The problem is DeSantis doesn't have the authority to do that and that's the issue here. The reason they are flying/bussing them around the country is because they aren't legally allowed to deport them and the Federal government refuses to provide the necessary resources to secure the border. So since the Federal policy requires they must be allowed to remain in the country then these Governors are playing the only hand they really have now. Fine if they must be allowed to stay and we can't deport them without Federal authority and it's our States they cross into then we will ship them around the country for other States to deal with. Authorize State level government and law enforcement to deport people and best believe those busses and planes would be headed south on a daily basis. But since that won't happen those busses and planes are sent north instead.
The asylum applications are processed in States. Texas rejects about 80% of them while NY approves 70%. After the application is rejected, they ARE deported. However, this stunt of sending them to States which are going to approve the applications pretty much guarantees they will stay in US for life. So, if you want them out, the worst thing you can do is send them to NY or MA to have their applications rubber stamped, because after that they become permanent residents who are permitted to work and collect welfare. If they think this is their only hand, then they are idiots and need to be replaced. Deporting asylum seekers is illegal, but YOU CAN expedite their applications and reject it, and then they will be depeorted. Unfortunately this kind of thing will only encourage more illegal immigration because now they think that all they need to do is make it to Texas or Florida, and then those States will transport them for free to States where their applications will be auto-approved and they become legal permanent residents of the US. They ,must be laughing their heads off, and sure enough some are already thanking DeSantis for the free ride.
No kidding? I learned something today. I was under the assumption that States couldn't deport asylum seekers without Federal authority. I thought they were under the same policy as illegal immigrants. In that case I'm with you, this was stupid. Their applications should have been expedited and every single person without a LEGITIMATE asylum claim boarded on the same airplane and flown directly back to Venezuela.
DeSantis has no power to expedite asylum applications, Biden does. I don't think people in red states hate immigrants (I'm not accusing you of saying this) they just want immigrants to come legally and be vetted.
Yeah, not really. All these empathetic governors, mayor's, and citizens talking about sanctuary and supporting these immigrants ENCOURAGES more to come. And when they do, these same people want somebody else to address the problem. Not in their back yard. Typical double speak hypocrisy.
Well I mean, it's 50 people - and apparently those rich diversity-promoting Lefties own something like 100,000 empty beds on the island. I'm pretty sure they'll be just fine, given that. It's not like those Lefties are so outrageously racist that they'd do something like immediately send in the military to escort the brown people off their ultra-white island ....
How do these brown people 'cause problems' for the rich white people? Are they discolouring that ultra white island?
States do not have that authority... in either direction. Didn't your history teachers teach you about the US Constitution?
Asylum Offices and Immigration courts are ran locally, and for the sake of comparison, the Houston courts reject 80% of the applications, while NY approves 70%. Rejected applicants are deported by the USCIS. So, yea, there are big differences, and these guys applications are likely to get rubber stamped especially when now that they have been made pawns in silly political stunts. Seeking asylum is a legal way. States can't deport asylum seekers, but they are deported by USCIS if their application is rejected. As I said, it depends where the application is processed, like in Houston, they reject 80% while in NY, they approve 70%. Your claim is that Biden wants them here, so why hasn't he approved all the applications? Why are Asylum Offices and Immigration courts in Texas rejecting 80% of the claims is Biden is in full control of them? You should test your claims to see if there is a contradiction.
Isn't DeSantis targeting that island because of Obama? Does he look ultra white to you? That place is tiny, with population about half of Key West, which is also a tiny island. Cape Code is 10 miles away and has facilities for them, so it was an easy fix to a simple problem.
The immigration court in New York is dealing with a different population of asylum seekers than the courts in Texas. So it's not surprising that the outcomes of the cases are different. So many people who have no idea how anything works.
How are they different? Most of them are from Latin America. Abbott thinks he is being clever, but he is actually doing them a favor by sending them to a place where their application is going to get rubber stamped.
New York deals with a much higher percentage of people from other places (China and Africa for example) seeking asylum than you get closer to the border. The majority of people coming from Central American seeking asylum are going to be denied no matter where they appear in court. Their situation usually doesn't meet the requirements to qualify for asylum. Most of the cases dealing with people from other parts of the world are approved.
Nice response. Typical liberal... can't debate their perspectives foe **** so they cut and run. Doesn't it get exhausting debating an agenda daily you know is flawed?
They are illegal aliens who neither tried to enter as legal aliens or as legal asylum seekers. Why do you try to claim someone who enters the country illegally is anything else?
I'm asking why the residents of the island would find it a problem to have 50 brown peasants arrive at their sanctuary. After all, most residents are Democrats, so must be all about that diversity and such, right? And it can't be too tiny an island if there are thousands of empty beds there at any given moment.
He's not being clever, he's being kind. He's sending them to places of welcome. Declared Sanctuaries.
Maybe off-topic but here's another thread: Immigration & the Hypocrisy of Liberals when it comes to their cities
tan? terracotta? mocha? olive? Irrespective of what you choose to call it, we know - having been emphatically assured by our Progressive friends - that any rejection of illegals is necessarily racism. It's all about that skin tone, always. So we're told.
According to what, or who? Then what's the point of shipping them around the country like cattle? Seems like a total waste of taxpayer money. It sounds like you think (or have been told) the residents held a public voter over the matter. LOL. The State took them to a suitable facility 10 miles away. Its tiny, with population about half the size of Key West, which is also tiny. Makes you wonder what the hell is going on inside DeSantis head. He must have sat down to think about which place in US would be the least suitable to handle them, and he came up with that island. He is taking them to places which will rubber stamp their asylum applications, so in the end they will probably thank him, and then they'll move back to Texas as legal permanent residents. PS The 'sanctuary city' aspect here is irrelevant since these people are legal asylum seekers.
Well that would be weird .. what with all those diversity-loving Progressive multi millionaires who own empty houses on that 'tiny' island. Naturally, people so vocal about their support of illegals would offer those empty homes immediately, and the State would never need to be involved. Folk who avow their allegience to diversity publically and politically, would never want to see the new folk kidnapped by State people traffickers, and taken off the island to a 'facility'. That's why it's the perfect place. They claim to be welcoming and compassionate, and there are lots of empty houses. Sheeeure ... 'asylum seekers'. When the whole world comes, just call them that.
