You're really on the wrong site to be asking these sorts of questions. Go to a Christian forum and you'll get much more constructive answers. All you will get here is smarmy comments from non-believers and false impressions from modern day pharisees. Read the first half of Romans, which explains that the Law was used to condemn and make people aware of their sin, but now we have the Holy Spirit to convict us of sin. THAT is why the law has been fulfilled through Christ.
I didn't know that. But then you have to go through all the hassle of finding out which Church is the correct one; I mean there are so many different denominations based on the many interpretations out there. When I was a Christian, I just made it a personal thing.
Actually baptism is the great unifier between faiths. We Catholics consider all baptized Christians to be our brethren. It has always been the way that Christians identified themselves and took a stand for Christ.
I agree with you on that as a Christian. Quoting Leviticus is silly for Christians on that issue (and most others).
What do you consider un baptized Christians to be? Condemned to eternal hellfire, or some such nonsense?
Is that why there are so many Catholics who preach that all prostestants will burn in hell for not following the Catholic Church?
Daggdag, you never pass up any opportunity to look foolish. I have to admire your tenacity for public humiliation. The Catholic Church does not at all teach that all protestants will burn in hell. Protestants are in union as fellow baptized Christians, but not in communion with the Holy See. Your ignorance knows no bounds.
First of all, I never said that all Catholics were like that, but I know for a fact that there are a good number of them who are...
Personally, I think you're full of (*)(*)(*)(*). Catholics don't teach or believe that, not in any number.
Tell that to my neighbor and his family who have, more than once damaged property in my neighborhood over religios differenced...In fact, his son used spray paint to write "False Christians must die" on my garage.....
They must be old. As long as I can remember (I'm 45, raised in the post-Vatican II church), the Catholic church has not been teaching the whole Protestants are going to hell stuff. I know it has been taught, but it was wrong. Here is the official teachings of the Church on the subject: http://www.vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/p123a9p3.htm
Soooo baptism isnt required for salvation. Just required to be included among the brethren of the Catholics.
From my readings, physical baptism isn't required for salvation in all cases. My general view (not a 100% orthodox view) is that the sacraments aren't needed by God for us to have salvation. However, sacraments are good things for us to do. They give us an outward sign that we are eligible for salvation. To paraphrase Jesus speaking about the sabbath--man wasn't made for the sacraments, the sacraments were made for man. The only thing I trust in is that God is just. From the Catholic Catechism:
I dont doubt that Catholic doctrine requires baptism for salvation in most situations. But that is Catholic doctrine, not Christian doctrine, not biblical doctrine. Just as the Holy Roman empire, the crusades, the inquisitions, all catholic doctrine having nothing to do with Christian doctrine.
Of course it's a Christian doctrine. There is no definitive Christian doctrine that all denominations agree with on this.
The bible is the only definitive Christian doctrine. Baptism, required for salvation, the Holy Roman Empire, the inquisitions and the crusades, all catholic doctrine.
True.. that's why there are 1400 different Protestant sects. If Christians followed the OT.. we'd probably be practicing polygamy.
Oneness Pentecostals require baptism for salvation (among other groups). The sign that the baptism has been effective is that the person can speak in tongues.
Polygamy, like slavery, existed in the Old Testament but was never blessed by God. In fact, those who practiced it, including Abraham, David, and Solomon faced judgement for it. If God approved of Polygamy then God would have created Adam and then he would have created Eve, Dolores, Rachel, Agnus, Bridget, Fay, and Betty Ann. God set the correct model from the beginning. One man and one woman in holy matrimony, wholly devoted to themselves and free from the bonds of slavery. Deviations from this model were man's idea and should not be blamed on God.
