Which is sad because they are still getting fed into garbage degrees like womyn's studies, and gender studies, and the result of that is way too many women and men being unhappily single and narcissistic and walking about miserable with a chip on their shoulders that could capsize a battle ship and is all but certain capsize any relationship in which they try to engage.

:Last I checked 15 dollars an hour is 50% than 10 dollars an hour. And some idiot in the CA state assembly is now wanting to raise it to fifty an hour. Obvious to me we have more people engaged in filling out compliance paper work than making stuff and that among other things is why our production has been headed to china.

It's hilarious. California's aiming at $50 hamburgers. California has gone crazy. I was lucky enough to escape 7 years ago. I left because of the highest state income taxes in the nation, the Draconian gun laws, unsafe streets, housing costs, and more. But new initiatives like the one you note have moved the conditions in California from unbearable to downright silly.

We shouldn't be overcharging for liberal arts programs. We should focus financial support for employment skills our economy needs. Our immigration laws should set us up to get talent from all over the world.

Asset values are absurdly high and now we add the price we often over charge for a university education? Look st home prices...

    upload_2024-2-24_12-47-38.jpeg

This is what's happened to the S&P 500.

    upload_2024-2-24_13-32-37.png

We've had a huge wealth transfer in the past four years to asset holders.

More than a decade of QE have separated Stocks and bonds from the rest of the economy, Wall Streets connection to the rest of the economy has been rather tenuous it is now all but non existent with so many companies holding overseas properties.

Note many of the asset holders control huge amounts through the management of 401Ks for the employees of companies large and small.

    You've got MTG.
Too much toothless regulation with look-the-other-way enforcement. Useless bureaucracy.

Some people struggle with anything complex.
    Good genes?
My father-in-law was a Missouri farm kid. He became a test pilot.

My father-in-law grew up in the boonies in Arkansas H almost bragged about the dirt floor in the family hovel. He retired as a Marine Lieutenant Colonel and went to work as a broker for Merrill Lynch... lived next to Bob Hope in Palm Springs until Bob built the big new house in Palm Desert.

No, not the same. We'll soon be at the point where training and supervising workers will cost more than replacing them with machines, even if they'd work for nothing.
Why would I "worry?" I'm not going to be here for the future we're screwing up.
Supposedly educated people who fail to see a future they'd rather ignore bother me.
I didn't need the money so I could make a career of teaching despite the low pay.
Works great if you're smart enough to pull it off. What do you suggest we do with people who aren't?
    Engineers make $100,000 a year.

    https://www.mtu.edu/engineering/outreach/welcome/salary/

    So does a hospital RN.

I would never be satisfied making $100,000 a year.

So, then, what was your point about Uvalde cops about? Do you think they did enough to save those kids? I don't.

I agree with you. I have participated in the FBI active shooter training and before that-at the place where some of the current tactics and protocols were created-the Tactical Defense Institute in SE Ohio as both an instructor and as a student. What happened there was contrary to the protocols then in place at the time.

If the degree has a market value, we might see our way to support it, too. We could probably use more clinical psychologists .

Capital markets are rigged in favor of people controlling large holdings. What else is news?

I don't have a Sky Daddy Imaginary Friend. My background in computers, economics and technology are the "voices" I hear.
Since you have a background in ways of killing people when the need arises, you must have given at least some thought to the possible impact of technologies of mass destruction, including nanotech and biotech. Your offspring might not be here if we don't take action to make it less likely someone will unleash doomsday technology.
    Not always.

What are we going to do with the 25% of people with IQs below 90? They're not material for most skilled trades.
Do you have any evidence to support your claim? Not many sources online support your views.
You figure I should set my sights lower? I make a lot more than that off investments in retirement.

You asked why would someone major in art history. Because you have talent and can make a good living selling your skills or, possibly, you were misled by a teacher when you didn't have the ability.

Society needs philosophers, historians, journalists, poets, and psychologists, just not as many as we turn out. If we end up with a shortage of any skill, we can help people to obtain that capability.
