Hellow! I'd like to tell about russia. Because some things, wich I read are not fully correct. If anybody will have questions, I can answer. So, about poor people drinking vodka in strange heats with balalayka (kind of guitar) - its only for tourists. In cities living normal people. They are working, and getting money. Not one dollar a day - on the streets many cars. New cars. Its heavy traffic. And I am not from Moscow. Shops are full of food and other things. May be it will be interesting to listen some digits? I am 27 years old I finished two university. Now working on computer support of small factory. my salary - about $1200 every month. Some times we have bonus. And medical insurance from our employer. I have car from Korea. And thinking about buying flat. Flat coasts from $40 000 . If you want know about elections - they are not fully democratical. Wich digits goverment wants, so they show. No one from me or my friends vote for United russia party. But teachers, police and goverment workes - vote for them. it was a kind of order for them. people not satisfied - may be because some nesessary things are not done. Like bad roads, bad medicine without insurance, fuel prices more than in USA. But people affraid of changes - if will be new president, it may me worse than now. Like with Gorbatchev. So for me - protests are for our goverment, so they shoud work harder, without coruuption. PS Why I wrote it? I want to listen points of view from other people, and to practice in english. If you do not mind. Best Regards.
I have a little bit questions to you: What's about: 1. Crime? 2. Corruption? 3. Destroyed Manufacturing? Thanks in advance. BTW do not forget that dumb Yeltsin ruled only eight years, your Putin has had enough time to correct all Yeltsin's failures.
All three topics the American media refuses to talk about. Really, take these topics and place them next to America. You will find plenty of each. Oh, and add another one, DEBT.
As long as you obey Putin. If not you get arrested http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=CNG.5ac8cc19445558189357128508908e39.4d1&show_article=1
There was a time with no unemployment, no prostitution, no drug abuse, no rampant crime, no huge wealth to oligharchs, no child beggers in metro stations and little corruption. Now you have progress.
That's generally the case in all major dictatorships. And I'd disagree with you about no corruption. The Soviet Union's leadership were notoriously corrupt.
Mitrokhin had pushed back metal barriers placed there by police If he, as an OWS "protester" did that in the US? Can you answer such a simple question?
We are reading about today's Russia, not about the USSR... it is about a great departure from the rule of democracy, about a great progress made by Putin and Russians towards the rule of law and personal freedoms; and all of that in a bloodless manner...
There was a time with no unemployment, when russians used to say, -We pretend that we are working and they pretend that they are paying. little corruption? Marxism and socialism is 100% corruption. Now there is quite a lot of corruption. prostitution, drug abuse, rampant crime, huge wealth to oligharchs, child beggers in metro stations were inhered by Putin after 10 years of the rule of democracy in Russia. Now we are listening to a 27 years old with 2 Master's degrees, decent purchasing power of his salary as a possible and accessable choice for his generation, Putins generation.
In the comparison to Yeltsin's democracy we have a progress of course. But in the comparison to Yeltsin's democracy only.
You made a good start and suddenly afraid. But here that's tradition - make so welcome for beginners .
Americans like to paste labels to other countries. Especially to communists. I read somewhere that according to the American ratings China is considered as one of the most corrupt countries. In fact it is funny if you know that Chineses shoot bribe takers. For your information there were laws which were respected in the USSR. So for larceny from the state treasury 50 thousands roubles (about 70 thousand dollars according to the exchange rate of that time) was provided death punishment as shooting.
In the U.S. there is no corruption, just a little, only in government of the United States "MURDOCH THE BUSH FAMILY EMPLOYER: As Slate reports, Murdoch "put George W. Bush cousin John Ellis in charge of [Fox's] Election Night vote-counting operation: Ellis made Fox the first network to declare Bush the victor" even as the New Yorker reported that Ellis spent the evening discussing the election with George W. and Jeb Bush. After the election, Fox bragged that it attracted 6.8 million viewers on Election Night, meaning Ellis was in a key position to tilt the election for President Bush" http://www.americanprogress.org/issues/2004/07/b122948.html

The OWS broke laws and trashed public property they threw a smoke bomb over White house fence. So your argument is false. It appears Putin is making excuses to arrest the opposition. Typical for a former KGB
