Sergey Karaganov's speeches should be taken very, very seriously. First, because he is intelligent and experienced in international affairs. Secondly, because he is responsible, since he holds positions, near- the Foreign Ministry.
Sergey Karaganov suggests moving from rhetorical threats, not at all scary for a West that has forgotten the horrors of war, to direct and unambiguous ones. One could say that a survey of public opinion about the public's readiness for nuclear war is taking place.
As an example, we can show the results of a survey on a Russian political website, which is rather reserved in its evaluations.
The question was: "Are you ready to launch a pre-emptive nuclear strike and turn the West into radioactive ash?"
The answers were distributed as follows.
    1. No. Barbaric Russia should be turned into radioactive ash. - 0%
    2. No. The civilized West is right about everything! And stupid Russia must surrender! - 0%
    3. Not yet...But the Western scumbags are doing everything to make us hate them... - 23%
    4. Yes! These scumbags are fed up...Until we recycle them, they won't leave us alone...It's us or us... - 58%
    5. Why just the West?! We must turn ALL of our enemies to ash! - 12%
    6. Guys, let's live together! We're not suicidal! - 6%
    7. Other - 3%
    [IMG]

And even if we take into account the fact that some people always show excessive pathos in such matters, the results of the survey clearly indicate that the Russians are in fact ready for a nuclear conflict.
Historically, however, Russians have always been at war. And so the Russians are always ready for war.
And everything is going to happen - nuclear weapons are already in Belarus, nuclear submarines are already shoaling near the US coast, unmanned nuclear torpedoes have already been created and put into service.... already "nuclear trains" are on alert. In general, of course, it is not a fact, but there is a high probability that the West will once again provoke a global, this time, nuclear war.

And that won't lead to a civil war in Russia?

Why? He's just another Russian state official pushing the propaganda that Putin would be willing to use strategic nuclear weapons if he doesn't get what he wants. It is telling that you linked an article on some random conspiracy site which didn't reference it's sources but the original quotes were from the Russian state-run RIA Novosti.(https://news.yahoo.com/russian-secu...xPAWknUFRwadBmJT1sIUlqO740fKxfCdliCxpfKAcyGGQ)

A poll on an unidentified "Russian political website" is hardly telling, especially if it's one you're on meaning it isn't only native Russians. Also, your efforts to hide the number of votes failed and we can see these they are based on fewer than 30 votes.

No, historically (and definitely today) Russian leaders have always promoted the impression that they're constantly at war because manufacturing a external enemy is a good method to prevent people from considering any internal enemies (other countries leaders do that to greater or lesser extent too).

You just spent an entire post highlighting Russian leaders promoting the idea of pre-emptive nuclear strikes, claiming that the Russian people support that idea and appear to be supportive of the idea yourself (at least as a real threat). In what way is anyone provoking nuclear war other than Russian government and you?

Until he loses power. The attempted mutiny, on the contrary, showed great support for Putin.
Regarding age.... You just look at Biden. And compare him to Putin.

    Soon we will all see.
You spoke with the same pathos just recently about Russia's economy being "torn to shreds" and in Russia having rockets pumped into them, that your unsubstantiated arguments are simply ridiculous.
By the way, why are you silent about Russian nuclear submarines near the U.S. coast? Why are you silent about nuclear missiles in Belarus? Why don't you say anything about unmanned Poseidon submarines and "nuclear" trains?
Or do you think these are, as the likes of you have said, Putin's cartoons? :roflol::roflol::roflol:

What do you mean? This isn't about what will or won't happen, it was about your promoting propaganda about what you think could and should happen. We can already see that is what you said.

No I didn't. Are you mistaking me for someone else or are you just spouting generalised attacks from your default script?

What is there to say? All sides in such conflicts play this kind of mind games, especially in this era of mass communication. I wasn't challenging the ability of Russia to laugh nuclear strikes though, I was challenging your promotion of the idea as a viable and acceptable tactic (for any nation).

If that poll could truly be taken to represent Russian public opinion-- in which 58% supposedly favor a so called "pre-emptive" nuclear strike on Europe, with another 12%, ready to nuke everybody else (and only 6% being sane enough to want to live together peacefully, recognizing that nuclear conflict is suicidal)-- it would be solid proof that Russians need to have their nukes removed, and be ruled by foreign powers, as they are clearly not civilized enough, for self-government.

Of course, I have my reservations first, whether this is actually representative of Russian public opinion. And even if it is, I think this would clearly be the result of government propaganda. So, if this poll can be taken seriously, it would be a compelling argument that regime change in Russia, is absolutely vital to world safety.

So what you are saying is we need to strike Russia first?

    Ok!

Do you understand what you are writing? Or are you randomly clicking on the keyboard?
What kind of propaganda are you talking about? The article was written by an American publisher.
Or do you think that the facts that the Russian politician is talking about are fiction? Maybe you consider the presence of Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus a lie and propaganda? Or the presence of Russian nuclear submarines off the U.S. coast is, in your opinion, propaganda and lies?

The answer is yes. These Putin propaganda parrots have zero interest in any kind of debate or discussion. They post the same empty and meaningless nonsense over and over again thinking they are achieving something. When their made up fantasy stories are exposed and they're confronted with facts, their typical reply consists either of repeated, scripted, hallow phrases including everybody who disagrees with their rubbish is worng and brainwashed, or sudden disappearance, until they start the next thread with the same nonsense. Do not expect any mature behaviour or discussion culture from people like that.

    That's your opinion.
But how do you feel about outright lies about chemical weapons in Iraq to start a war and kill millions of people? What about NATO's war against Afghanistan? How about the bombing of a country in the middle of Europe, Yugoslavia? Bombing, Contrary to the UN ban.
As for your desire to take nuclear weapons from Russia.... come and try to do so.

I'm very confident that we could absolutely glass all of Russia several times over. You are just giving a good reason why we should!

SoulAsk.com actually seems to be registered in Greece, though the owners are anonymous and there is no by-line on the article so who knows who actually wrote and published it. It could have been you for all we know (via a decent editor of course). Regardless, the source of the quotes was a Russian official as presented by Russian state media so clearly those underlying statements could be (and almost certainly are, IMO) propaganda.

The facts aren't propaganda. The suggestion that Putin/Russia would, or is in any way being forced to, consider a pre-emptive strategic nuclear strike anywhere is propaganda though. Even Putin isn't that crazy and certainly enough people in the Russian chain of command won't be that crazy.

They (and you) are trying to convince enough people in the wider world that this is any kind of realistic prospect to scare them in to calling for the support of Ukraine to be reduced or removed. They couldn't actually follow through with the threat without risking the mutually-assured destruction that has held back all nuclear actors since WW2.

You've been saying this since before the invasion. No one of any consequence in your country is seriously discussing the use of nuclear weapons. There are no indications that such an attack is actually in the works.

As always, it's just active measures, propaganda aimed at scaring people in the west in a desperate bid to get us to stop supporting Ukraine.

Soon we will all see what we have been seeing for over a year already. :bored:

I can think of many negative things I can say about Putin but being stupid is not one of them. You are the only one who thinks he is stupid.
