Then you have selective hearing. Are there any republicans running on a solution to address unsolved crime? If so, great. It is a big problem - I'm not disputing that - but its a dem problem?
Really? Who? Maybe it's because your "peaceful protesters" are saying this. If they don't want police dismantled/defunded/disbanded, why are they saying they do? Maybe the uneducated left has a communication problem and find it difficult to communicate what they really mean? Or maybe you yourself are not understanding them? The system isn't broken. There are a few rare bad apples in policing, just as there are in any occupation. Look at the statistics. This is not genocide and it is not systematic. See above.
A system that continually supports/defends those few bad apples is a broken system. Already we are seeing - thanks to protests - policy changes within the police ranks that will hold other officers accountable if they do nothing when witnessing bad police practices.
I think, perhaps, you are choosing to have that perception. I have read and heard nothing that intimates police=bad, criminals=good. Could you provide some credible links that show Democrats suggesting that criminals are good? Criminality is a root of the problem, absolutely. But so is bad policing practices. So why aren't people asking for changes to those bad practices?
What bad practices? Their training is what it should be. Sure, occasionally some cops break the rules, but the training they receive now is what it should be.
So there should be no policies regarding police activity? You want them abolished? No laws they must follow?
I suggest you read this article:https://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2014/12/police-gun-shooting-training-ferguson/383681/ It outlines officer training and how they are trained to be fearful of potential dangers and protective of their own lives. Which makes a huge amount of sense. But, from the article, we learn that "officers were assaulted in about 0.09 percent of all interactions, were injured in some way in 0.02 percent of interactions, and were feloniously killed in 0.00008 percent of interactions. Adapting officer training to these statistics doesn’t minimize the very real risks that officers face, but it does help put those risks in perspective. Officers should be trained to keep that perspective in mind as they go about their jobs."
Establishing and implementing sound policy is an essential part of equipping police officers. Good policies help police officers make the best possible decisions in critical situations. They establish expectations for professional, ethical conduct. Policies make sure law enforcement agencies comply with laws, industry standards, and case law. And they promote police accountability, which helps police departments build trust in the communities they serve. https://www.powerdms.com/blog/crucial-law-enforcement-policies/ I realize this is a blog, but surely I'm not the only one who believes that there should be policies in place to govern the protection and assistance within a community.
I've been in their shoes, in very similar situations. It only takes one bad situation, and that cop doesn't go home. They have to always be vigilant and treat every situation like it will involve violence. They never know what state of mind the people they dal with will be in
I understand that. And it must take a very unique individual who will put themselves in harm's way to protect society. But we are addressing their training. As stated in the article - the statistics of police being harmed in altercations in less than 1%, yet they are trained to treat every situation as though it could kill them. Perhaps if they trained the statistics in balance with the risk we wouldn't see as many cop related shootings/deaths.
Just remove all the cops from the black communities & let them have a free for all. BLM & Antifa can help them out. Good Luck !
Who do you think will suffer the most from resignations and all these no shoot regulations? Do you think an officer is going into a dangerous situation? Who does that hurt? Where are the most dangerous situations, inner cities are about to get a lot worse so all we'll here next is cops don't care about black lives in inner cities because they won't come save them from criminals.
And I would bet that those resigning are doing so so because they will STILL RECEIVE their over generous pensions unmatched by any company in corporate America. And they only have to put in a minimal number of years to receive it. Tell your children to get a government job Federal, State, Local or municipal the benefits are unmatched anywhere in private corporate America.
I'm not suggesting that cops need to be abolished. Not at all. But I do think that retraining is necessary. Instead of training them to be in fear for their lives as they go into each situation, they should go in understanding the actual statistics. They shouldn't see every person as their potential murderer - but that's how their training starts. That's wrong, in my view.
Good riddance. These cops think they must get respect. It's the other way around. Cops must respect the people. The people pay their wages. The people are there to be protected and served by them cops. Them cops are civil servants, who are employed by only needing a freaking high school diploma and some weeks of training.
The cops have been doing to that for ages against the black community. First it was legal due to the Jim Crow era. Than they made the case of... lets not have apartheid but do racist profiling instead. "Massive" difference. The system is simply rotten.
This will turn out badly. Stick around and watch crime increase as officers will turn away rather than put themselves at risk of phony charges. I have a lot of contact with cops and the general consensus is, avoid arrests and look away.
Seriously? Cops will fight back against being held accountable? And you don't think that's a problem? That it isn't indicative of a broken system? Sheesh - I honestly can't imagine where you would draw a line in the sand...
Typical democrat propaganda. So I guess you think lawlessness will be a good thing. The problem is we may be losing the best and left with the bad apples. I doubt many will want to be cops now. The democrats hate has taken care of that. What we have seen is democrats love criminals and hate law enforcement
The real problem is democrat leadership that is not vetting their employees. Chain should have been fired years ago. The democrat leadership protected even though their were many complaints against him
