Well how about I look at you and I tell you that this oak tree over here is actually a cat and that you can't tell me any different unless you have some sort of degree and special oak tree versus cat transgender issues?

It's pretty simple because if you are born with a penis and a ball sack this makes you a male and if you're born with a vagina and ovaries this makes you a female.

And then you have those that look downstairs and they're confused about what it means and you have people like you that say well it's really not a clear science...

I'd need an example in order to decide. So when you find one, let me know and we can have a further discussion. I know that I see plenty of people proudly displaying the flags of the countries their ancestors came from. That seems completely fine.

 

So you're comparing the complexity of the human mind to that of the difference between a cat and a tree?

 

Maybe that's the case for whatever definition of "social justice" you have in your head, but academically it has a lot to do with the consequences of hate and intolerance. And that includes the LGBT+ community.

Someone can feel like they're a woman but if they're not physically a woman they will never be a woman.

Context is important. I understand you want to strip that out, but it matters. What's the history of this white pride flag? What's the makeup of the school and class? Nothing exists in a vacuum.

And I disagree that the presence of a flag is "pushing ... personal beliefs." If it is, though, it's the belief that LGBT+ students are welcome. In general, I'm fine with displays that reflect a teacher's values, so long as they don't create a hostile or disruptive learning environment.

 

I can't tell if you're deliberately misrepresenting it or not, but either way it's clear there isn't a productive conversation to be had. Please feel free to have the last word to make a childish or further misinformed comment.

Symbols only mean what people want them to mean. A simple "All are welcome" message does not require a symbol. This is not private property. I don't want teachers using their influence to push their beliefs on my kids, even if I agree with the belief. If I support one, i have to support all. I don't want teachers pushing their politics or religion on students. I experienced it many times.
