Didn't read the article. Got it.

To be fair Moi went off topic anyways. The OP wasn't about transgenders in the Olympics.

That’s true, I know guys who can function with no problems after smoking. I can’t do anything but operate a tv remote, but some can focus better and perform.

Hopefully, that situation won't be around much longer.

I suppose it could be viewed as performance enhancing if it removes anxiety and places one in a relaxed state.

Getting yourself out of your own way is part of the mental aspect of performance.

Unfortunate for her but it could lead the games to reevaluate the validity of it’s stance.

IMO Sports in general should re-examine bans on chemical agents that enhance the healing process for athletes.

This is of no relevance to the ban of this athlete.

This is a fine discussion to have but realize, it has no place in this case.

Care to elaborate, or is that the extent of your vocabulary?

I do it all the time. Once a week or so, load up a bowl for a wake and bake, jump on my bicycle, and head to the pool. But then I grew up competing and have been swimming all my life, with a good steady pace, I can swim all day long, although I am mostly a sprinter at heart.

As I was watching the Olympic trials on YouTube, these little videos kept popping up in the feed. Instructional videos telling people how to run this or that race or to compete in this or that event. There was a large number of videos explaining strategies for running the 400. It was kind of entertaining. It reminded me of my high school track days when there was one fellow discussing his strategy for running the 400. I remember my coach making a comment about the fact that the 400 was a sprint, not a distance race. The 400 was always my favorite event to run. That and the mile relay. The way one wins the 400 is to come out hard and fast and don't let up till the end. Splits of top 400 competitors show that is what they all do.

Maybe the anti-marihauna laws are wrong and have always been wrong and our various government entities have been committing crimes against its own citizens. They don't ban people for drinking alcohol. In fact the beer industry thrives on spectator sports. Is it any wonder that the Colorado Rockies play at Coors Field where they sell lots and lots of beer to the spectators.

Sure, 40+ years of sometimes driving after having consumed marihuana and no accidents, no tickets. Unlike by brother who really likes beer, and has crashed his cars numerous times.

She has already turned professional and Nike, her sponsor, is still backing her.

Sports in Oregon used to be rather lame. Then Phil Knight, the founder of Nike got an itch, decided that Oregon should be an athletic powerhouse. All over Oregon, especially in the the Portland Metro area, public tennis and basketball courts are surfaced with a nice rubberized material that comes from Nike. Portland just may have some of the best public basketball courts in the country. Many are even covered, so that one can still play in the rain.

    https://parksoftheworld.wordpress.c...d-class-basketball-courts-of-portland-oregon/

Knight put up something like a half a billion dollars to turn the University of Oregon's athletic department into one of the top in the country. The Hayward Field at which the Olympic trails were held in Eugene Oregon is perhaps the premier such facility in the world.

Just so I make sure I understand this....

Turning your back, literally, and disrespecting America on the world stage while supposedly representing America for the Olympics = OK

Being an actual man and whooping everyone in the Olympic female weightlifting competition = OK

Smoking weed that has zero bearing on your physical performance whatsoever = Ban

Society has become hilariously ridiculous at this point. We literally live in a clown world right now and the sad/hilarious part about all of this is the fact that there are actual adult human beings who are somehow functioning members of society making these decisions.

    And you believe her?

Everyone sooner or later in life cope with the "unexpected". Hardly anyone smoke dope to cope with it.

Most performance-bent athletes smoke performance enhancing dope. Or swallow it, or shoot it.

There's literally nothing in the article discussion the Olympic Committee's policy on transgender athletes. Of course there's a very easy way for you to prove me wrong if there is....

Then petition to get the rule changed as of now it is the RULE. How fair is it to other athletes who did NOT smoke pot even though they may have wanted to do so too to allow her because she is soooooo good at running?

I am all for legalized marijuana and do not think that it should preclude one from competing.

With that being said, that excuse is unmitigated BS.

Odd you think her career is ruined. See, Kobe Bryant, Ray Lewis, Michael Phelps, Michael Vick, to name some. Richardson will be just fine.

For christ's sake! These are freaking GAMES!

Yes, I get how hard athletes work to get there, but in the end, it's still a game. The promise of the Olympics is to foster detente, to ease the political tensions between nations, but the dark side is when people lose sight of that and become all militant about it. The IOC is as much a political tool as is everything else. Some people project their own agendas onto these athletes and the games way too much.

I smoke weed every day. If however I were an international level sprinter and the Olympic games were coming, I would abstain for whatever length of time was necessary. While the rule may be stupid, she still has no one to blame but herself.

I'm not arguing that. She gave a reason why she smoked. Did they investigate it? As I mentioned earlier, there was a similar incident that occurred in 1998, but they discovered that the athlete had smoked after winning the gold, they stripped him of it, but later recanted and gave it back to him.

But it's over, she's not going to compete.

The issue really comes down to whether the IOC needs to update its list of banned drugs, and to my thinking, it certainly does. If athletes can still drink alcohol in their off time, why can't they smoke weed?
