Ummm, it actually DOES require engineering knowledge. lol... you are arguing about sh*t you have no understanding of.

Hows this for substance, we continue to research and develop technology that will keep us the worlds most powerful military.

because the technology is has not been created that would make electric jumbo jet viable. yet. you guys are a weird bunch. we'd still be fighting trench warfare if some people had their way.

Regarding weight issues. It will probably be possible to use the batteries as part of the armour of the vehicle hence becoming dual role by reducing the current weight of the existing armour. The advantage of batteries is that redundancy can be built into the power supply meaning that the vehicle will carry on working if battery cells are destroyed. A major advantage over current vehicles

And we will eventually run out of the coal and gas which produces the electricity for electric tanks and IFV's. And we will eventually run out of the rare earth minerals require for the batteries.

Use the batteries as reactive armour ROFLMFAO !!! That redundancy means LESS armour and munitions .

All you have to do it keep reposting the reality, although I seriously doubt the ignorant will understand :)

Then again, we could build small field reactors, that might work AND end wars in a much shorter time :)

    Stupid + Corrupt + Evil = Government

"It seems that the problem with government as an institution is uniformly bad, worldwide. It may be the ONLY thing that binds all nations together - the incompetence of all of their governments ... The unions are the mafia, which is the CIA, which is the Catholic Church, which is the government, which is what's the difference? It's corrupt! It's the same guys pulling these strings, you know? One day he pulls the string and this lamp comes out, the next say he pulls the string and there's a missile coming out." Frank Zappa

Which is not to say that we do not need the GD stupid thing. ;-)

    Common Sense: Step 1 - 100: R & D
Step 101: Start limited production and see what comes out.

Ya I have seen some of todays youth. They are not only not motivated to work or succeed they live at home until they are the tender age of 30.

The only reason the U.S. hasn't been taken over by China is because they don't want the burden of supporting these do nothings ;)

To you: And how long does it take to charge up?

You: great question lol. ffs, do you guys think our engineers, scientists, and generals are dumb?

We have vast experience and lots of engineers and scientist have been working on EV's for decades as far as I know that technology is not different than for military vehicle is there going to be some new scientific and engineering breakthrough because they are military vehicles?

ffs man, are you okay? the tech in its current state is not sufficient to power military vehicles. that is not to say that it will never be. and the tech ought to be researched and developed for reasons already stated in this thread. Now unless you have some advanced engineering knowledge and you would like to enlighten us I'd say that you aren't really qualified to opine on the possibility of electric MV's coming to fruition.

Did you ever fire a 50 caliber round into a large Lithium battery?

They can power semi's pulling 60,000 pounds what are you talking about? How is in different for a tank, a tracked vehicle like a bulldozer, or IFV. Batteries and motors what is this new different technology?

How long would it take to charge up a tank in the field and how would you do it?

just because you can't fathom a way (which, c'mon is not surprising) does not mean its impossible. Go ahead, professor, have the last word lol.

I calculated that with a 100kW generator (large for homes, small for military) it would take about 3 days at 100% load to fully charge a depleted tank battery. And it would require about 20-25% of the the fuel that t tank would use in one day to run the generator. You could of course get larger generators that would likely be bigger than the tank and remember you need one generator for every tank, otherwise the next tank would have to wait 3 days to even get hooked up.

Did you also look at how much battery space would be needed to power a tank? This just seems like a ridiculous plan by the Biden administration.

Certainly you don't assume battery and charging tech is settled. All you're doing here is reiterating what everyone knows: the current state of EV science is insufficient for the application in the OP. Your post is boring - and lazy - tbh.

Reactive armour already exists and the use of batteries are already being researched

"Bulletproof batteries could soon be used as armour for soldiers. Lumping military kit around on foot is a tiresome job, with batteries accounting for as much as a quarter of the weight they have to carry. But if they doubled up as armour too that could drastically lighten the load."

“The technology is becoming available to take a very different approach to MBT design using advanced materials, novel automotive systems, new weapon systems and active protection systems, resulting in much lighter, more agile platforms,”
