A public university in Ohio will pay $400,000 in damages and attorney fees after punishing a professor for declining a male student's demand to be referred to as a female.

Nick Meriwether, a philosophy professor at Shawnee State University, responded to a male student's question during a January 2018 political philosophy class by saying "Yes, sir." When the class ended, the student identified to the professor as transgender, and demanded to be referred to as a woman in the future, along with "feminine titles and pronouns," according to the Alliance Defending Freedom, which represented the professor in court. Doing so, Meriwether maintained, would have violated his convictions as a Christian.

Meriwether didn't agree to the student's request, and court documents state that the student became belligerent and told the professor that he would be fired...

I don't know why people get to dictate what other people say? I tell these people every time I encounter them you don't have pronouns society has pronounced to describe you and if you want to be described as some pink and purple unicorn with 15 horns then you have to look like that.

If you're 6 ft 7 I have a full beard you're not a man you're not a she you're not a her and you never will be.

 

They aren't real transgender people they're transtrenders. They'll put on makeup maybe change to what kind of clothes they wear or not wear makeup and then they say their opposite sex demand everyone refer to them that way the thing to do is deny that.

Public schools should not force their employees to use preferred pronouns. Public schools should not fire their employees for not using preferred pronouns.

Employees who are fired unjustly should not be given taxpayer money.

People seem to be very stupid these days. Taxpayer money is seen as the automatic go-to to right any wrong.

There has got to be another way to right these wrongs and appropriately punish the ones responsible.

It seems like the whole world is going insane, and people are too caught up in the insanity to realize that things they support are actually just part of the insanity.

If I were supreme dictator I would end all these frivolous lawsuits immediately and end the payouts of money. Payouts of money should not be used to "right" all injustices.

The ones responsible for the injustice should be reprimanded, and their misdeeds recorded in their personal records, for review if people are considering firing them later for another misdeed.

Know what's respectful? Not threatening and/or demanding other people that you don't know on a personal level call you something that they don't wish to call you.

This student has the right to pretend to be a woman, or pretend to be a unicorn, or whatever they want.

What the student doesn't have is the right to make anyone else agree with them.

 

I'd suggest damages should come personally from the individual(s) that violated this man's rights.

I don't think it's frivolous in this case, when you actually lose your job because some 20 year old demanded you affirm and support their mental problems.

I would agree. However there is a HUGE difference between "******" and calling a biological male "he" or "him".

 

I can do what I damn well I want within the law and you can't tell me any otherwise.
