Point 2: The cases that conservatives cite as somehow equivalent to Limbaugh's tirade against Fluke by and large did bring consequences for their authors.

After David Letterman for example made an ugly joke about Sarah Palin's daughter, he delivered an abject seven-minute apology on air. (To which Palin responded by refusing the apology and insinuating that David Letterman was a child molester.)

When liberal talker Ed Schultz nastily called my dear friend Laura Ingraham a "slut" on his radio show, MSNBC responded by suspending Schultz for a week without pay from his TV show. Schultz likewise apologized in person on air. (Ingraham accepted the apology with grace and humor.)

 

It's not common knowlege how radio advertising works, and it's pretty complicated actually...but there is more Rush needs to worry about than ratings......and that is.......

Regional perceptions.

Even if Rush still has advertisers, and still has high ratings, local outcry can cause an individual station to stop carrying the broadcast. That's why Fox had to lose Glenn Beck, but of course Glenn Beck started losing ratings.

In all likelyhood, Rush will probably not lose any stations...but he's done serious damage to the November GOP campaign, which was going to rely heavilly on "religious freedom". Now any old men who rail on about contraception, are going to look like prudish old chauvanists picking on defenseless girls.

Now, without the religious freedom angle, and DOW over 13,000, with unemployment dropping a bit, the only thing left is gas prices, and that is easilly turned back on the oil business, and other countries.

 

I did condemn what he said, he is a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing dick head for saying that, as is Bill Maher for saying the exact same thing about Palin. Can you post for us, any liberals condemning what Maher said? I will wait for your response, which won't happen in my lifetime I'm sure. Hey, maybe since you liberals claim to have such contempt for the denigration of women, maybe you can post the sponsors that bailed on the Maher show? What do you want to bet there are none? Liberals bull(*)(*)(*)(*) hypocrisy one more time.

How quickly the lefties forget the beating they gave Palin AND her family, including the 3 yr old DS toddler - now that was at the bottom of the sewer, but the blood thirsty vultures didn't think anything of it, feeling so proud of themselves.

I don't get to listen to Rush due to working... but I am going to guess that his show will have NO ISSUES filling up each and every advertising spot.

Anyway, why would anyone expect conservatives to condemn Limbaugh for this? Judging from what they say here, I'd have thought they agreed with him.

 

These advertisers will leave and others will fill in the void. His sheep will continue to listen and AshleyMadison and every sleazy Gold4Cash place on earth would love to have those listeners.

 

"Huff" on this...Rush will get more advertisers and even with a drop in advertising, he has enough money to float his broadcast for years without revenue. This too will pass and he knows it.

You know maybe it was high time that Limbaugh suffers consequences for his actions. He has been making inappropriate attacks for decades. He did attack a private individual for having the audacity of having a differing opinion. The whole purpose of the attack was to make her and other women who might express similar opinions to shut up.

My my... how conservatives love playing that victim card. You'd think that they were liberals. Heavens forbid if any of them are held accountable to any kind of personal responsibility.

This incident has the potential to spew blowback on the GOP

People might not know what Rush says all the time, but they do know he commands fear amongst the GOP in Washington, and he is percieved as a leader in the GOP.

 

For one thing, it helps to give that arrogant, hateful "person" (I am trying not to fall into his gutter!) a reality check. . .it should at the least bring down his delusion of grandeur. . .unless he is truly suffering from a mental illness!
