Ohio police release video of fatal shooting of pregnant Black woman

Just tragic! 2 lives taken. Should they have aimed for the tire and not her?

 

She used her car as a weapon. Sad, but the outcome was inevitable.

 

Still tragic.

We had a similar local case in which two teenagers stole a car and went joyriding. The police boxed them in and when one of the cops got out of his car to drag them out, they gunned the engine and lurched the car toward the cop. Immediately every cop on the scene opened fire. These knuckleheads doing stupid s--t put other people's lives in danger as well as their own. Both of these incidents blew up as small issues into real tragedies because...crooks are stupid.

 

Since the fetus is now a “child” does this mean the cop gets charged with killing an innocent person?

 

In the title and first sentence of the story they sure wanted us to know she was black. Why?

I don’t know how I feel about this shooting. The woman could have avoided it and the cop had options. I guess if he felt his life was threatened then it could be justified.

 

That murder would fall on the mother.

 

yep, never move the car if a cop stands in front of it, if they do that, they're just looking for a reason to kill you, and they legally can, so don't do it

Clean shoot. A vehicle is a deadly weapon. Just like you can’t point a gun at a cop or make a stabbing motion with a weapon. The cops is not obligated to wait to die before defending him/herself.

Sorry. No sympathy here. Also don’t care what color she was. Don’t give a crap. You resist arrest or fail to listen to basic simple instructions, accept the consequences.

Leftists want to turn the entire nation into SF where no one even cares anymore about stealing. They want the entire nation to feel comfortable attacking cops for no reason just like they think it’s OK to rob anyone you want without consequences. Just more anarchy.

The engine should not have been running, much less in drive. That displayed intention.

 

yep, standing in front of a running car is not smart, but it does give a cop permission to kill if the car moves

 

I have issues with this shooting but not necessarily technical ones. It does not appear if she was really ramming the officer or his life truly was in danger she was moving so slow. That only one officer fired and only one shot and the both ran along beside it until it hit the building suggests to me that he could have easily moved out of the way had he really wanted. That is not to say that I think she was acting lawfully or even rationally, but the police could have reasonably avoided the need to use lethal force so far as I can tell had they really wanted to. I mean this was a shoplifting investigation, not the most serious of crimes out there.

 

So can anyone that can own a gun. Using a car like that makes it a deadly weapon

 

nope, if one stands in front of an ex's car and prevents her moving, and she starts to move, and they point a gun, they're going to jail if they shoot or not

I can not think of any situation a citizen could intentionally block someone from moving and shoot like that - that is a right only cops have

 

The only reason the OP posted this story, and the only reason it ran on national news, is because she was black.

Here's a fun fact for you. Cars weigh thousands of pounds and if someone attempts to run you over with one it can kill you

 

yep, but I would still not recommend a citizen intentionally block a car and kill the driver if they move towards them - only cops get away with that

 

I understand and support police blocking the path of a violent offender, but I cannot support blocking the path of a car driven by someone accused of shoplifting. Seems unnecessary. I think the tactic needs to be reviewed.

 

What does that mean? There should be no attempt to apprehend a shoplifter?
