Well, it was a no-brainer to buy certain oil company and defense industry stocks, as well as gold, before the 2000 election, eh? Might as well cash in on the easy stuff, rather than do something useful; that's the whole point of financial capitalism, speculation, not producing anything, which is too much like real work.

Buying gold is also a no-brainer, since the Reagan era, in any case. It's too high now,of course, or rather, the dollar is worth too little, to make it profitable, but it is still a good hedge.
