So I hopped into my truck today to go get some food so I can make some excellent chicken alfredo. I turned on truck and guess who comes on the radio (if you're in suspense at this point you should probably just go to another thread). First thing he says, "Independents have no opinion." Yes according to Rush if you're not a 'left wing scoundrel' or a 'good American right winger' you have absolutely no opinion regarding politics. This really explains a lot of the opinions expressed on this board and why people are constantly categorized as a leftist or rightist based on whatever argument is going on at the time. To discount people who are not easily grouped into one of two narrowing fields of opinion is madness. This kind of opinion coming from Rush is also very telling of the beliefs the right wing holds being that he's basically the leader of the de facto Republican party. I would bet a good 10% of the nation take this mans word as gold and a higher percentage likely still agree with most of what he says. When he says really stupid things like "Independents have no opinion" at least 10% of the country will at that moment believe that Independent voters have no opinion. This is just madness.

So you listened to Rush for what.....twenty minutes?

Now you know all of his positions?

For the record: His opinions regarding Independents are very easy to define, and they are right.

Independents, according to Rush, are those among us who have no real compass. They wait to see what everybody else thinks to make up their mind. My wife is like this, she will not take a position before she knows how others think about it. She is the classic Independent.

I would say that if you subscribe to any team you've already lost. The people that blindly follow left or right politics are individuals that don't have the brain power and reasoning mechanisms to understand that most of the world is grey and it's wise to try and shift through things one topic at a time. But then again, we live in a country where education isn't a valued and the most popular shows on TV are 'storage wars' 'jersey shore' and a host of other garbage.

My mother was a republican and loved Reagan until she dated a democrat that didn't. LOL, like your wife, she changed her mind depending on the current thought at the time.

I am a registered independent but a Libertarian with specific views so I am considered a conservative. What Rush often talks about are "moderates".

I don't know all his positions and I'm not saying I do. What I am saying is that he's seriously misinforming a good percentage of the population. Of course it is their fault for listening to him and taking him seriously in the first place, but it still does a disservice to the nation as a whole. BTW his definition of an independent is completely wrong. I know a few people who do not classify themselves and believe me they have opinions about things. If you're looking for the herd mentality people look no further than the Democrat and Republican parties.

What if she's just waiting to hear what everyone has to say, first? On the theory that their thoughts might be valuable.

Well clearly you need to just go with what your party tells you to.

I was hoping to find some meaningful lyrics, coupled with prog rock awesomeness. :D Wrong Rush though...

I can listen to most conservative talk radio host and agree with much of what I hear, but it's all to be taken with a grain of salt. These guys are just pundits after all.
