And the next 24% most fortunate pay the remaining 12.7% of total income tax.

In this regard, President Obama is rejecting a long standing liberal tradition of separating church and state. Why is it that folks are being selective as to whether or when to uphold the 1st Amendment?

Then deal with rationality. The 1st Amendment prohibits an establishment of religion by the state. President Obama will necessarily disregard this if he implements a religious commandment by law.

I couldn't disagree more. The President rarely invokes religion, and when he does he is voicing a common progressive vision of how we would like our faith to impact public policy. There are alot of us, and many of them sit in the pew next to you on Sunday.
The previous president pushed his faith in our faces constantly, made it almost a daily public spectacle, which Jesus chided the Pharisees for. Obama primarily makes his faith his personal journey, and occaisionally comments on it in public. The event of the prayer breakfast seems an apropos opportunity.
I find it interesting that the right wing Christian finds it acceptable to bring their faith into the policy arena when discussing someone's reproductive rights or sexuality, but when it comes to the economy that is hands off. Where you put your treasure is where your heart will be. Why so covetous of the cash, kids?

 

I didn't hear him say he wanted to implement any rligious commandment BY LAW (unlike the extreme right who want to implement their religious commandment on women and gay people by law!)

What i heard him say is that those having been given much have much togive, and that this falls well in line with Christian beliefs.

Can you argue that?
