Comprehensive testing on what students are taught--it varies by district and school--are more appropriate for many courses. The teachers should create and give the exams.

This presupposes we stop having unqualified instructors teaching STEM subjects. Frankly, I don't think the gym teacher, hobbled by age and wanting to have a classroom job, should be teaching history.

Trump is part of the sloth. He made a mockery of the Presidency.

It would be an odd double major.

I used to listen to Rush Limbaugh on the way home from an early golf game. I'd keep track of how long it would take for him to say something stupid. A minute or two was typical.

Can you be more specific? I have no idea what you are talking about and you libs rarely mention any specifics at all. When I think of Trump's Presidency, I think of no new wars, commitment from North Korea to cease nuclear weapon and ICBM testing (which has resumed under Biden), lower gas prices, lower inflation, no war in Europe, more secure borders, no blatant foreign violations of US airspace, no Russians shooting down our multimillion dollar aircraft...establishment of the Middle East "Abraham Accords"...
All I want from a President is to keep my family safe and prosperous. I just listed SPECIFIC THINGS of how Trump did that.
So... do you have any SPECIFICS to show how he "made a mockery of the Presidency"???

No more than your suggestion of the gym teacher teaching history.

If kids aren't smart enough to have skills to starter jobs, then it's the parents fault.
Nope.
Parents are responsible for kids and work ethics.
Not schools.

And just making this claim without any proof is an easy answer that requires not much thought.

I read the OP and see no trend line in the OP.
Just another thread about Chicago and Baltimore. Where the OP uses cities that have a lot of people that are not white.

Can you post that trend line?
I am an engineer, I use trend lines all the time. So, what trend line are you referring to?

The basics are reading, writing, and arithmetic.
Not to learn how to work jobs.

does not explain why does not and cannot explain why 9 in 10 kids in some districts are performing well below grade level.

Absurd. Standardized testing doesn't teach you calculus it reveals whether or not you have learned calculus.

Nonsense. What these other countries have is discipline. China has been doing standardized testing for longer than any other country in the world millennia.

China is not a model we should be following on anything. They have to send their kids abroad for college.

The have over a billion people, most of them aren't very well educated.

For starters, CRT is not being used in primary or secondary schools. So, you can't blame that, can you. Gender Studies is also not taught generally, but only in scientific/biology books, which is natural if you care to take a look. Second, other countries like Singapore, Europe, and most of Asia treat teachers far better than we do. In those countries, even democracies, they don't have the parents getting involved in politics or upset because their child is learning "evolution" and only "creationism" should be taught. Furthermore, these countries have made great stides in improving their educational standards, and it is almost treated like a religion. Here, we treat education as an afterthought and are more concerned with sports in those schools than the actual education. Sports, generally, is totally separate from education, and that education can be tough to pass.

The other problem is that we teach all children that they will go to college, and that may be where the real problem lies.

Most students have already worked for someone else--the work experience was an opportunity to job shadow. We gave them information about their legal rights and obligations as an employee, and their rights as a unpaid intern. (You might be surprised at just how many young people don't understand you're supposed to show up for work on time and ready to work.) I wrote a curriculum on how to look for a job and addressed the option of starting their own business.
They were told in no uncertain terms we expected them to treat work experience as a job.
I took care of horses from 10-13, was the gardener and scorekeeper for American Legion baseball when I was 14 and 15, and then clerked in a grocery store when I was 16. I was also a lifeguard.

Great post. Better school districts, like the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District where I attended school, don't argue over creationism and gender studies. These are well-to-do communities and parents don't want cultural wars chaos interfering with their child's education.
