The Vatican agency cited “sources” who said that extremist Islamist groups in the ranks of the Qusair rebels “consider Christians 'infidels,' confiscate goods, commit brief executions and are ready to start a 'sectarian war.' "

Maybe someone here can explain this to me.

Why are the US government and Saudi and Qatari monarchies funding and supporting these 'rebels'?

    Seriously!!! what is going on?

AQ flag to be flown above courthouses in Damascus and Allebbo next like they did in Libya?

Is that the next things we see where the wahabis with their cut throat swords behead any surviving Christian infidels? seriously what is the White House up to!!!!!!!

Are the Russians and Chinese the only SANE ones on the UNSC?

The American Govermnment is interested in Empire, not the survival of Christians. Are you really surprised?

but it's so schizophrenic the USA

one side of the mouth is saying we are fighting the war on terror and the other side is saying we are arming the Islamic Wahabi jihadists with missiles!

Seriously are the Russians and Chinese the only ones to stop these out of control maniacs in the White House from WW3?

perhaps rather than 'fleeing' the christians were leaving due to a hostile situation around them, lets face it wouldn't matter what religion you follow if your told that its alll about to kick off arround you and you had witnessed events leading you to comprehend the situation the vast majority would grab they're prized posessions and hop on the next available mode of transport there is out of there. Wonder how many islamic families decided to do the same.

For all we know it could have been possible that the mosques were offering friendly advice in realization of the situation.

With any luck once its over it will return to normal, and the original residents will be able to return.

As for the 'militants' bit pretty sure thats would have nothing to do with a religion wanting to out do another religiion it would be more to do with a lack of understanding of some individuals
    .

    - One could hope

"Why are the US government and Saudi and Qatari monarchies funding and supporting these 'rebels'?"

Has that been proven, or have you watched lord of war/war inc too many times?

Interesting read, although troubling to be sure.

    Thanks for posting it AS.

Not to make lite of your question regarding the U.S., as it certainly is worth asking... but the U.S. currently has a buffoon serving as Commander in Chief, completely inept leadership regarding evolving foreign affairs.

As you are perplexed, so are millions of average Americans.

    Take care

It is generally agreed by those who know anything about the matter (of which, alas, I'm not one) that all the minorities in Syria, especially the Christians, are clinging desperately to the President, whereas the rebels are subsidised by the country of Bin Laden and such. What exactly are the benefits of getting involved in another Arab civil war? Wasn't Libya a sufficient mess?

Perhaps, perhaps not. Debating that issue is of no interest to me. The world situation is different from 4 years ago.

Notice my use of the word "evolving" foreign affairs. Maybe I should have written rapidly evolving.

    Regards

The Sunnis in Riyadh and Doha see many benefits in deposing The Little Dictator. It's payback time in Syria...

It's all about Iran. If Assad goes -- the entire state will be beheaded, sort of speak of course.

In Egypt, for example -- there was a whole system in place, built around the vast Egyptian Army.

It is fair to say that in Syria you have the Assads -- and the ones who serve them.

Some sort of an Arab translation of Louis XIV's famous expression: "L'état, c'est moi".

If Assad goes, the new regime will be an utter chaotic one ~ thus, vastly weaken the sphere of influence of Iran.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Israelis were supplying the Syrian rebels.

Isn't it ironic that the US had to lie and lie and lie to justify its wars on Iraq and Afghanistan under the claim of "fighting Muslim terrorists", and now the US is supporting "Muslim Terrorists" in order to carry out it's administrative policy declared in 1991 as the Noahide Law which makes Christianity a crime punishable by decapitation.

Most so called Christians in Europe and America don't care that their government is slaughtering Christians (cutting their heads off) in Lybia and Syria, but that may change if their turn to deal with their beloved "Muslim Terrorists" comes up.

100% correct, but it isn't only the Israelis that are supplying them. Everyone knows its about weakening syria so they can eventually weaken Iran or if they have to invade iran.

Ah, Al Arabiya again, which came up with the still married after dead story. So are you a donkey or have you checked up on this story and if so how?

Is this the same source for your impression of how the US is acting in Syria or are you falling foul of your netfora which proved so unreliable previously?

How do you think those nations in favour of democracy and freedom best further that cause in the present situation in Syria?

So what has brought about a 180 degree course change since the toppling of Saddam with the strengthening of the Iranian sphere of influence?

IMO - its part of long term Israel + USA (AIPAC's puppet's ) strategy , to ensure Syria (on Israel's borders ) remains de-stabilized + militarily weak enough not to pursue their legitimate recovery of Golan heights or other devious future Israeli plans. .
