That's 'all' he does? If I wanted to hear someone call other people names all the time, I'd listen to Trump.

Oh really? WOW! 1 down, 1999 to go! (And hope the shaman doesn't call out to his buddies for help.)

Use a gun and potentially escalate the situation by attracting his 2000 buddies in the building? Or try to talk to an already calm man into leaving the building, while following & monitoring his moves to ensure he doesn't hurt any lawmakers or staff?

CP officer Keith Robishaw: “The sheer number of them compared to us, I knew ahead there was no way we could all get physical with them. So I took it upon myself to try to talk to them.”

Capitol cops say they couldn’t get physical with rioters as new ‘QAnon Shaman’ video reveals hands-off approach
https://nypost.com/2023/03/06/capit...anon-shaman-video-reveals-hands-off-approach/

I have no doubt that if the shaman located & made an attempted to capture or harm a lawmaker or staff member, the cop would've use his gun. It's his job to ensure their safety.

I believe it was first reported by the New York Times on Jan 8, about 4 months before the autopsy report, but I don't know what sources they claimed they got it from. If other media outlets picked up the Times story and reported it as fact, I wouldn't know. (I believe CNN picked up the story.) Nevertheless, the Times retracted the story a month later in February saying Sicknick may not in fact have been struck by an object.

However, KHOU-11 in Houston reported in the early morning of Jan 8 that Sicknick died from a stroke after being on life support. KHOU made no mention of the officer’s being struck by a fire extinguisher. It did claim, however, that the stroke occurred “at the Capitol during riots,” and a caption under the officer’s photograph stated that he died “of injuries sustained during the riot at the Capitol.” The headline of the KHOU story attributes the conclusion that a stroke was the cause of death to the head of the Capitol Police union, Gus Papathanasiou. The body of the story identified Papathanasiou as its source for what turned out to be the erroneous report that Sicknick had passed away during the day on Thursday (the day after the riot); in fact, he was still on life support at the time and was pronounced dead late Thursday night.

https://www.khou.com/article/news/n...iots/285-0d4f3e9c-63be-4f5b-a8f8-208dbd33a85f

Makes no difference if it's him or not. It's apparent he was up and about for some time after his altercation.

Sicknick's family saw him walking around in the video, and said, "On video, Officer Sicknick looks like he managed to shake off the chemical irritants and resume his duties. That he did, but his sense of duty and incredible work ethic were the driving force which sent him back in spite of his injuries and no doubt contributed to his succumbing to his injuries the following day,"
https://sports.yahoo.com/capitol-police-chief-tears-tucker-212042864.html

He wasn't overtly injured, but one should also keep in mind that Sicknick was wearing a helmet. It's possible his head may have been jarred by the chaotic crowd & sudden movements (perhaps even an accidental elbow to his head that the helmet concealed), and this, coupled with his adrenalin rush & being bear sprayed may have precipitated the stroke. I'm curious if the x-ray, CAT scan or MRI used to detect the stroke (when he was admitted to the hospital) may have overlooked any regional swelling or hematoma from a possible concussion, owing to the more conspicuous stroke. I suspect the coroner would've looked for that too when he examined him, but who knows.

Yep. They were forced to release a whopping 16 minutes of video! WOW!

Not a list. But over a thousand arrests, more than half of which, have already ended in convictions. I'm sure there are more than a couple violent acts, mixed among those, considering that we know of about 140 assaults on police, according even to the Attorney General.

Lastly, there were reported almost 300 incidents by Capitol Police-- who had been reticent to use force, being unsure if that decision would be supported by higher ups, because of not just the optics but, especially given the statements of
some lawmakers, who'd earlier expressed their support for these protesters-- in which they'd nevertheless felt, they'd had no other option, but to use force, in response.

Because MAGA has dominated the GOP.

It's the totality of what I listed that makes them crackpots. Their hatred for anything progressive just adds to it.

Did you know South Carolina's GOP is trying to pass a bill making abortion of a zygote(!) a capital crime punishable by death? Like I said, they're certifiable crackpots.

21 South Carolina GOP Lawmakers Propose Death Penalty for Women Who Have Abortions
The “South Carolina Prenatal Equal Protection Act of 2023” would amend the state’s code of laws, redefining “person” to include a fertilized egg at the point of conception, affording that zygote “equal protection under the homicide laws of the state” — up to and including the ultimate punishment: death.

https://www.rollingstone.com/politi...h-carolina-death-penalty-abortion-1234695566/

Sounds like Trump who wants to execute all drug dealers (just like a dictator).

Did I say McConnel? McConnel, like Bill Barr, don't like Trump, yet both have said they will always vote for or support him if he's the nominee because not only do they want to support their party, but they don't want progressives gaining a foothold.

As far as McCarthy, here are a few hints for you:

Ambition keeps him loyal to Donald Trump but what does McCarthy stand for?
https://www.latimes.com/politics/story/2022-10-27/kevin-mccarthy-donald-trump-midterms-profile

Cenk is a progressive. He (like me) is not a fan of corporate/establihsment Democrats. These Democrats are barely much better than a Republican.

Progressive Media Icon Cenk Uygur Takes on the Democratic Establishment
https://theglobepost.com/2019/12/13/cenk-uygur-congress/

They're all right-wingers, which means they vote Republican - and are probably dominated by Trumpers/Trumpist mentality.

Not really. They not only hate progressive ideas, but they offer no substantive or meaningful policy as an alternative.

Trump IS their authoritarian/cult figure. Do the following descriptions sound familiar?

Cultic or ideologically extremist groups are controlled by a leader or leadership group that is both charismatic and authoritarian. These leaders are psychopaths. Both charisma and authoritarianism are required as they are the source of the group’s central organizing dynamic of “love” and fear. Charisma alone is not sufficient. Nelson Mandela was charismatic but not authoritarian. Jim Jones was both. The inner structure of a cult is closed, isolating and steeply hierarchical.
https://www.fairobserver.com/region/north_america/cult-attraction-is-not-a-problem-of-logic-90134/

Without charisma, the leader would be unable to draw people to him or herself. Without authoritarianism, leaders would lack the internal motivation and the ability to bully and control followers.
https://aeon.co/essays/how-cult-leaders-brainwash-followers-for-total-control

Free thinking, free will and free speech are limited in an environment where full obedience to leaders is required. Experts say cult leaders, in turn, have narcissistic and authoritarian streaks and are motivated by money, sex or power (perhaps all three).

You don't know what a grifter is???

Yet the Pentagon's top military official, General Milley, told reporters that the U.S. intelligence community estimated that if U.S. forces withdrew, it would be weeks, months, even years before the Afghan military fell to the Taliban. Instead, it was just 11 days.

And, General Milley said that at a meeting of top military officials on Aug. 25, they "made a unanimous recommendation that we end the military mission and transition to a diplomatic mission." Note that the evacuation began on August 15, 2021, so this recommendation took place a full 10 days after the mission began. The mission basically ended after 17 days when 124,000+ people had been evacuated, while the Afghan govt & military collapsed 5 days earlier.

Really Mr. Milley? Transition to a 'diplomatic mission' on the 10th day, when ~73,000 people had already been evacuated, the Taliban was taking over Kabul, and the Afghan govt & ANDSF had almost completely collapsed? Would leaving a contingent of a few thousand soldiers plus the recommended 6000 NATO troops have been able to repel the Taliban's 80,000+ soldiers that were advancing on Kabul? Perhaps only with air strikes. And would the Taliban, having regained dominance in the country, have even been willing to negotiate, let alone be willing to honor any diplomatic agreements when they didn't need to?

Note: Adhering to the conditions of the Doha Agreement of Feb 2020, the US dramatically reduced the number of US air raids, leaving the ANDSF without a key advantage in keeping the Taliban at bay. This resulted in 'a sense of abandonment within the ANDSF and the Afghan population'. ANDSF was ill-prepared to sustain security following a US withdrawal, which allowed for the Taliban insurgency, ultimately leading to the Taliban takeover of Kabul on 15 August 2021.

It seems both military & administration officials failed to predict the rapid collapse of the Afghan govt & military.

* Sec. of Defense Lloyd Austin said that nobody expected the Afghan govt to collapse so quickly (in only 11 days). The rapid collapse apparently didnt' give them the time they needed to evacuate everyone.
* Biden said the lightening-speed collapse of Afghanistan's security forces, despite 20 years and $80 billion of U.S.-led training and equipment, only confirmed the futility of a conflict that should have ended long ago. He said his advisers have said no one at the Pentagon or in the U.S. intelligence community predicted that Afghan security forces would fall so quickly and with so little resistance.
* The USAID spending watchdog found the US military to be persistently overoptimistic about the Afghan military capability.

The way I see it is this. Either you get everyone out and let the chips fall where they may. Or you stay in Afghanistan with a forever US military presence - because there is no way to secure the country with a US-friendly puppet govt without a permanent foreign military presence, even despite the US-trained ANDSF. Doing the latter would be a waste of taxpayer money and also endanger the lives of Americans & Afghanis - because the Taliban can wait forever until the US/NATO decides to leave.

-----------------------------------

With that said, here's a fun fact you probably weren't aware of. On Nov 11, 2021 Trump tried to order the evacuation of US troops & personnel from Afghanistan & Somalia shortly before leaving office. He ordered that the evacuation be completed by Jan 15! What does this mean? Read the following.

Trump ordered immediate Afghan withdrawal ‘knowing he was leaving office,’ Jan 6 committee says
General Milley testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee in September 2021 that he had received an "unclassified signed order" from former Mr Trump on November 11, 202 to withdraw all troops by January 15, which is just five days before Mr Trump would have been due to leave office. The order was rescinded after further discussions, Gen Milley added.
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...fghanistan-withdrawal-january-6-b2202394.html

Kinzinger says Trump’s troop withdrawal order is ‘key evidence’ he knew he lost election
Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., one of two Republican members on the Jan. 6 panel, said that interviews with former Trump administration officials showed that former President Donald Trump admitted privately that he knew he had lost. Kinzinger said that “key evidence” of this was Trump’s directive to withdraw troops from Afghanistan and Somalia before he left office in November. “[Trump] disregarded concerns about the consequences for fragile governments on the front lines of the fight against ISIS and al Qaida terrorists,” Kinzinger said. “Knowing he was leaving office, he acted immediately and signed this order on Nov. 11, which would have required the immediate withdrawal of troops from Somalia and Afghanistan, all to be completed before the Biden inauguration on Jan. 20.”

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politi...rder-is-key-evidence-he-knew-he-lost-election

The armed forces frequently do their own investigations because, after all, they are the military & lives are put on the line. So of course they need to be as efficient as possible & always look to improving operations where necessary. They also have to do their own investigations because classified/Top Secret material might be involved.

So if a mission goes awry, you don't think the armed forces will investigate it to see why it failed so it won't be repeated? They even have a JAG to deal with the bad seeds. The Army in fact did conduct an investigation on the Afghanistan evacuation to see what went wrong and who/what may have been to blame.

And later, Congress carried out its own investigation where they questioned, among others, General Milley & Sec. of Defense Lloyd Austin.

Apparently this Senate hearing in Sep 2021 on the Afghanistan evacuation went completely under my own radar. I had no idea - lol. But it begs the question, why does the GOP now want to carry out another 'investigation'? Have they run out of things to 'investigate' in their desparation to impeach Biden because the Hunter pursuit was a flop? Is it another circus show to maintain their voter base?

How about executing meaningful policies to benefit the nation & its people for a change?

Two reasons:

(1) If it was an Antifa infiltrator he would have had to be aware of the mob's plans before hand. It's certainly possible, but it doesn't seem probable.

(2) I can imagine a well-briefed undercover agent carrying zip ties as part of his infiltration assignment, since there'd be no threat of prosecution. But for an Antifa infiltrator, it doesn't seem probable he'd go that far because it places him at greater risk of prosecution if he's caught.

It's a moot point now anyway because he's been identified as Eric Munchel. He and his mother were both charged. There's a video of both entering the building together. (Like mother like son - lol)

But speaking of Eric Munchel, who yelled "We ain't playing f**king nice!", I watched the video of him & his mom entering the building and it appears possible that he didn't bring the zip ties but may have found them or received them from another rioter. I can't be sure, but whatever the case, I believe he and his buddies the zip ties were shared with (see video) were likely going to use them on lawmakers. In the video a woman can be heard saying "zip ties", after which Munchel can be heard saying, "Zip ties! Give me some of them motherf**kers!"

And no one would care what the crazy reds believed except for the fact that there's so damn many of them. Mental asylum workers can handle their patients in a stable setting, but only as long as their patients aren't in charge. As it turns out, in the US we have two problems: (1) the patients are in charge, and (2) we're all out of straight jackets. LOL

I'm glad you finally agree! There were negative consequences as Trump warned Germany in going down the road of energy dependency with a **** stain like Russia. And who knows? Had Russia decided to make this move on Ukraine 5 years down the road instead of now...how further along on that energy dependency would Germany have become?

But you are right, Germany was stupid. But not for diving or not diving into renewables...but for jumping on the panic train and shutting down nuclear energy.

https://www.cleanenergywire.org/factsheets/history-behind-germanys-nuclear-phase-out

Renewables are just not there yet to completely replace fossil fuels. And Trump is a big supporter of nuclear energy. As anyone should be as it's the cleanest most reliable option we have right now.

So yeah, Germany was stooopid all around while they were laughing in arrogance at Trump who was warning them of their incoming hardships.

Should have done less laughing and more building of nuclear power plants. Had they only listened to Trump they wouldn't be resorting back to burning coal...

I love how they used the word "Trump" in the title there, don't you? It's kind of a reminder as to how stupid they look right about now as they ignored Trump's warnings to pivot off of Russian dependency.

So pick another topic. I think this one's been buried.

I guess you don't know the meaning of "infiltrator."

Going to a riot with your mother. What a lovely thing to do! I think that I will stick to just having coffee with my mother!

How do you define "MAGA?" Just anyone who voted for Trump?

FAKE NEWS from leftist Rolling Stone. Can you see any support for the claim that it will punish women with the death penalty?

So by Republican "leadership", you just mean McCarthy? If so then you should have just said his name!

Don't they also not want ALL democrats gaining a foothold?

I actually did not know that he voted to reject the electors in Arizona and Pennsylvania. The latter there is somewhat of an argument for, given that Pennsylvania violated its own Constitution for the election. Were you aware of that?

So because they vote Republican, the Republican Party endorses them?

You said 'authoritarian figures" Plural.

Yeah, those descriptions sounds familiar. They pretty well describe most politicians actually. Obama, Trump, Biden.

I mean, how was it a "grifting administration?"

I thought that you said that Biden did nothing wrong. Now you include him in this list of officials who failed? Which is it?

Correct.

I have no thoughts. Do you know what it means?

What would the execution of "meaningful policies" have to do with the relevant committee or committees which would conduct military investigation?

Why are you posting this? I already covered it. If you bothered reading my posts you'd see these (like coal, LNG, nukes, etc.) are all temporary measures to weather the storm, which is now beginning to settle down. Coal is being used as an interim measure until March 2024 to help reduce gas usage. Meanwhile, renewables provided almost half the nation's electricity consumption in 2022, and I'm sure that number will appreciate faster than expected in the coming months & years.

Did you think Germans have a one-track mind? Germans are a very innovative, resourceful and industrious people, and become quickly unified in times of upheaval. After all, they endured (and instigated) two world wars. They never had any intention on staying chained to any amount of fossil fuels (unlike the American corporatocracy) even before the Ukraine invasion. And I'm sure they'll meet their 2045 goal of net neutrality, if not sooner than that.

Like I said earlier, the Ukraine invasion was the push Germany needed to ramp up its renewable energy sector, which was already in ongoing use & development. It'll just move along faster now. Being Europe's largest economy and an economic heavyweight on its own, Germany has many options at its disposal that other nations don't have. It's just a matter of integrating them.

Still, the debate here was about Trump telling Germany they'll be "totally dependent" on Russian energy. That has never happened and never will. So Trump was wrong, and he deserved to be laughed at. You thought Germany would sink, but it didn't. The Ukraine invasion caused a tremor - not an earthquake.

Now, if Trump had instead copied what other nations had warned Germany about for years - ie, that Germany could experience a shake-up if it continued relying on cheap Russian gas as a source of half its gas needs - then he'd be accurate and wouldn't have been laughed at. (Perhaps Trump was parroting the warnings by other nations, but put his own twist of hyperbole on it? Who knows.)

But Germany - particularly its industries - wanted the cheaper gas. Now the govt will do what's best for the people & the nation and not what private interests want. Germany's predicament should be a good lesson in (1) relying on fossil fuels for energy, and (2) what happens when govts listen to or allow themselves to be manipulated by the private sector.

Your point?

What's your point?

I did not talk about shooting anyone. You said that the Shaman piece of crap was "imposing" and that the cops might have been worried that he would injure them. Remember?

Again, well after it had hardened into conventional wisdom that he was killed on the day with a fire extinguisher. Carlson was simply giving people another opportunity to hear the FACTS on his large platform. And the New York times just made a correction to the original report. Not a new report. Totally useless: Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick Dies from Injuries in Pro-Trump Riot - The New York Times (nytimes.com)

Well how great... for the people of Houston who listen to KHOU-11.

You sound like a doctor or a nurse.

To clarify, this is for the Jan 6 Committee?

Yes, the words I had left out, had been: "the Floyd protests to which you were trying to draw an analogy, lasted two weeks." Or, "the Floyd protests which you were comparing to J6, lasted two weeks." For some reason, I must have felt that you could follow that I was using your own, cited timespan, so didn't need to explain that to you. My mistake.

If you had said: the PERIOD OF Floyd protests to which you were trying to draw an analogy lasted two weeks, then I would have understood. I wasn't talking about the Floyd protests. I was talking about a specific period of the protests.

MAGA is not a Republican. But a Republican can become a MAGA, in which case they're no longer Republican.

Rolling Stone is actually quite reputable. But do a search. It's on many different news media sites. I just clicked the first one that popped up. The story is true. But I don't think the proposal will pass - unless all of S. Carolina has lost its marbles.

I said "loyal lawmakers". That means more than 1. You're the one who mentioned McCarthy & McConnell, so I addressed your post.

Sure. Because a Democratic presidential administration means progressives will have more influence. They can tolerate a traditional establishment/corporate Democrat. But there's always the risk of progressive undertones creeping in, which is something the GOP is afraid of. The GOP's greatest fear is that America begins to copy the liberal democracies of Europe. Perhaps because it would mean the end of the GOP.

Are you referring to Act 77?

If they do, they won't do it openly. They know the stigma & history of violence attached to extremist right-wing groups.

Huh?

No. They describe Trump to a T (no pun intended). lol

You asked, "what IS" it - not "how was it". But anyway, take a look at how Trump & his family got uber rich during Trump's four years in office. I posted info on this on some other thread. I can try to find it for you if you like.

I had said he was innocent because he gave the order to evacuate, but was not involved in the many months of detailed planning for the operation. I don't know if he did anything wrong per se. Only that absolutely no one, not even the Pentagon or Intelligence agencies, had expected such a sudden collapse of the Afghan govt & military/security forces.

It means Trump wanted to rush the evacuation before Biden's inauguration because (1) he knew he lost the election (otherwise he would've waited to serve a second term), and (2) he wanted to take credit for the evacuation & rob Biden of the opportunity.

Nothing if the investigation is not warranted. The GOP is not interested in meaningful policy, but only in putting on a show for their constituents for the sake of re-election & self enrichment.

You laughed about there being only 2 Republicans on the committee. I showed you why this was - basically that it was the McCarthy's/GOP's fault. Do you understand now?

I was pointing out the uselessness of arresting a single rioter when one is substantially outnumbered. Do you understand now?

If the cops tried to arrest the shaman they may have ended up having to shoot him because he didn't look like he would go down without a fight - considering he was with 2000 others in the building which would bolster his courage & confidence.

'Hardened into conventional wisdom' among WHOM? Are you using Tucker's words here because that's the way he talks. Just because a couple or a few news outlets get it wrong doesn't mean the entire nation believes it. It also doesn't mean these news outlets outright lied - more likely they were too hasty in printing what they were told. People who were watching did see a fire extinguisher being thrown at a cop (I remember I did). So it's not inconceivable to believe that some cop may have been injured or even died from the impact of one. Most (like me) weren't even aware of the NYT article, nor even of CNN picking up the same story.

Yep. So much for 'hardened conventional wisdom', eh?

I'm neither - just interested in medical/health stuff.

No, for the multiple media outlets that had petitioned for it.

Right. That's what I had meant, I am now telling you, for the third time. Sorry, I had not made myself clearer.

The exact quote was "Germany will become totally dependent on Russia for energy if it doesn't immediately change course"

Apparently you think "will become" means the same as "is now"? Trump saw that with the pipeline there will be a steadfast growing of dependency on Russian oil. Energy of which Russia had used in the past as leverage to other countries.

And Germany in full display openly laughed at the idea. And now here they are scrambling to shore up energy supplies by reverting back to burning coal. "Silly Trump! We love to spike our economy with inflation from high energy costs while pushing back our climate obligations going back to burning coal!"

Lol

They should have listened to Trump. He was right.

;)

So what else would you like to discuss?
