Saturday is a huge day for all of you boxing and mixed martial arts fans out there. In the boxing world, David Haye (25-1, 23 KOs) who is the current WBA heavyweight champion will be fighting Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KOs), the current IBF, IBO, and WBO heavyweight champion. Lots if smack talk between these two guys over the years, and it's finally time to see which one can back it up. In the mixed martial arts world, we have a highly anticipated rematch between two warriors. Urijah Faber will be challenging Dominick Cruz for the 135lb UFC title. Look for fireworks in this one. In a 185lb match, Vanderlei Silva will be back in action against an always tough Chris Leben. Great weekend for fight fans! Anyone going to be watching?
and miss the Firecracker 400?...there's nothing like night racing. More to the point...I've seen Faber fight, isn't he past his prime?
I don't think he's past his prime, so to speak. He's only 32, coming off two big wins and was fighting at 145 lbs. He made the cut to 135 for this fight and from what he's saying, he feels much faster than he did at 145. He's always in exciting fights so it should be a dandy.
I know I know Haye is trying to sell tickets and PPVs, bit I've never seen anyone talk so much smack. If he gets creamed by Klitschko he's going to look extremely stupid (outside of his multi million dollar payday)
If Haye is dumb enough to stand in front of Klitschko for more than 2 secs, I'd say he's out of there by the 4th round.
I don't want to count Haye out, because he is a very good boxer with a speed advantage. It's just that he should be fighting at cruiserweight. He's never faced a big man like Klitschko before. Hes no Ruiz. I'm curious to see his game plan come Saturday.
We'll see in the first few moments of the fight if he'll do well. If he can slip Vlad's jab and counter him, he has a chance. Vlad's entire offense is built around his long reaching jab. If he can negate that, he stands a very good chance of winning. The only other strategy I think could work is to swarm Vlad whenever he's in range. To basically get off first quickly, then get out of the way immediately to avoid a counter. I don't think he has the chin to take a Klitschko shot so he better be as fast on defense as he is on offense.
it look like the british african guy will give klitcho a good fight although klitcho is a really good boxer so this would not be a bet
Definitely. I want to see what Haye's actually has. I would love to see him take out Vlad because it would make the division at least a tab bit more interesting. You?
Yep, I'll be watching. Normally I would pick a good UFC event over anything else, but good HW boxing matchups are hard to come by these days. I've got a few friends coming out to watch as well. Frying up some walleye and perch I caught last week, cold beer on ice, and a great fight - a perfect Saturday on paper. Plus the wife is out of town so I can scream at the TV without getting the evil eye
Haye was able to slip the jab with ease, the problem was he wouldn't go to the freakin' body! WTF is wrong with this guy? He could have beaten if he actually committed to a body attack each time Wlad put his arm out there to jab him. I was really disappointed with Haye and his tactics.
Oh I know... I was just hoping, with all the trash talking, that this fight would've lived up to the hype... epic disappointment...
No kidding. What a joke. At least the UFC event was great. I think it's about time Wanderlei Silva hangs up his gloves, he's been put to sleep far too many times in the last few years.
Viciously KOed under a minute into the fight. When he finally woke up he thought the referee was his opponent and tried tying him up.
The WEC was awesome when it was played on Versus. Now that the UFC has "merged" with the WEC via a hostile takeover, everything is pay-per-view except for the absolutely crappiest fights. I refuse to pay to watch the UFC ever again.
