The Antiabortion Movement in 2023: Everything to Know (elle.com) Now, after accomplishing its long-held dream of ending Roe, the antiabortion movement has turned its focus to a new target: birth control, with several states introducing legislation that could restrict or outlaw certain forms. If left unopposed, it is clear there are some politicians, judges, and activists who would not only deny people the ability to end unwanted pregnancies, but also the ability to prevent pregnancies in the first place. the article paints a chilling picture of the post roe vs wade dystopia, with the answer "of course . the pill, condoms, whatever, will be illegal no matter how long it takes or how much misery results."
geesh. can't edit that atricious typo in the title. best to let this one fall. of course your "conservatives" will always want to prevent birth control to keep wages down and women docile.
I'd like to say "that's completely unrealistic, there's nowhere near enough support for it..." but I have to admit I might be making the same fallacy as the people who suggest 'reasonable gun restrictions arent about banning all guns.' Clearly there's no small amount of closet support for it, and they seem happy to do it by piecemeal. I'll just say this. Again. We need to stop banning ****. ALL OF US.
If their assertion is that "life begins" at conception, then I could see how that would naturally lead them to be against some birth control. Not condoms. Condoms help prevent conception and also help with STDs, but few enjoy using them (well, better than unintended pregnancy, AIDS, or not having sex at all, but you know, frequently disliked compared to not using them). A gray area would be the pill. It usually prevents ovulation, which prevents conception, but particularly with imperfect use, it can also stop the sperm at the cervix via altered mucus (also not conception), OR it can stop the fertilized egg from implanting into the endometrial lining, much like plan B and they would have a problem with Plan B and possibly orals for this reason. It's also the main mechanism for IUDs that don't use hormones. Of course, the idea that personhood begins at conception is insane, but here we are.
It will be birth control and sex education being taught in schools. The anti-abortion movement is founded and rooted primarily on religious core values. Although not evertyone in the antiabortion movement are religious, the primary leaders are and are not shy in stating so given the appropriate audience.
christians deny protection of whales , elephants, and such other intelligent inhabitants of the planet because they are not, supposedly, "self aware." my cat is certainly more self aware than a clump if cells aren't you, snowball?
All morally meaningful life begins at having a mind, even a rudimentary one. Killing a rat ought to induce more guilt than killing a zygote, even a human one. I'm not saying I stay up late worrying about the rats, only that they have far more moral value as beings than a zygote.
The young human just conceived has to make it to the wall of the uterus to survive and to grow. Still that conception contains all that we are as a person. What you describe affects how certain birth control types are classified. If it stops conception or even prevents attachment to the uterine wall it’s birth control. If it removes a person from the moms uterine wall or otherwise destroys a once attached person it’s an abortion pill/device.
Especially considering the failure rate between conception and implantation which is estimated to be between 50- 70%
In the English language there are adjectives ( human) and nouns ( A human). There are two different words because there are two different things. "A" human being (noun) is different from the adjective "human". A human being and person are synonyms, they mean the same thing and refer to BORN humans. "human" refers to anything human like a human heart or human fetus.....neither are persons but both are human. There is no difference between human being and a person but a BIG difference between them and a human fetus, they are BORN
Nonsense. Preventing a pregnancy is not a problem with anybody that has common sense. It isn't like killing one.
No condoms are the devil. As a conservative I believe the only purpose of sex is to have babies. Anything that prevents sex from producing babies must be outlawed. Also, sterile couples must not be allowed to have sex.
