What we should all be far more concerned about is the astronomically high price our government paid for the drone!!!Yet another taxpayer rip off by our Defense Department.Corruption.
From Wiki: By international law, the notion of a country's sovereign airspace corresponds with the maritime definition of territorial waters as being 12 nautical miles (22.2 km) out from a nation's coastline.
US drones are used in the Strait of Hormuz to keep an eye on the shipping lanes. Spy satellites are better at spying on Iran.
The US claims the drone was over International waters. If Trump wanted war he could have used the attacks on the tankers or the rocket attacks on Saudi Arabia as excuse. The truth is Trump does NOT want war and the Iranians know it. A ground war is out of the question, Iran has 400,000 troops, and the US could never deploy enough men to match that number. Our maximum strength in Iraq was 140,000, and we had great difficulty maintaining that. We have troop obligations in Korea and Germany. That leaves only an air war, where we would have an advantage, but if even one plane was shot down and one pilot captured, we'd be screwed. We'd never be able to get them back and we would be humiliated. That leaves just drones and cruise missiles - and they are hardly likely to be decisive. Our military is also war weary from Iraq and Afghanistan. CNN analyist Frederick Pleitgen wrote today, "The Iranians believe that President Trump does not want war ....." This is why they are making provocations. They believe they can get away with it. The Iranian theocrats rule their people through fear and intimidation, and can't afford to look weak in front of their people. Tyrants can only be successful if they look strong.
We won't do anything but bitch, complain, and rattle our saber. Even under Donald Trump, we're too cowed and afraid of what the rest of the world would 'say' if we smashed those insane, Islamo-Nazis into oblivion. Besides, Trump would need to comply with the War Powers Act and get permission from Congress (which "Messiah" Obama never did before he overthrew the government of Libya) before taking Iran to task. But, can you imagine any of those radical, America-hating Democrat c*cksuckers in Congress actually cooperating with Donald Trump on Iranian aggression against the United States in international waters?
It depends. If death is the penalty in their legal for system for espionage and the convict a spy of it, then that is not an act of war. It is an act of justice.
Well, our spies are IN other countries, so it's not really a similar case. It all depends on where this thing was when it was shot down, but since nobody trusts anyone in this administration, this would be a stupid thing to go to war over.
Got a link that clarifies that? Common sense would dictate that Iran and the other countries bordering the Straits would have some sovereignty beyond the beach.
Why couldn't Trump just attack Iran like he did Syria? He doesn't need Congressional authorization for that. And since when has Trump cared what Congress thinks???
Iran's Downing of US Drone 'Clear Message' to America − IRGC Commander https://sputniknews.com/world/20190...e-clear-message-to-washington-irgc-commander/
I don't know if this bit of information is in the OP https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/us-official-says-iran-shot-down-us-drone-over-strait-hormuz Real News was also talking about Trump linking Iran to Isis and the Taliban with they believe the intent on going to war with Iran without the approval of Congress. This NYT article is saying he is relating them to Al Qaeda but for the same reason https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/19/us/politics/us-iran.html It was yesterday that happened. It is perfectly possible that the US were just testing Iran. They could of course also have been looking for a reason for a war that the people of the US will accept in sufficient numbers.
Yeah we're the ones chanting "death to iran", moving missiles into range of Israel, and funding global terrorism.
Yeah what we should do instead is let leftists fund Iran's nuclear weapon development like they did in North Korea. Then everything would be fine if we paid them $150 billion every year or so to not kill us.
People have to understand this in light of Trump's narcissism. When narcissists get embarrassed, it causes "narcissistic injury" and they really, really don't like it. They obsess over it and have to "get back" at the person. We've seen this over and over with Trump and his petty feuds with people. Now that Iran has inflicted narcissistic injury on Trump, he'll want some payback.
It seems clear as mud on rules concerning the Strait of Hormuz. However, "innocent passage" seems to govern most grey areas. In this case, innocent passage cannot be claimed with a spy drone. Interesting that, at this point, neither Iran nor the US have shown any recovered wreckage of the plane which, btw, is not a small plane at all. Somebody has pieces of this thing. Edit: https://www.asil.org/insights/volum...trait-hormuz-and-iran’s-threats-block-passage
Untrue. Obama's policies prolonged a very slow recovery . Most of his policies including Obamacare prevented economic growth. The economy was bad under bush because of liberal policies the most tragic of which was the loan policies banks had to follow. Loaning too much to people who couldn't afford it.
Yeah, I was surprised by how big that thing is (was). But if it was shot down over the ocean, there may be nothing left. Do they have "black boxes"?
