LOL... some poster referred to "Dr." Peter Navarro as being a prime backer of Trump policy on the virus...

After that, I stopped reading when a Con poster uses the word Doctor on here....

The reason for the lockdown, hence reducing deaths in the first wave, is the higher chance of an antiviral arriving before the second wave

Actually, it poses a danger to everyone. It kills even young and middle aged people, even when they don't have underlying conditions. Then there is the problem of people spreading it without knowing that they have it, leading to a lot more infections, hospitalizations and deaths.

Trump is dangerously stupid as long as he is in a position of authority and this is going on.

I didn't say anything when 60,000 people died from the flu last year. And neither did you.

So why would I react any differently to these deaths? Is it more tragic when someone dies from COVID?

Trump's natural stupidity has become a public health hazard because he opposes necessary measures to contain the spread of this disease, just as he did in the early months when he chose to ignore it completely and attack the Democrats and the media for even talking about it.

Qualify 'young' because to most people the definition of a young age is different. To a 50 year old man, a 30 year old is young. To a 30 year old, an 18 year old man is young. Of course age is a huge factor in fatalities, but it's been seen in Italy and in the US that gender is a factor since more males are dying from Covid-19 than females. In the UK and Wales, male mortality rates from coronavirus are nearly twice the death rate of women.

    https://www.statnews.com/2020/03/18...of-risk-confirms-young-adults-not-invincible/

But of the 144 cases in people 85 and older, 31% to 71% were hospitalized and 6.3% to 29% needed intensive care. The death rate in that age group was 10% to 27%.

In contrast, among people 20 to 44, 14% to 21% of 705 cases were admitted to hospitals and 2% to 4% to ICUs; 0.1% to 0.2% died.

The rates for middle-aged people fell between these extremes, while 29% to 44% of patients 65 to 74 were hospitalized and 8% to 19% needed intensive care; 2.7% to 4.9% in this age group died.

Approximately 49 million people in the U.S. are 65 or older.

This is nothing but a pile of lies.

I already posted CDC data showing that 90% of deaths attributed to COVID occur in those 55 or older.

And the vast majority of those deaths occurred in people with preexisting health problems, like obesity, diabetes, COPD, cancer, etc.

There isn't a shred of evidence supporting your contention that the virus is a danger to everyone. And the number of young and healthy people who have died from COVID is exceedingly small. Infinitesimal.

Trump is often wrong, and often stupid, but he is not wrong about this. It's time to pursue a different strategy.

The reason for the lockdown is to cement governmental and corporate power over a sheepish population. The virus is just the excuse.

The expected death rate for Covid19 in the State of Oregon is 171 individuals. The average death rate for the flu in Oregon is 570 per year. Are you advocating wrecking one's economy for something that is less than one-third as deadly as the flu? Please explain why that is a good idea. States that have no lockdown orders are having a lower death rate than those states that have locked down. Is the lockdown even worth the wreckage of one's economy? It is open for debate. One fact that I hope no one can dispute is that given the choice between a few deaths versus a few deaths plus a wrecked economy, the better choice is a few deaths without the wrecked economy. Of course, the egregious extension of government power should be a concern to everyone who values freedom.

Give us examples of what he has done to oppose necessary measures. He has never completely ignored it. He was imposing travel bans against China when Nancy was encouraging public gatherings.

The total number of deaths attributed to COVID in the USA is about 34,000 right now.

I already posted CDC data showing that 90% of COVID deaths occur in people 55 or older.

That means about 3,400 COVID deaths occurred in relative "young" people.

That's approximately 0.001% of the population.

To claim that many or lots of young people are dying from COVID is a demonstrable lie.

Hey look, we're over halfway to 60,000 in less than 3 months even though we've been on "lock down". Are you one of those nutjobs who still thinks cv19 is no (or marginally) more deadly than flu?

I completely agree with the notion that the government and larger corporations are the only powers which are going to benefir from a prolonged shutdown. Smaller businesses will not survive the shutdown if it goes on much longer, even if they manage to navigate the Byzantine rules and procedures to secure a stimulus loan. The net result of this shutdown is a huge increase in market share controlled by a few very large corporations. A mom and pop restaurant can barely survive a shutdown of a few days. McDonald's can survive six months of shutdown and make it back in a year because of increased market share. And why would we voluntarily give the powerful even more power for something one-third as deadly as the common flu? It makes little sense to me.

Is this dishonest or a real attempt at logic? Who the ***k cares what % of the population the "young" deaths constitute? How many "young" people have dies once they contracted the disease? That's the question, detective.
