When energy problems are caused by people acting on bad ideas, it is a valuable public service to identify those problems and show how those ideas caused them.
While certainly absolutely true, in this day and age bad ideas are everywhere and they don't ever seem to end. So it's better on your personal mental health to simply celebrate the inevitable self destruction of stupid ideas. I've been involved directly in these issues for decades. Celebrating their demise and then ignoring them helps me sleep better at night. This too shall pass.
India’s Uncompromising Commitment to Coal Guest Blogger In Asia, the need for sustained economic growth outweighs fanciful visions of a “carbon-free” utopia, making coal the obvious choice for at least several decades. . . .
I guess Greenwashing works both ways? I love the way some folks act as if Electricity is so much 'greener' than natural gas, when natural gas is the greatest single feedstock of electrical production. An electric car is essentially an Natural Gas powered car only with more intermediate steps, a greater risk of fire and components that are disposal nightmares. #JOURNALISM: Greenwashing the News for Fun and Profit. It's all about the Benjamins. 'If a prominent media outlet takes money from liberal philanthropies to report on “climate change,” and then attributes all weather-related problems to that climate change, and never fact-checks how normal these weather phenomena actually are, what would you call that? Is it not the definition of corruption?' I call it paid propaganda in service of the Left. 'You’d also call it the new normal for the Associated Press – and several other outlets, all of which take funding from donors with agendas. Not surprisingly, they faithfully ascribe to “climate change” all manner of occurrence. In fact, it turns out that there are plenty of grants to go round if a media company wants to write about the climate.' Attributed everything to Climate Change and these 'news' outlets are printing money. 'Every institution has been corrupted. Some grudgingly, some joyfully.'
Nuclear energy creation does not emit greenhouse gasses to the extent that fossil fuel does. Electricity is only as free of greenhouse gas emissions as the methods of producing it. Thus comparing natural gas to electricity doesn't make any sense. A large percent of our electricity is produced by burning natural gas. The comparisons that are important are the comparisons in ways to make electricity.
We have hydro at Ohatchee. The problem is during dry spells. With 3 States fighting for the same water we run low on water sometimes.
Yes. There are definitely problems with hydroelectric in various locations. In WA, one of the problems is that dams impact the important fisheries industry, as salmon and some other species breed in small shallow fresh water streams while spending most time in the ocean. Still, 2/3 of WA electricity is from dams, helping WA have one of the lowest costs of electricity. There are probably 10 other states that have electricity prices about that low.
No, that's just nonsense. It IS true that dams cover land owned by people not interested in having their property condemned, change water flow, add risk, seriously impact fisheries businesses, and other such issues. Claiming that is all "environmentalism" is just flat out nonsense. And, when have you EVER considered that resisting property condemnation by government is "environmentalism"?
Good to hear, because we could use a lot more water projects. They provide flood control, water storage, hydroelectric and recreation. It's a win/win/win/win. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com › opinion › california-water-projects-remain-stalled-even-though-voters-approved-money-for-them-in-2014 California water projects remain stalled even though voters approved ... Aug 31, 2021The culprit is not climate change, but the state government's lack of urgency in overcoming environmentalists' objections and getting them done. The Sites Reservoir could be an example of necessity...
I live in CA. That is IGNORANT PARTISAN CRAP. You should KNOW that!! You're quoting the Examiner, for crap's sake. The Sites Reservoir is underway. Please notify your sources. Plus, it required serious thought as it will at times divert 60% of the Sacramento River, a major river of northern CA, running nearly 500 miles.. There are very real economic and environmental impacts. The government is changing people's property, businesses and lives by reducing flow, condemning that land, etc. It's needed, but YOU are blowing off the ramifications of this government action and that is EXACTLY what you accuse the left wing of doing.

When you here "environment" I think you just turn off. CA saved $17B - and YOU are offended?? Did you even read your cites?
The environazi folks won't allow it. It hurts the fishes you see. And even though fish adapt, it isn't sufficient for the environazi crowd because, they said so... I think it is about a juvenile as that.
I think you missed the point. CA didn't actually save the money, first they wasted a lot of that, and then, they respond it on a different set of priorities..... But hey, you do you... LOL
'Saved" $17B my donkey. The State is burning 5,000,000 acres of timber every year, do you think that has no value? It's not uncommon for 50 people or more to burn to death in a fire, cars destroyed, homes destroyed, wildlife destroyed, more damage in the winter mudslides that occur in the burned out areas. Electric is horrifically expensive, the fires cloud the solar panels which leaves the grid staggering with rolling blackouts, all while 1/2 the rainfall each year just runs out to the ocean, no longer any good to the now perpetually parched state. CA needs to complete the California Water Project designed and passed by Governor Edmund Brown (Gov Jerry Brown's Father) in the late 50's a hundred year plan that was supposed to be added to as the state grew, but was shut down by environmentalists in the early 70's when the state had half its current population. Now that the state has doubled in population with no additional water infrastructure it lives, unnecessarily, on the perpetual edge of disaster. While I'm not confident that this generation of California's will come to their senses, I'm confident that their children's or grandchildren's will, simply by resuming the task started by their Great Grandparents. That will leave the current Californians the stupid center of a rather sensible sandwich.
