People who can't think past their nose forget to realize mass murderers and serial killers use a variety of ways to kill humans. Vehicles driven into crowds, arson on an occupied building, knives, strangulation, poison, homemade bombs, etc. It's not just the guns, it's deranged humans. I've had guns and bullets around my home all my life and they have never injured a single person. We need harsh penalties for murderers that are so gruesome that the next person will think twice before killing an innocent person. Yes, show the injured victims but also show the perp getting his punishment. We need anger towards the perp. Seems Mellencamp can only focus on inanimate objects while ignoring the criminals.
    ---

Famed “Jack and Diane” singer John Mellencamp reacted to the Kansas City Chiefs parade shooting by calling for more gun control and urging news outlets to “be brave enough” to publish photos of slain children.
Mellencamp used a post to X to say: “Excuse me for stating the obvious truth. I do so out of love for this country and the pain of learning, once again, that children have been killed by gun violence. If we as a country want to find the collective will within ourselves to change our gun laws, let’s stop playing silly political games.”
He then pressed for the crime scene photos of slain children and others: “Show the American people the dead children and others who have been struck down. Show us what guns and bullets can do to the human body.”

When people speak of "gun" violence, they are not opposing killing- only killing by gun. Apparently not concerned with knife violence of the use of any of the thousands of things that can be used as weapons by violent people. You are absolutely right here, and sadly the truth is completely obvious to anyone willing to look at it. Guns do not kill people. They do not load themselves, aim themselves, or pull their own triggers. ONLY PEOPLE do that. And people who would kill will have always had weapons available, back to the time where rocks were the weapon of choice. Soon, we may have laser disruptors that vaporize victims. Then the gun will fade away as the weapon of choice, but the murders will continue.

If you took away my guns how would that influence or effect gun violence? Hell lets go whole-hog, if you took away every gun from law abiding owners how would that influence or reduce gun violence?

Going out on limb here, I'm going to guess your next ridiculous narrative will be "Criminals will not be able to B&E and STEAL guns from law abiding gun owners" :)

    Emphasis, CRIME/CRIMINALS :)

Thats been on the table for a 100+ years! The Grubmint have a great deal of intel on where the most gun violence and criminals with guns live, why have they not demonstrated their resolve there.. Better yet why haven't folks like you DEMAND that these areas be polices and gun confiscation be enforced with a top priority?

Since mass killers are not going to follow gun laws anyway, we should make it easier for them to get guns. The state of Maine did not have a red flag law and did not have a thorough background check system when a man who had already shown himself to be mentally unsound and had been investigated by the Army, the State of New York, and the State of Maine. He was well know in the community as a dangerous person; a red flag law might have saved 18 lives.
There are other things that can be done instead of "grabbing guns"

Do you know how much killings are reduced by people using guns to protect themselves from killers?

You don't know how many killings are prevented by people protecting themselves (because no one knows that). So there's no way you know it will be not as much as taking guns. You are making statements that neither you nor anyone can back up with hard data.

I've been told that doing that is unscientific.

BOSTON | Federal agents zeroed in Tuesday on how the Boston Marathon bombing was carried out - with kitchen pressure cookers packed with explosives, nails and other lethal shrapnel - but said they still didn't know who did it and why.
Scores of victims of the Boston bombing remained in hospitals, many with grievous injuries, a day after the twin explosions near the marathon's finish line killed three people, wounded more than 170 and reawakened fears of terrorism. A 9-year-old girl and 10-year-old boy were among 17 victims listed in critical condition.

    ---
Kitchen pressure cookers, or nails, don't kill people, nor do guns and bullets.

That didn't work in Mexico. Hell, it hasn't worked in California, either.

Thanks for being honest about it, though.

Maybe closing open borders might help a lil ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You mean like we take away illicit drugs to prevent drug related deaths.

We can stop people getting shot just how we stopped people from taking drugs.... If we just make guns illegal no one will get shot anymore.
