge.

We also use several varients of the Barrett M82.

And since I am the OLD MAN now and it kills me to stay in the shape I currently am in....as huffing it over hard terrain with a buch of 20 somethings is soon coming to an end for me....but for now I was instrumental and getting a Lightweight Body Armor available for us as it is IMPOSSIBLE to move quickly over difficult terrain while carrying weapons, ammo, equipment and Quadrapods for the M82's all the while having to wear heavy body armor with ceramic or steel plates.

So....I don't usually have time to watch movies but when I and my Team were asked for BY NAME to run and provide security for Lower Level Talks that are done to agree upon schedules and protocols of higher level talks between the Palestinian's and the Israeli's...and I HATE THIS PART OF THE WORLD!!!!!

The first time we did this the only reason I agreed to do it was because I owed a friend my LIFE and he asked me if I would do it and I said OK.....and then proceeded to spend several months BABYSITTING the biggest bunch of whining little B!#@HE$ I have ever delt with in my LIFE!!!

EVERTHING boiled down to an argument and these A$$#@!%$ even argued over whether it would be Bottled Water Served on the Negociation Table or whether it would be pitchers of Ice Water with Glasses!!!

I was trying to get home and I decided to act in a manner that would ensure I would never get asked again so I moved the talks to a shallow deep underground bunker with poor Air Conditioning and would not allow the Body Guards to come within 100 meters of the bunker.

Then....I LOCKED THE IN THE ROOM AND SHUT OFF THE A/C and they called their Body Guards to come extract them as I had HAD IT as I was there for close to 7 weeks in the summer at that point and they were getting nowhere!!!

Their Body Guards started driving their Mercedes Limo's toward the bunker and I had one of my Guy's shoot out two of these vehicles front tires with M82's which not only blows the tire but obliterates the wheel...the breaks....the suspension...etc.

After all that they finally came to a basic agreement and I thought....GREAT!! THEY ARE NEVER GOING TO ASK ME TO DO THIS AGAIN!!! YAHOO!!!

    Boy was I wrong.

In doing what I did I eveidentally showed them I hated all sides equally and I had to do this 2 more times! SUCKED!

Anyways....the 2nd time I was there and things started going bad....the Bunker is set up with Large sceen TV displays for Computer Files or Pictures or whatever.....so I am in this room and they are arging and I just had my.. 2nd put on a PBS U.S. Military Movie I grabbed off my buddy called....INSIDE THE KILLL BOX.

I don't know if you have seen this but the title is self explanitory.

And I had my 2nd put up the vollume and I just sat and watched the Movie.

    All sides were STUNNED!!!

They didn't understand why I was doing this and they got a bit scared....and there really was no message I was trying to send other then if you A$$#@!E$ are going to waste my time I am going to watch TV!! LOL!!!

I would stop all refugee intakes and make these people fight for their own freedom, like so many countries have had to do for Centuries. Allowing these people into owe own Countries is like allowing them into your own home and i'm not prepared to put my Family at risk for anyone. Its a great opportunity for Isis to infiltrate. I hear these People are Leaving because of the Impending Bombing by allied Forces "not" because of Isis and as such can only assume most would be simplifectic to the Isis Cause. They need to show they are willing to adapt to other cultures and or try to attempt to fix their own countries before they can expect the world to welcome them with open arms.

That is 1335 YEARS OF FIGHTING!!!

    ISIS is not the problem

We need to start taking a serious look into how our countries are managed.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxVEfBFgTtM watch this video, this explains what could potentially be done to create a world where public opinion is taken more seriously. Achievable, yet hasn't been done yet.

Only then can we get on with ISIS and other world threats...

    Sorry, complete fail.

If you can't make your case by itself and not saying "watch this video", then you have not made any point at all.

Not to mention the video is not even there anymore.

There were some damned good Cold War movies. It is a style that is impossible to make today.

In no particular order, my favorites are the following:

    The Hunt for Red October
    Fail Safe
    The Third Man
    Dr. Strangelove
The Atomic Cafe (a good collection of many Cold War era clips and shorts)
    Red Dawn
    Threads
    A Boy and His Dog
    War Games
The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming

And 2 excellent TV movies, "Special Bulletin" and "Countdown To Looking Glass". Both are presented much as Orson Wells presented "War of the Worlds", as interruptions into regular TV broadcases.

The Saudi's are guilty of funding Madrasas and while not all of these religious schools are a problem some of them are terrorist breading grounds.

We are not fighting ISIS. We do not take out their cell phone towers, communications networks, petroleum pipelines and delivery networks or electric grid.

The reason is because Western interests own those assets or profit from them. So all the talk of defeating ISIS is an outright lie by all countries and both the GOP and Democrats. You do not leave an enemy with billions of dollars income, utilities, command and control, and communications networks if you are trying to defeat that enemy.

True, I never been to Saudi Arabia, not even to the Middle East. But...my better half has and has done business with King Fahd, King Hussein of Jordan and a few other Arab monarchs or dictators some best not to mention. She stayed in their palaces and made millions off of them. Hey, there were only three people in the world that were good at what she does.

What I should have posted above, America is down to only one ally in the Middle East who has been loyal and can be trusted. That's King Abdullah II of Jordan. And as you have noticed recently he has been meeting with Putin and seems to be cozying up to Russia. Obama has thrown to many Middle East allies under the bus that our former allies were asking, "Am I next" ? Israel don't trust Obama. Under Obama America has become completely irrelevant in the Middle East. Putin has filled the vacuum and are now the new bully in the Middle East neighborhood.

Israel's is and will continue to be a U.S. ally.

Netty is just attempting to insert himself into American politics and the election as he want's a GOP President in office as the GOP has always given Israel what it want's.

There is no need to worry about Israel continuing to be a U.S. ally as we are their biggest supporters.

Jordan's King Abdullah II went to school in the U.S. and his Mom was born in DC.

    I know him.

He went to a Prep School....Deerfield Acadamy...right up the road from me.

    He is VERY Americanized.

I have no reason not to believe you, no one can make (*)(*)(*)(*) up like that.

I live on the "left coast" and you have all kinds of Arab monarch family members going to school or just partying. Had to be in the mid 70's working my way through college as a electrician. Was doing a job at one of those mansions either in Beverly Hills or Brentwood and the kid who lived their received a delivery from UPS. I glanced at the package and I noticed "HRH" before his name. I asked the kid what's "HRH" ? He said "His Royal Highness" expecting me to bow like Barack Obama and drop to my knees.

Told the *******, maybe out in the Sahara Desert but not in America. We fought a war against King George to eliminate monarchies and aristocrats from the colonies.

I've heard many good things about Abdullah II before he became King of Jordan.

I have some good stories about his father King Hussein.

I'll stand by my claim that King Abdullah is the last Arab ally we have in the Middle East. As for Israel, Israel can't survive without America. Israels support comes from Congress and the American people, not from the Obama White House.

I support small ops, special ops, surgical strikes to take down key locations for ISIS. This would be the most effective plan of action, the lowest casualty estimate, and its unlikely that the public would take it the wrong way (which they do a lot)

    QUOTE OF THE ARTICLE

"Every time the army messes up, the people get mad, they think it was corruption, we didn't try, or something like [that], but even when we win they think that we messed up, if we were fighting terrorists, its racist, if it's against a civilian riot, its unjust force, so what's better? Because as a commander either way you end up screwed"

I can't say his name, it's a friend of mine
