We do need more self defense, however. I've been told that we're living in an epidemic of gun violence. I don't want to be a victim.
And the courts have already ruled that they don't have any obligation to protect you. If anyone has noticed across America slowly to "protect and serve" slogan... Has been quietly removed from police vehicles. I saw it here in my own town. Why carry a gun? Because it fits in your pocket a whole lot better than a 230 lb police officer. Nowadays when the police come to protect and serve your ass... You will know your ass has been protected and served!!!
" We didn't have these issues in the past for the most part "..... Says Lucifer. You are absolutely correct. In the past high schoolers used to drive to school with guns in the back rack of their pickup truck and no one got shot because of arguments. And there were still plenty of guns available to everyone in those days.... If not more than they are now because the laws were far less restrictive and yet fewer people were getting shot. This should tell you something about the nature of the problem and that the nature of the problem is not the availability of guns.
Unless he suddenly comes out as transsexual.... Or whatever the current flavor of the day is for whatever the current perversion of the day is..... Then there could be some sort of transexual day of vengeance or something..
Yes, it has. But they changed in the 70s. They became a lobbying organization for the gun industry. Prior to that, they represented gun owners.
What changed was: - Drug use - When I was a kid, smoking cigarettes in school was a big offense. Now most young people do drugs. - Shoplifting was a crime. Now flashmobs make stealing the norm. - Families were strong. Now divorce is stronger and so many kids come from dadless families... there's no discipline of structure. So much more in society has fallen apart. There are no rules...
Yeah, I've been pretty quiet up to now. Google "epidemic of gun violence". You'll find lots of articles from innumerate sources who've forgotten the 60s, 70s, 80s and 80s.
Why did they change? What did they change? They formed a lobby to prevent further gun control. In my mind that supports gun owners.
that is because they realized that the Democrat party was only pretending to do something about crime and instead was scapegoating gun owners while protecting criminals .
So, very briefly, what measures do you think would be most effective in reducing America's overall homicide rate? Since we've already tried banning things, (Prohibition, "The War on Drugs" etc) I hope we've learned, again, that human behavior cannot be controlled by attempting to manipulate inanimate objects or substances. One thing that has not been tried is to upgrade America's Mental Health system so that killers can be detected, treated and monitored after treatment before they kill. I don't think that additional bans and gun control laws are called for because a determined killer will find a weapon and make crude WMDs that sometimes kill more people than any firearm. The following is just one example of what happened when a determined killer couldn't find a gun to kill his ex girlfriend: "Happy Land fire" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Happy_Land_fire EXCERPT "González went to an Amoco gas station, then returned to the establishment with a plastic container with $1 worth of gasoline.[2][4] He spread the fuel at the base of a staircase, the only access into the club, and then ignited the gasoline. Eighty-seven people died in the resulting fire."CONTINUED As you can see, gun laws did not deter this killer from killing his ex girlfriend. Those other 86 people may still be alive if the killer had been able to get a gun. Based on this and similar incidents, it is at least possible that if and when America's guns become harder to find, America's homicide rate will get worse. Thanks,
I've got a CCW permit but very rarely carry a firearm except when I have to go through rough areas of town or am driving at night. We live in a rural area and the main reason I carry a large caliber pistol is to euthanize a deer I might hit with my car. I don't see anything odd about having firearms, fire extinguishers and smoke detectors around the house were they may be needed especially when home is a big, rambling, old farmhouse. Like @Turtledude, I've got loaded firearms stashed in 3 locations and, yes, this old place is considered big by most people. We ended up buying my wife's grandmother's old home with 2 kitchens, 4 bedrooms, a windmill, a barn, outbuildings, too much grass and kitchen / dining room for 40 people. My wife's grandmother who just happened to have been my First Grade teacher made us an offer we couldn't refuse. Since then, I built my blacksmith shop which is next to my target range. We've been here about 25 years and are still working on the place. Back to the point, most people I know have at least 1 loaded firearm in their home. Thanks,
Assault rifle: The weapon you describe is not one. We've given you several inches, we're long past playing just the tip with you people. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. We've tried your compromises. Disarming the law abiding doesn't help, and you keep disregarding prior compromises and pretending they weren't made. We're done with that ****. We'll be walking back as many of those compromises as possible and if you don't like it: We don't care. There is no requirement I have a 'legitimate reason' to own or possess a firearm. See 2a. Amend that if you want to change it, see Art V for how. Additionally: There is certainly a legitimate reason, defense of homestead https://www.ammoland.com/2019/02/ho...-corral-home-owner-uses-ak47-in-self-defense/
You do realize the NRA has literally approved all the gun control we currently have..... right? Those guys are just grifters. The fact you're citing them as if they do anything positive in the modern era tells me a lot about your knowledge base on the subject. What kinda mass shooting issues did we have when you could buy a machine gun mail order without ID cash on delivery? You know... pre NFA so prior to 33? You DO know that was a thing right? Fun fact: When gun control goes up? Lynchings of ethnic minorities increase. Why do you want the lynchings of ethnic minorities to increase?
Pretty sure the NRA did not "approve" the AWBs held by the several states. That's probably true. But, if they want to think the NRA is the boogeyman and let them focus their attention there -- don't stop them.
They supported the NFA. Literally testified in favor. They supported the Mulford act in CA under Reagan. Etc. They only changed their tune somewhat in the 70's when a board member got raided and shot in the back. They're now grifters who serve no useful purpose but to distract grabbers with something bright and shiny.
So you think the thing holding back idiotic gun regulations is "big gun" lol. The uninformed are so funny when they try and come up with reasons why stupid ideas they have convinced themselves are "common sense" fall flat. Maybe it's just that they aren't really common sensible, it's better than a conspiracy theory where a gun industry is more powerful than the government or voters like the gun industry is really a shadow government pulling strings. I think Illuminati or reptilians would have been less funny.
The NRA is deeply flawed and make boneheaded moves but somehow they and the gun industry are the shadow government of the US
M'kay, well learn to recognize rhetorical hyperbole so I don't have to explain it to you next. K thanks.
