Unless we get a handle on the virus, a lot of people aren't going to leave their home to spend money.

How are you going to convince enough people to agree with you if COVID-19 new cases are increasing?
Why the cheap shot when the huge majority of people out marching are peaceful?

You should wear a mask in public to protect others in case you become infected.

Many states have weak or nonexistent teachers' unions. Why aren't those states promoting vouchers in a big way?

really depends on the area, Trump went to some really good schools, but sometimes it's just hard to teach rich kids, no mater how much is spent on them

agree, but businesses can refuse to let you in if you don't wear one, so best to at least have one on hand - though if a business was smart, they would hand them out to those that do not have one, maybe one with their logo on it

yes, criminals are more likely to kill you than a police officer.... that doesn't mean we lower that standards on police officers

all lives mater, bad cops are a threat to all lives

If most of the protestors were rioters, our cities would be smoking ruins.

~ The social distancing shamers have themselves been shamed. It serves them right ! They should be forced to stay 6 feet away from the rest of us from now on .

What I have noticed is the 100's of thousands of crazed lefties marching on the streets in close quarters, spreading their noxious exhalents every where they go. Have you noticed that too, or are you just ignoring it because it doesn't work politically for you?

British Columbia (5m people) has much smaller numbers (2,669 total cases, 167 deaths, 15 cases in hospital, 4 cases in ICU) and never had a stay-at-home order. They're poised to enter Stage 3 which only forbids large crowd events and modifies some businesses.

    It's not Sweden or lockdown.

most on the left were wearing masks, unlike the protestors on the right - but agree, those on both sides of the isle that protested without them risk increasing the spread

Remember this picture from when Republicans protested the Trump shutdown

So should areas with little or no mask use have at least 6 times more cases per capita than areas where everyone wears a mask? I’m assuming you’re numbers are correct for sake of argument and I’m factoring out the “expected” since you didn’t quantify that.

depends, if Trump got it wrong and the virus was here late last year, many states may already have a degree of herd immunity, we may not of even needed the Trump shutdown in some States

when Trump did not want to test because he thinks higher numbers would make him look bad, you miss out on important information like that as it throws the models off

So a few dozen on the right protesting vocally justifies 100's of thousands on the left looting, rioting, and assaulting? You need to learn how to weigh the scale.

Oh, and by the way, I could care less if anyone wears a mask or doesn't wear a mask. Though we'd all be better off without them. Unless you're working in a health care facility, you don't need them.

    I started this discussion.

    Several points to consider:
    • Tracing can determine where clusters start, so we can get a pretty idea good of who is responsible for new infections. Is opening too soon responsible for some increase? How about the protests?
    • The protests continue. We don't know when they'll end and any negative impact they might have will end.
    • Increased transmission could cause some states to reverse the opening up process.

I’m not sure what Trump has to do with whether the virus was here last year or not. I do believe herd immunity is much greater than some think. I know a young woman who lost her ability to taste, so was tested. She was positive. Her husband and child never developed any symptoms so didn’t go get tested. They both almost certainly were infected. So for one confirmed stat we have three with antibodies. I don’t see why that wouldn’t be happening all over the country.
Is that assumption on your part or is that documented? Regardless, the volume of tests would be irrelevant because my question involves percentages, not testing volume. As long as two areas (mask wearing and non wearing) are testing at similar rates and are similar in population density, my question could be easily answered. Wouldn’t matter if testing rates were high enough to suit anyone or not.

The lockdowns are about saving lives, the protests against the lockdowns, per the vast majority of those protesting, are about haircuts.
Don't be mad at me that the protesters don't share/ didn't articulate your views about the economy.

rioters and looters are not the protestors... different crowd, they are like the bad cops, they should be arrested and punished when caught

The line between the rioters, looters, and "protestors" is a pretty thin one. The rioters and looters doing the dirty deeds, and the "protestors" creating the environment for doing so.

Sort of like the ground troops supporting the front lines.
