This is an 'I'm curious question' because I really would like to know what exactly feminism means by 'equality' between men and women.
They mean that we can hold the door for them as an act of chivalry but not expect them to hold the door for us because that would be us taking advantage of hospitality.
It's not equality between the sexes, it's treating both sexes equally....equal pay for equal work, equal opportunities, equal opportunities for advancement, equal education, equality under the law, the right to own a company, own land, own a patent, vote, ...it has nothing to do with opening doors. It means treating people like people and not having to decide how to treat them based on whether they have a vagina or a penis.....just common sense.
That tax-payer should fund so that the state can start programmes that serve to help supposed "oppressed collectives" such as women and non-whites can get success for free. It is quite scary. Feminism was not always about Socialist bollox. When it started it was all about freedom for women, but in the 60's and 70's it was kudnapped and monopolised by radicals on the far left and now we stand with all this affermitive action, safe space and pink tax nonsense. Ugh.
To me equality is not always an absolute. In some cases we can make it an absolute like allowing a woman to go topless anywhere a man can. In other cases it may be much harder to determine if a woman is being treated equally, for example in the work place. I think equality is something to strive for but I know of no universal assessment to determine how close we are to the mark.
Well, white men always got success for free.......freedom from competition from women and non-whites. I 'm sure it did become scary for some men when equal rights came along. Feminism wasn't about freedom for women, it was, and is, about equal rights for women....which did give them more freedom which some people find frightening...
WHich we now have and no one is trying to take away. This is why feminists mean none of those things they have already been achieved. Feminists have a darker agenda usually just cultural marxism and misandry - - - Updated - - - No on claims it is frightening and no success ever came free. IF feminists wanted men to compete with them they would oppose affirmative action
In what world? I am 100% for equal rights, Nah. Feminism was quite Liberal when it started. They fought for the woman's right to wear whatever she please, right to vote, right to educate and right to work. Then the Beauvoirians came along in the 70's and now we have all this identity crap.
You'll both refuse to believe that every group or movement (including religion and politics ) have their extremists....they do not speak for the entire group... Feminism stands for equality and women's rights and with all the misinformation it's clear there are those who fear equality and need to make it look like something it's not.
Certainly. But, quite frankly the ones who scream the loudest are the ones who will be associated with the movement in question. When it comes to Feminism, it is the radical extremists who take up all attention and, in a sense, they have managed to not only take the lead of- but also to monopolise the whole movement as such. Feminism of today is a radical ideology. The ideolouges are extremists of the far, far, far left and the only thing they seem to be fighting for is, sadly, absolutely nothing. Additionally, a movement with so many branches and such ambiguity and disession concerning the definition, methods and even goals, it is doomed to result in failure. Feminism of today is no more than a ridiculous caricature of itself. I am not entirely for equality. Not because I am scared of it, but because it is stupid. However, I fully support equal rights and equal responsibilities. For all.
Wrong Feminism is basically extremism which is why few call themselves feminism. You have no evidence that anyone fears equality. Women have equal rights and opportunity and no one is trying to reverse that. No feminist fights for equality they fight for misandry.
It is the best lie to ever be constructed that the one who opposes Feminism opposes equality. This way Feminists never really have to defend their arguments when being confronted, when they feel pressured they can just pull the "u is of much misogyny"-card, trying to silence their opponent with classic bully tactics and it is disgusting.
Do you believe women should be equally accountable for the consequences of their actions and choices??? Do you believe women should be just as accountable as men when they commit the same crimes as men, or do you believe women should get 63% reduced sentence when they commit the same crimes as men and that's after being many times less likely to even be prosecuted in the first place after they are arrested??? Do you believe women should be accountable for their career choices, such as choosing a major at university that doesn't result in them being qualified for a lucrative career when they graduate that men are more likely to be qualified for because of what they chose to study at university or do you believe feminists should continue to blame men for the consequences of women's career choices??? Do you believe women should be accountable for their choices when they go to a bar, get drunk, have sex with a man then regret it the next day and therefore call it rape, blaming men for the consequences of their choices??? Do you believe women should be equally accountable as men for the consequences of their actions and choices.
Except, I'm female and was a feminist .. until the Third Wave started, then I had to distance myself. Anyone who thinks Third Wave Feminism is about equal rights is sorely out of touch.
I read a feminist Ghostbusters review that was written by a feminist and she said - "This is what equality looks like!". So for some feminists gender equality means that females should create the same inequality that they have been complaining about but worse because men need a dose of our own medicine. Apparently the original Ghostbusters that everyone really liked was sexist because all of the main characters were men. The original Ghostbusters did not have a hot secretary in it - the original Ghostbusters had an ugly secretary and none of the original Ghostbusters workplace sexually harassed her or anything like that but in the new feminist Ghostbusters the female Ghostbusters have an attractive secretary in Chris Hemesowrth and they have only given him the job because he is so good looking and the females Ghostbusters like to look at him. And it is ok for females to act sexist and to objectify a male even though feminists seem to be against this very same behaviour when men do it - because the feminists are giving us males a dose of our own medicine and we all really deserve it - especially those misogynist males that live in their mothers basements that would be lucky to get a female to look at them let alone a hot female secretary to objectify and harass. It doesnt matter that original Ghostbusters didnt have a hot secretary in it or that the original Ghostbusters did not workplace harass her or give her the job because of her looks because the original Ghostbusters were men and all men are guilty of harassing our hot secretaries even if we dont have a secretary or we have one that we employed because she was the best person for the job and we treat her or him with respect. The whole thing is very much like how feminists complain about how all men are sex crazed pigs that are heroes for putting notches on our bedposts - so instead of trying to advocate for the males that are like this to have more respect for females the feminists go out on a Slut Walk and tell us that they are all massive sluts and have no shame. If all feminists are massive sluts then why do they have a problem with males sluts? It turns out that feminists were not actually against the behaviour of men that they complained about - they were just jealous. Basically feminists want to be men. My guess is that a lot of feminists have the penis envy.
Yes. Yes, but you cannot lay the blame for this at the feet of women .. it is the courts that still operate under the impression that women are the "weaker" sex ie incapable, helpless, etc. and victims of the environment. Been down this road a few times with you and despite all your bluster you still haven't been able to provide a reliable explanation for the ~5% variation in pay after all considerations have been taken into account. Absolutely no different for men .. you do know that a woman can be charged with rape as well I assume. They are.
I still am waiting for a Feminist to give me some reasonable reason on why we need Feminism. Never have I yet ever heard that reasonable reason.
Empowering women does not mean belittling or punishing men. Men, too, suffer from gender role assumptions that place expectations upon them to live and act a certain way. Feminists believe each person should be viewed based on their individual strengths and capabilities as a human being, not the strengths and capabilities assumed of their gender. They believe every person should be treated equally not because of gender, but in spite of it. Some believe the patriarchal system doesnt exist because we have equal employment opportunities. But if this were really the case would there still be a pay gap? We need feminism because FGM (Female Genital Mutilation), the act of cutting off and restitching female genitals to prevent pleasurable sex and can happen to girls as young as 5 months old is still practised in 29 countries. Because more than 120 countries dont have laws against marital rape, and still allow child brides some as young as 6 years old. While the question why do we need feminism is still being asked then you know feminism is still required. In order to be considered a feminist, you only need to be on board with one idea: All humans, male and female, should have equal political, economic and social rights.
Noooo! We are all individuals and free to make our own choices. Although structures exist, it does not mean agency does not. Furthermore structures can never be defeared because there will always be new ones. I do not agree at all. It is more like, Feminists believe each person should be viewed based on his/her physical attributes and his "collective identity" rather than as the individual he/she actually is. Hint; there is not! FGM is complicated issue. For the communitues practising it, it is very important and has nothing to do with sex. Furthermore, there are different verisions of it and the act is completely ruled and performed by women. I am not a fan of cultural imperialism and think we should leave these communities alone and not go there to try educate them to become like us. What about male circumcisoon? In the US it happens to boys as young as 5 seconds! And why do Feminist then support men from these countries coming to our countries? Haha. What kind of logic is that? "People ask why men rape that is why society needs rape." Sounds awful.
and nowhere have I stated otherwise. and I disagree Hint, there is, even the most comprehensive studies cannot account for ~5% variance when ALL aspects are taken into consideration. The reasons given for practicing FGM fall generally into five categories: Psychosexual reasons: FGM is carried out as a way to control womens sexuality, which is sometimes said to be insatiable if parts of the genitalia, especially the clitoris, are not removed. It is thought to ensure virginity before marriage and fidelity afterward, and to increase male sexual pleasure. Sociological and cultural reasons: FGM is seen as part of a girls initiation into womanhood and as an intrinsic part of a communitys cultural heritage. Sometimes myths about female genitalia (e.g., that an uncut clitoris will grow to the size of a penis, or that FGM will enhance fertility or promote child survival) perpetuate the practice. Hygiene and aesthetic reasons: In some communities, the external female genitalia are considered dirty and ugly and are removed, ostensibly to promote hygiene and aesthetic appeal. Religious reasons: Although FGM is not endorsed by either Islam or by Christianity, supposed religious doctrine is often used to justify the practice. Socio-economic factors: In many communities, FGM is a prerequisite for marriage. Where women are largely dependent on men, economic necessity can be a major driver of the procedure. FGM sometimes is a prerequisite for the right to inherit. It may also be a major income source for practitioners. Yes there are different versions, none of which are neccessary. Not so on the ruled and performed by women completely, usually it is a woman .. but not always,in fact in some countries the majority are performed by a health care worker. I'm sorry but a practice that is both barbaric and not required should not be ignored. Absolutely agree, another barbaric act that has no reason to happen ... though it is by far less of a trauma than FGM. Evidence? Way to go complete off on a tangent. No doubt equality is awful to some.
Feminists blame white men for the sentencing gap. Feminists also blame white men for the wage gap. Why do feminists care a great deal about the wage gap but do not care about the sentencing gap when the cause of both according to feminists is the same, white men? Feminists only care about perceived inequalities when they effect women. When an inequality effects men and is advantageous to women they don't care. How can a movement stand for equality when it only cares about perceived inequalities that effect women and doesn't care about advantageous inequalities that favor women. That's not Equality.
So Fugazi are you coming to the realization that Feminism is not an equality movement??? It is in fact a politically correct female supremacist hate movement similar to the KKK in the south in the early 20th century???
It is an equality movement, one that focuses on making women equal to men. Perhaps you would be better served addressing your points to a male focussed movement that seeks to eradicate injustices to men such as MRM., instead of trying to lay the blame at the feet of feminists.
