    TMZ has footage of "Kony 2012" honcho Jason Russell in the midst of his naked meltdown in San Diego ... pounding his fists in anger and screaming maniacally. [UPDATE: TMZ has obtained a close-up video from Russell's meltdown. CLICK HERE to see.]

    As we previously reported, Russell was detained by police yesterday ... after witnesses say he was running around naked and making sexual gestures.

    Russell was held on a 5150 psychiatric hold ... so authorities can decide if he poses a danger to himself or others.

    A rep for Invisible Children says Russell was suffering from exhaustion, dehydration, and malnutrition as a result of a strenuous PR campaign.

    Is this a sign of drug abuse? Was he exceptionally overheated? Did he want publicity? This is a weird one any way you slice it.

    I had a heat stroke once and suffered from heat exhaustion several times, and I've never done any of the stuff that this guy did.

    The family says it's not drugs. I don't know why people say this. THe best thing you could say is that you were out partying and stupidly took a strange pill and you don't remember anything... Crazy night man.

    When they get naked, it's usually the drugs.

    drugs and a natural inclination to lasciviousness. But as always, it's considered a medical break down of some sort and it will all be better once badboy pulls a term in the mental hospital. ALL BETTER NOW so he can get back on that Democrat hay wagon.

    Jason Russel is an evangelical Christian.

    Not likely that he took drugs.

    People also do this kind of stuff with head injuries and cerebral events...
