This is a poll, so you don't have to comment, and it can't be traced. Per another thread, there is a person who thinks that the majority of firearms are held by a few people... all of us are just buying them up and there are not new owners. So, you don't need to comment to show your range that you own, and I would say not to comment on how many you own. However, you can vote to show everyone without having to worry about people knowing what you got.
Some were my first when I was little. They never get shot but I will never get rid of them. Some bought because I thought I wanted them, and now I don't know why. I never get rid of any. Then I don't have to worry about where they end up. And then I have my favorites for plinking and hunting.
I used to own guns...till the barbed wire accident that caused the flood that swept them away somewhere....
I guess the logic should go that the folks with the most guns are going to be the best able to defend themselves in most any situation. However, I don't think the 50+ guy with his collection of old bolt action rifles wouldn't be any match for a 20 something guy with combat service or police training that has only one handgun and one rifle.
maybe not though I am a 50+ year old guy who has had lots of firearms training and I am pretty good with a bolt gun out to about 800M people with the training you talk about rarely are mopes
I'm well over 60, in very good shape (I cycle 6,000 mi plus a year) and have everything ranging from back powder guns, many I built, to an AR 15. I not only shoot and train very frequently and participate in advanced combat drills and in combat simulations, but also teach martial arts and various gun courses, some of which I have taught to law enforcement people. I'd stack my performance against anyone at any age.
Here's the thing: when gun owners are worried about administrations and legislation that negatively impacts their 2A right, they will lie to pollsters. If you look at historical polling results, you will see dips in gun ownership that corresponds the with anti-gun rhetoric following high-profile incidents; John Lennon, Ronald Regan, Sandy Hook, etc. Your poll is no different; I declined to answer. So, that polls show household gun ownership is falling, even though every other indicator shows it is skyrocketing, is based on that phenomenon. People who are worried about anti-gun rhetoric are going to lie to pollsters about whether they have a gun in the house, for obvious reasons. I can't imagine, given the current political climate around gun control, that any rational person would tell a random caller whether he has a gun in his house or not. Not only for that reason, but what incentive would you have to tell some phone caller you didn't know if you were armed or not? Polls regarding gun ownership cannot be regarded as remotely accurate.
That's cool. Just from what I've seen with some guys with stacks and stacks of old bolt guns and other old guns---as them being "the it" when in comes to personal defense. Only as sniper weapons are bolt guns going to be good choice for defensive needs. Bolt action (lever action, etc) guns are obsolete as standard military issue MBR's. Could a typical modern grunt with an M-4 take out a stone killer or super shooting expert like Sgt York armed with his old 30.06? Probably not. But most folks are not Sgt York. So most folks that want the most useful rifle for most every defensive scenario would be best served with an AR or AK type weapon. I take a more holistic approach to defense and only have a couple of modern military weapons. But I have the training and the fancy gear like plates and Kevlar to go with the guns for the worst case situations.
A shooting enthusiast with an old cap and ball revolver is going to take out a 20 something newb with his Glock. But I'd suggest the average guy get a Glock or something like that. The problem with a Ruger Scout is that the bolt and large magazine would dig into my back and it would knock over merchandise walking around Wal Mart. Not the best for using while in my car.
Me too! There are some very well-armed Orca's out there.....somewhere.... plotting dastardly things....
Can't be traced huh? Well according to one poster here that starts with the letter "R", he has said he only has one gun. Let's pray his one gun won't be traced by the ATF and taken from him if Hillary gets elected.
Your poll is not reliable. . .as you chose to ignore those who own ZERO firearm! I do not own a firearm, and NEVER will. I feel a lot safer without it!
I am pro-choice when it comes to owning a gun, I choose not too if you want an accurate poll, adding zero would of made sense .
I'm pretty sure the poll was a poll of gun OWNERS. The OP states the purpose of the poll is to find out how many guns your average gun owner possesses. I don't think it was for the purpose of determining who owns guns.
Not in all circumstances. . .but ignoring feelings in a highly charged emotional encounter is ridiculous and totally skew any findings! Now. . .what does that have to do with this particular poll? I believe you are OFF TOPIC!
I don't get emotional in confrontations. That's how you lose them. I was just responding to your post, so if we're off topic....
Feelings and emotion are devoid of any relevance in the discussion. The only thing that is of any actual relevance is facts themselves. Anything else is just useless chatter utilized by those who cannot make a compelling argument otherwise.
That is such an ignorant comment! Why do you think people believe they need guns for safety? BECAUSE OF THEIR FEELING OF FEAR. Why do you think people commit murder or suicide? BECAUSE OF ANGER (feeling) and despair (feeling). . . ONLY psychopath kill without FEELINGS and emotions. How can you possibly believe that you can face a person with a loaded gun and ignore the FEELINGS and EMOTIONS that fill both YOU and the person with the loaded gun? Why do you think that police and military TRAIN specialists to diffuse situations by analyzing and USING emotions of people who are about to commit suicide, or who threaten to kill hostages? If you believe that you can use FACTS alone, without considering the FEELINGS and EMOTIONS involved in an explosive/dangerous/threatening situation, YOU ARE NOT CONSIDERING the whole FACTS! Emotions are a FACT OF LIFE, especially during highly charged situation. We are not robots, we are not computers, and only psychopaths have no feelings and emotions. And that is a FACT!
Then the poll should have been defined as "for gun owners only!" But it certainly would NOT have made the poll less reliable if the option "ZERO FIREARM" would have been added!
