Common sense dictates the recognition of the fact the Constitution, necessarily and intentionally, takes certain policy choices off the table.

If you aren't willing to accept this, you aren't interested in common sense.

I think of Thomas Paine when I hear the words "Common Sense".

    https://www.ushistory.org/paine/commonsense/sense1.htm

Most people these days do not posses common sense. Instead they possess what we call horse sense- swat them on the backside and they move a little faster...,

"Common sense gun control" is just a pretty way of calling for an all out ban and confiscation.

It's a dishonest appeal to emotion and/or ignorance.

Well, we could amend the const. But almost no one seeking gun reform seems interested in doing so, rather they would see it done by regulatory fiat. I guess they want to retain the technical right to bear arms, but make it so the commoner has to wade through too much red tape to realistically excersize that right. Typical elitists- 'I want to do it while preventing you from doing it.'

Common sense gun control is BS. Find me one so called common sense gun control that will stop murder or mass shootings.

why did this happen? is it because Obama constantly brayed for gun bans while he was in office, or was it that his quota picks for the supreme court are extremely hostile to gun rights and gun owners, and his attempt to put Merrick Garland on the court-a guy who clearly would ban firearms if he could-showed what Obama wanted?

Does "common sense" mean Constitutional, effective and enforceable?

i have followed politics for 50 years and only when guns are involved to i hear the word "constitution" common sense is self explanatory and self-defining with no per-conditions IMO

'AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not criminals.'

What do you think Obama meant, in the context of gun control, when he made this remark? Cuz it sounds like he thinks the average 'AK47' owner (and prolly the average semi-auto rifle owner, since this was in a speech defending the ban on imports of sporterized civilian-legal semi-auto rifles) is either a 'soldier' or a 'criminal' when clearly, the vast majority of us are neither. One could (and many do) draw the conclusion that merely having an 'AK47' makes one either a soldier or a criminal in the eyes of Obama, and given he never attempted to treat 'AK47' owners as soldiers, then criminals is the far more reasonable assumption. Is this a justifiable remark given that most people who have 'AK47's have never committed any crime? Are we all criminals?

If "common sense" gun control doesn't require Constitutionality, efficacy and enforceability it's a useless descriptor.

you are so very welcome..i come from suburban american, never had a need for a weapon, sooner or latter the bodies will pile high enough you can say bye, bye to most gun ownership, time will tell, unless gun owners become much more involved in policing their own

So you think he was referring to literal, unmodified, fully automatic AK47s and nothing else, when he made this statement in a speech explaining why he was banning the importation of numerous semi automatic modified firearms that had been sporterized from military platforms like the AK.

That doesnt seem a very informed or genuine position...

Or is it that you think Obama just didn't know wtf he was talking about?

What do you mean by "policing their own"? Armed patrols of the neighborhoods where violence is most likely to occur with a legal mandate to intervene?

I assumed you knew more of the context than you apparently did. My bad. Now that you're more familiar with the context, do you have a more sensible answer to the question?

its no secret that a vast number of people wish to get rid of semi automatic weapons, and see no overriding need for them, as i have said i never had a personal use for any weapon, but thats just me and my own preference...i am sure smarter people have a solution as i dont think our country can go forever with all the gun violence...at 67 yrs old i dont get worked up about it
