That's not DC corruption, that's DC security.

    Congress should be responsible.

It does to me. Aren't you glad I think differently from you?

Clinton was never indicted for rape. Trump was. There was semen on the victim's dress, but Trump refused to take a DNA test.

I think it’s great you think differently. But saddened for you that you don’t have a good grasp of logic. Oh well, no one’s perfect. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

IMO, I have an excellent grasp of logic. Not that logic is an appropriate tool to apply here. Humans are not logical and the ordering of society need not be logical.

I just observe that humans prefer to live in homogeneous communities. I agree with Lee that common values and understandings are essential for the good society.

Having common values and understandings is not the same as wanting everyone to think the same exact way as each other in regards to everything. Said another way, even people who share the same values will still not think exactly the same about everything. That is impossible to achieve nor should we want to achieve that. Humans shouldn’t be robots who think and act the same way. How boring.

To say no to either. The lesser evil is still evil and subjectively arrived at.

You mean things like not committing crimes and treating others kindly and helping those who can’t help themselves? Of course I’m in favor of that. Only psychopaths and criminals aren’t in favor of such. :eyepopping:

It seems the left is not very concerned about crime, treat dissenters to their agenda badly.

I suggest you take that up with the individuals on the forum who you believe aren’t concerned about crime. Good luck.

Judge upholds the $5 million jury verdict against Trump in a writer’s sex abuse and defamation case

    BY LARRY NEUMEISTER
    Published 11:05 AM EDT, July 19, 2023

NEW YORK (AP) — A federal judge on Wednesday upheld a $5 million jury verdict against Donald Trump, rejecting the former president’s claims that the award was excessive and that the jury vindicated him by failing to conclude he raped a columnist in a luxury department store dressing room in the 1990s...

Kaplan wrote that the jury’s unanimous verdict was almost entirely in favor of Carroll, except that the jury concluded she had failed to prove that Trump raped her “within the narrow, technical meaning of a particular section of the New York Penal Law.”

I agree and see that as a driving force behind authoritarianism. See no shortage of it on both sides.

A very thoughtful response. I thank you.

You hit on the fact that the voting public by and large has little actual knowledge of government and the minutia of policy. A fatal flaw in democracy Socrates spoke of over 2,000 years ago and a flaw few today seem to be aware of.

As a former conservative (now an independent) I liked the idea of Trump draining the swamp but then became concerned by him filling it up with swamp creatures he liked. My dislike of the partisanship is what drove me to the political center. Partisanship serves authoritarianism and is the bane of democracy.

Can you define the deep state and do you believe it only exists on the left or only benefits the left?

Trump is guilty of much he has not been punished for.

The woman who accused Trump of raping her said his semen was on one of her dresses. Trump refused to take a DNA test.

If a woman accused me of raping her I would be in a hurry to take a DNA test to prove my innocence.

Dude since almost all of the cases are multiple decades in the past.a DNA test isn't going to help. And sorry a bunch of Democrat apparatchicks aren't believable.

Yet you buy every bit of obvious bunkum the government feeds you even after it is proven to be a lie.

The Deep State (also called the Administrative state) is just the regulatory and law enforcement arm of the Executive branch of the government.

The Executive branch is by nature the most partisan of the 3 branches of government since it's run by the President who naturally is elected to pursue his/her agenda. So far nothing really unusual about any of that.

The Legislative branch (Congress) is purposely structured to be quite bipartisan. In order to get anything done, you've got to reach across the aisle. And, therefore, they're supposed to create and provide marching orders and oversight to the Administrative agencies. That's the check and balance. But legitimate legislating is a career hazard since your name is out there for all to see and your butt can easily be thrown out if you stray too far from the desires of your constituents.

So the solution became to stop legislating and simply create the alphabet soup of acronym agencies and fund whatever they want to do. And the nature of career agency folks is to always look for "problems" that must be overseen and managed to the tune of ever increasing budgets. The final piece became Harry Ried's famous removal of the super majority requirement in the Senate in order to pass spending bills. Witness Biden's "Inflation Reduction Act". Nothing real bipartisan about it although the difference between conservative and progressive is that progressives are about moving forward while conservatives would be more inclined to the proven. However, in both instances self preservation is the real motivator. And corruption is an equal opportunity political instinct. Just a massive spending bill which is now driving inflation and moving the country evermore to being Venezuela- The Sequel.

And the whole mess is not necessarily left or right. DC's up to its arse in uselessness in a fully bipartisan fashion. It's really earned the name of the Swamp.

As you noted with Socrates, Thomas Sowell has a famous quote about how democracy only lasts until people figure out that they can vote to get free stuff for themselves.

Again, keep your eye on Loper. It stands to be an epic shiite show that actually saves us.

    Hope this helps.

The joke at the time was

“They did a survey of American women and asked “Would you have an affair with Bill Clinton?” And 60% replied “Not again”
