Bull(*)(*)(*)(*). They used the term tax-rate in an effort to convince their lemmings that the secretary paid more in taxes than one of the richest men in America. As if somehow, Mr Buffett never paid taxes on his earnings in the first place and was somehow getting over on people like his secretary.

When was this the argument? Because liberals want some people to pay a marginally higher tax rate, the next logical step is obviously send 100% of their income to the federal government!?!?!?! :confuse: Where do you guys come up with this stuff? You all should at least think about the talking points you are fed before regurgitating them!!

The article linked in your first post states his secretary pays taxes "at a higher rate" not that she pays more in taxes.

It's an easy mistake, and in fact I think a mistake Buffet and Obama are encouraging. Liberals want to get more money into the government. The only place they can think to collect more money is from folks with higher incomes, so they need an argument as to why those folks should pay more. They focus on "rate" rather than actual amount paid to make an argument that a group who are already providing most of the tax dollars government is somehow not paying enough.

It's verbal slight of hand creating the perception that the person who is paying much more dollars in taxes... is in some other way paying less than his secretary.

Um, this is what the story said:

President Barack Obama's secretary paid taxes at a higher rate than he did in 2011 despite having a "substantially lower income," the White House said Friday, casting the disparity as an argument for Congress to adopt the so-called "Buffett Rule."

"The president's secretary pays a slightly higher rate this year than the president on her substantially lower income, which is exactly why we need to reform our tax code and ask the wealthiest to pay their fair share," Amy Brundage, a White House spokeswoman, told Yahoo News by email.

They clearly and distinctly talked about the tax rate because the issue at hand is, you know, *THE TAX RATE*.

Your post is completely fabricated fantasy.

I didn't miss any boat. Sure, go ahead and pretend you missed all of those threads on Romney and Buffett that suggested that they paid lower taxes than their staff. That's the crux of the thread. That the WH and media willfully pushed the idea that because Romney and Buffett paid a lower rate that somehow they paid less taxes.

Then purposely forget that they paid a higher rate when they actually earned the money in the first place.

It appears from this thread the only folks who don't know the difference between "tax rate" and "taxes paid" are consevatives. See sec's posts.

We can prove our beliefs by our committal to them, and in no other way. If you don't believe in tax loop holes, DON'T USE THEM! To not do that makes you a hypocrite. Obama is obviously using one.

Feel free to cite the posts to which you are referring. I never claimed Buffet's secretary paid more taxes than Buffet, and can't imagine any rationale, informed person would say somthing that ludicrous.

So unless Obama pays more taxes than he's legally obligated to, he's a hypocrite. And so do you pay more taxes than you are legally oblgiated to, or are you a hypocrite?

    Of course.

Because it is a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing miscarriage of justice that guys like Buffet Romney Kerry Obama and anyone else you want to throw in there are paying lower tax rates than their (*)(*)(*)(*)ed secretaries.

I'm amazed people are not rioting in the streets when they see this.

Wrong, it was the liberals who first pushed the Warren Buffet pays less than his secretary B.S. Less rate, yes, but they want to give the public a grand illusion that the secretary somehow pays more in taxes than Warren. Total nonsense designed to drive class warfare and divide people. He should concern himself on what to do with a ballooning deficit, federal spending, and where all that stimulus money went, not to mention the economy and god forbid, JOBS.

Liberals often have the same issue when the discussion is not based around Obama, it seems like 80% of the population is willingly ignorant when it suits their agenda, and people wonder why we have such partisan hacks in office (hint: its because the people that elected them are also partisan hacks). It seems as if people on both sides of the isle have lost their ability to think without toting the party line.

I do not really like Obama's direction for the country but I cannot fault him for taking the maximum deductions possible. We need a system that is fair across the board which would mean no one paying a 0% or negative % tax rate and high incomes having a minimum tax rate.

    Not in the slightest.

The original argument was framed last year that Buffett paid less of a tax rate than his secretary. But they framed in such a way as to suggest that he paid less taxes. They also failed to inform their target audience that they were talking about two entirely different tax rates. One of income tax and one of capital gains.

Now they are trying to get the public to agree that it is a travesty and that the wealthy's tax rates need to increase to compensate for this "disparity". The problem is, they still aren't making a distinction between the two different forms of taxes.

71,684. That's how many pages are in the tax code. Perhaps we need to look at throwing out the old system that is rife with abuses and flat tax everything.

You can read sec's posts in this thread showing his confusion with tax rate and amount of taxes.

As to liberals, feel free to show any post of mine asserting that, and failing that, any liberals who said that. Anyone who said that Buffet's secretary paid more taxes than Buffet was completely uninformed.

Flat tax is a great idea. If you goal is to make the rich richer and poor poorer, which I believe is yours.

They are also paying a lower rate for their cheeseburgers than their secretaries. I imagine some would want to riot about that too.

In a country where we are all equal citizens, the miscarriage of justice is asking one man to pay more for the same rights and privileges his neighbor receives. More so when that neighbor receives them for free.

By a 60-37 percent margin, Americans support the Buffet rule. Glad Republicans are starting to come on board. Perhaps they should start trying to convince their Republican leaders to support the Buffet rule, or better yet, don't vote for them. Republican leaders cater to the desires of the very wealthy.

"Would you favor or oppose Congress passing a new law that would require households earning $1 million a year or more to pay a minimum of 30% of their income in taxes?"

    Favor: 60%
    Oppose: 37%
