Thanks for sharing. Sorry that they both died.

Sounds like they had no visible health issues... I wonder if they were immune compromised in some other way (poor diet, weren't in good cardiovascular shape, how often they'd get bad symptoms from other illnesses, etc.) Did they smoke/drink? No underlying conditions?

    Oh jeeze... :( That's rough. :(

Hope you have a solid support system to help you cope with all of that craziness. My thoughts/prayers are with you.

Thanks for sharing. Too bad there's no health info on these people (obviously one isn't going to pry into co-worker's personal matters beyond what they willingly share), as my interest lies in whether the people dying with covid in their systems happen to be immune compromised in some way or died of something else but just happened to have covid in their system at the time.

That's my take on it. I am not particularly fond of my next door neighbors so I'm not privy to information about their recovery. I only know they had it because the Health Department slapped the notification on their door (which they didn't heed). I'm assuming they both are still alive. They keep up enough late night racket.

Ahhhh, gotcha. I wouldn't be very fond of that sort of behavior either.

I believe she tested positive about 5 weeks ago. As of last week when I talked to her in laws she did have her sense of taste back. I didn’t think to ask how long that symptom lasted.

I really don’t know alcohol consumption specifics, just that she’s part of a demographic that includes a “bit” of beer in almost all social gatherings. And social gatherings that time of year are brandings which are essential business so continued uninterrupted. :)

They think she was exposed at work, most likely by someone who contracted it at the local Tyson beef plant.

    Appreciate it.

Yes I have a little family left like kids grandkids and great grandkids. But theenough rest are all gone.. I am an old man these days. One foot in the grave and the other one on a banana peel.

But I lived long enough to see this country go bat poop crazy.. But also grateful I don't know any crazy people personally.

None that I know of. Neither got sick generally and both had healthy diets. Not sure about the aunt but she survived it.

I know numerous people that have had it.

One died. early 70s and otherwise in great health

One got it bad. Early 50s. No heath issues. Fought it for 6 weeks.Ended up with pulmonary embolisms, a stroke...various blod clot issues. Survived..barely...recovering

Several friends had parents die for it

Numerous others ranging from early 20s to 50s. One had a "bad flu". All the others said it kicked their ass. Sickest they had EVER been. Some of the younger ones said even though it only lasted 3-5 days it scared the crap out of them

This is cool to talk about.

However, acutal policy decisions need to be based on something besides a tiny number of stories, none of which can be verified.

That's good that it came back.

Haha, got it. She's probably okay there. :)

    That's possible.

I’d rather die than lose my sense of taste permanently. :)

Is someone setting policy based on PF thread content? That’s terrifying. :)

Okay. Sounds like in those two cases that seemingly healthy individuals succumbed to it.

I started this thread with the intent to see just how many examples such as this that there would be ("seemingly healthy" people, no underlying conditions, but ended up dying).

You can't get a proper dataset just by asking on this forums. Way too small of a population sample.

Thanks for sharing. Interesting... No visible health issues, yet one died, one had a very rough time, others had "quite bad flus".

The problem with "underlying conditions" is that we have no idea how long a person might live with underlying conditions had not they caught Covid-19.

My father was born with serious lung problems. The doctors said he probably wouldn't make it out of childhood. Then said he wouldn't make it out of his teens. After several hospital stays, they said he wouldn't make it out of his twenties. Of course during that time he graduated from medical school and started a practice and a family. Several more hospitals stays later, the doctors said he was a bit of a miracle. After a 35 year successful medical practice, he retired after another hospital stay and a collapsed lung. The doctors thought at 65, that was about all his body could take ...

So when he passed away at 85 years old, after 20 more years of hunting, fishing and building his own ranch house ...

But if he had caught Covid at any time during those 85 years, he would have been toast.

So you can rationalize your thought process on Covid - but things tend to fall apart when you apply it to real, individual people.

Indeed. One intention of this thread was to bring it down to a more "personal" level and to hear more detailed accounts than the typical media scare tactics of "infections and deaths galore!" and "covid is definitely causing all these deaths"... Just interested in some personal accounts.

Agreed. I definitely wouldn't base policy decisions off of some postings on politicalforum.com haha

Well... if you're going to base policy off of internet posts, better Politicalforum than Twitter or Facebook at least...

Your inquiry adds real people some of us knew. Whereas stats are such dry things. And it happens to others not to the people you know.

That's not my intention for this thread. A statistical analysis has very strict requirements which cannot be met by asking a few questions over an internet forum.

I'm just interested in some personal accounts which dig deeper than the media's "so many infections, so many deaths" and "infections have doubled, tripled..., death CAUSED BY covid" and other similar hype.
