Most violence from drugs are from the dealers, gangs, cartels etc etc. Most people that take the drugs tend to not get violent. There are of course exceptions to every rule and it highly depends on the drug being taken. But losing ones life saving can cause one to be depressed to the point of killing themselves so I'd say its kind of even on that front.
yes, that is like saying teachers accused of raping students should remain teachers while the investigation continues treat them like anyone else accused of a crime... if there is video of them murdering someone, deny bail
actually it is getting better, the war on pot is starting to be seen as the bad law it is prohibition only supports crime and gangs, and makes criminals of those that do not abuse.... same as alcohol
No because we expect police officers to confront violent situations we expect no one else to and therefore they must be treated differently, held to a lower standard and given the benefit of the doubt where no one else is. Plus criminals make unfounded allegations about them all the time, look at the recent case where all the family and witnesses were whining about some scumbag being shot whilst sleeping in his car when it was revealed he actually had a gun and was committing suicide by cop? When did you last see video of the police murdering anyone? Why would you deny them bail, surely the other way around?
Possibly, we certainly lost the war on drugs long ago but where does it end? Legalise crack? Meth? Heroin?
You realize that heroin has been legalized for quite a while with the name fentanyl, oxycodone, hydrocodone, codeine, morphine, and many others. Pot is way less harmful yet has been artificially made worse by stupid law makers and greedy pharmaceutical companies.
legalize all natural drugs, arrest people for committing crime on drugs - just like with alcohol making them illegal has not made them any harder to get for those that what them
The point was that discriminating an entire group is not discriminating an individual who clearly belongs to that group. But of course you are doing exactly that.
And so what's the problem? Does BLM chant "Defund Derek Chauvin" or do they chant "Defund the Police"? It's entirely to separate the two if you choose to do so but you can't fix larger "group" problems unless you can acknowledge that there is a group problem. It doesn't even have to be a problem. Groups of people act in certain ways and we call that culture. You absolutely can discriminate a culture from skin color if you want to.
The root of the problem is bad law. Police just happen to be the errand boys -and girls - for the State. Not sure where you are getting the "criminals are good" message" - sounds a bit ridiculous sans the anarchists which are few.
If a cop wants to resign because BLM is protesting their behavior then let them resign and good riddance to them. Replace them with more intelligent and well balanced people and maybe we can purge the police forces of all these bad apples. I have no sympathy for any cop who thinks they have the unfettered right to kill and abuse citizens without consequences.
When was the last time a thug cop had to fork over his own money to settle a lawsuit for his criminal actions? The money comes from the city taxpayers.
Politicians of both flavors have been addressing this topic for decades, its a very complex issue. I have a good idea for starters, abolish the war on drugs now.
I think the answer is yes, make them legal then provide drug treatment help for those that need it. No one should be in jail for being high. Hell, if every person alive that took drugs had been arrested and convicted, half the adult population of America would be in jail.
It comes from their employers who are responsible for properly training them. You will see more ICAT trying or descalation training. This will be done in a way to have police keep their cool and not react on emotions
