The film "Barbie" earned 155 million dollars in the first weekend in the United States, the film "Oppenheimer" - 82.5 million.
The intellectual level of the average US viewer is understandable. Poor old Oppenheimer, if he had known that this would happen, he would not have made a nuclear bomb for these , , , how to put it mildly ..... characters.

Yes, yes, you got it right - “Barbie” is a full–length feature film, not even a cartoon. And yes, it's a movie about a stupid doll.

By the way, I'm wondering, according to current trends accepted in the United States, Barbie must be transgender, and her boyfriend must necessarily be black gay. Why are the norms of tolerance not observed? :roflol::roflol::roflol:

It's entertainment. Would you prefer Putin dancing on a cluster munition?
And, why is Russia trying to amplify culture wars? < This one is rhetorical.

Awww, the default position. Vladdie's weakness is not caused by the west, he's the problem not Barbie.

It's amusing to watch you try to use this as an attack on America. It's too absurd to work.

I suspect Barbie did better because it's a family-friendly film and one with broader appeal overall. People tend to like comedies and upbeat movies more than darker, more serious films like Oppenheimer.

Ironically, the "Barbenheimer" phenomenon probably give Oppenheimer a boost, as it caused a lot of people to hear about this movie and gave them an added reason to go see it.

I haven't seen either one yet. I'm not a big fan of seeing movies in theaters.

I did see a review of Oppenheimer and it didn't sound like something I'd care much to see. I imagine Barbie is a more enjoyable experience and more worth my time, so I'll probably see it at some point. Might even see if I can find a Russian dub via a torrent site. I assume it is or will be showing in Russia either legitimately or illegitimately?

The real explanation of the "Barbenheimer" phenomena.

I've no intention of seeing either one of them in the theater. If I'm going to leave the house to see a movie, it needs to be a movie that absolutely requires a big screen. Although eventually I'll probably watch both on streaming.

Well, I'm glad I don't have to go quite so far just to watch Barbie if I so choose.

Same. I'll watch both. I like both actors (and particularly their DC movie roles). But I won't go the theater for it. The only trailer I've seen recently that tempts me to return to the theater is the new Ninja Turtles.

In my opinion, "Oppenheimer" was trash, a politically correct version of history attempting to make the standard political activist messages, a production by the progressive crowd. At least "Barbie" didn't have any pretenses.

Every single 40+ woman I know (republican or democrat) are all super excited for Barbie. This is the toy they grew up with. Even the ones that have seen reviews and know its a feminist virtue signaling extravaganza are still DYING to see it because the imagery is pretty awesome regardless of the plot. I'm happy to see its doing well.

Makes sense. I as a male member of that generation got excited when I first heard Transformers was getting the cinematic treatment (before being crushed by the low quality of what was ultimately released).

But one thing that's fun to me about this movie as a concept is that it also hearkens back to a pretty awesome little music video:

And I think I saw somewhere that it did contain at least one little reference to that. I forget what it was specifically now.

Yeah. Easy. I also was shocked when I first learned that the U.S. created concentration camps for its citizens.

There's no problem with that. Love whomever you want, especially considering the fact that today in the West, unnatural, from the point of view of nature, love is only welcome.
It's not about what you love or don't love. It's about the intellectual development of society.
If people admire this movie (box office receipts show this) it speaks about the level of intelligence of such a society.
The movie industry does what they want to see. And if a society has the one level of intelligence, then movies based on novels by Dreiser, Dostoevsky, Shakespeare, Goethe...etc. are in demand.
But if the level of intelligence is different, they produce movies about a doll. And the society with such intelligence is delighted.

I could be wrong..... I often am......
but Russians learn a lot from the game of chess...... Russians have a tendency to see how seemingly illogical or unimportant events have long term consequences that can be extremely important...... eventually.

The Cultural Civil War in the USA and Canada is interesting to the Russian people at all levels.........

..... I would guess that Putin is rather hoping that the extreme political left in the USA will LOSE BIG in this Cultural Civil War....... because what Biden has been doing is lose, lose, lose, lose, lose for Americans.... for Canadians.... for Russians.... and for all eight billion of us who live on this third rock..........

Surely..... some sanity will prevail soon in the USA and surely..... Biden will soon be indicted.... and / or impeached....... and more and more and more and more and more details about the flaws and sins of The Biden Crime Family will be revealed to the world........

... and the relationship between the USA and Russia can get back to being much more predictable than whatever it is that has been happening since January 20, 2021 when Biden and his team took over in the White House.......

Putin.... for all of his many, many, many, many flaws... .is a multi billionaire who would like to earn more and more and more and more billions....... but Biden and his team seem to be so irrational and manic that their behaviour seems to benefit NOBODY.............. was it a good idea to put lots and lots of biological research facilities in the Ukraine...... so near to Russia........ NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Will the war in the Ukraine lead to the exposure of Hunter Biden and then....
