Perhaps this is because science has become to specialized for anyone to just say "I want to know why X happens" anymore?

This is the most accurate answer. We do the best with the data we have but that doesn't mean we don't keep looking for answers and retesting theories that we previously took as fact. Look at global warming. It is a complex science and it is constantly evolving. That's what some right wingers don't understand. If there isn't a scientist out there questioning a particular area of science and doing new experiments then that area of science is dead. We must keep seeking more data and refining our understanding of the world. Right wingers see new data coming out challenging old theories and assume that it represents failure. Actually it represents success. It means the field is evolving and scientists are doing good objective work.

Objective? Only when Governments grants aren't involved. When science gets in bed with government it loses objectivity. It then becomes a tool to an agenda depending on the final outcome, which is exactly what happened with the Man made Global Warming scam. There was a single objective to be proven, then money thrown towards that goal.

The problem is when activists and special interests use such early findings to attempt to force the government to enact huge sweeping regulations and mandates that harm the quality of life of millions of people.

The worst part is that once such regulations are passed, the grants for research that may prove the original ideas wrong are often cut off in an attempt to keep from proving the bureaucrats wrong.

Changing scientific theories are fine. Individuals voluntarily changing their own lifestyles based on such theories is also fine. Forcing everyone else to change their lifestyles because of the latest science fad is unacceptable.

    Wait.

Someone discovered that eating mass quantities of fat and protein makes you feel good? What is next? Ice turns into water that turns into steam? The earth is round and not flat?

It is cutting edge science that states the blatantly obvious that I am all about.

Of course, massive quantities of red meat also lead to hypertension, heart disease, and cancer.

This thread is important because it proves one thing.

Liberals want to take away our right to eat hamburgers.

And they will succeed if we don't stop them.

Mayor Bloomburg is already doing this in New York, telling restaurants what food they are allowed to serve and how much salt they can put in it.

He even banned home-cooked meals in homeless shelters because it wasn't "government approved."

Isn't Bloomberg a Republican turned independent?

As someone accused of being a liberal, I could not possibly care any less what people eat. I find a bit of sick humor knowing that Americans are seemingly unable to stop killing themselves with food. It is as if the cause and effect just don't register with them.

Personally, I love red meat. Absolutely love a nice steak, cooked blue, leaking myoglobin. Awesome stuff.

However, I also look having low blood pressure and not clogging my arteries with plaque, so I eat read meat maybe once every two weeks.

I haven't read the first 3 pages of this thread... but jumped right in because it is something that my son asked me about a few days ago.....

He is in HS and trying to gain weight in order to play the sports he loves as well as he can and also probably because his GF wants him to get less scrawny.

As such, he is working out incredibly and also using whey protein and and other supposedly muscle and weight building supplements... but he also wants to eat something like 5 meals a day.

Because we are nuevo poor, the only red meat I can afford is usually ground chuck and so we eat stuff like hamburgers, meatloaf and hamburger helper lasagna(or other HH) about 3 times a week. We also eat cheap fish like tilapia and vietnam catfish a few times a week and then fill out the rest of weekly dinner menu with pork and chicken(when it goes on sale). We also have a half dozen turkeys in the freezer which we bought during the T-day sales and cook them when we run out of money before the next paycheck.

Anyway, he saw the news story on the red meat and came to me worried that we were killing him with our poor food.....

Since I have 20+ years in pharma and my wife has 20+ years in medical research, it was easy to debunk the crap being fed to the ignorant liberal yearning masses...

First, the research methodology is crap and as such only can suggest doing a prospective controlled study in the future.
Second, it is a great example of how statistics lie if you want them to do so. IIRC, less than 2% of the total old folk actually died... so if you reduce death by even 40%, then you ONLY reduced death in the total population by less than 1%. And, that result is only achieved if you make the other 99% eat crap they don't like as well as the meat they already eat.

Hope I remembered this study correctly, but if I did, then it is just another batch of forced media propaganda courtesy of the liberal extreme groups.

    I find this thread hilarious.

All the "red-blooded meat eaters" simply ignore the crucial point made in the article:

The beef in the USA is mostly limp-wristed girlie-meat, made for girlie-men who are trying to make themselves seem tough in their pink bloomers of pink-slime hamburgers and soft pink "steaks". This is especially true in Texas beef, which is the eunuch capital of girlie-beef raised and slaughtered by illegal aliens!

REAL MEN eat the REAL BEEF of Australia and New Zealand, or like myself, grass fed small herd beef that didn't laze about on antibiotics and hormones.

Please, keep eating your "girlie-burgers". It leaves more women AVAILABLE and HUNGRY for REAL MEN who eat REAL MEAT!

The problem with this is not that it is BS but that the media just went ahead and threw it out to our kids and everyone without any sense of a fact checking mechanism... apparently.

I love red meat, though staying away from hamburger till they start labeling packages with pink slim

as for not eating meat, I do not know if it will depress you, many vegetarians I know are full of energy and happy, so not sure I agree with the results here in this study, take away someone red meat that loves read meat and it may depress them ;)
