Bale says, "Words cannot express the horror that I feel. I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them." I heard this today while watching the news...do you know what my first thought was? "You're heart goes out to them? Maybe some of your money should be going out to them too!" After listening to this horrible tragedy, i needed to make myself laugh, and I was in a sarcastic mood anyway. ...so yeah. I just felt the need right now to share with you all why i'm going to hell. So when I meet you all there, you won't have to ask. I'm considerate like that.
That's a tough call, webrockk. Especially considering how movie ticket sales undoubtedly soared when Heath Ledger died before The Dark Knight hit theaters in the summer of 2008; you couldn't buy hype like that. Now in 2012, a mass murder on the midnight showing of the film's launch date? What a heck of a way to hype a film of this magnitude! Of course, when I went to see the film on opening day, after the massacre, all it left me with was a bit of sadness while watching the film and very little enjoyment overall. In place of what would have undoubtedly have been excitement in watching the movie, I was a bit bored by the pacing of the film and instead found myself nitpicking the plot points and special effects looking for mistakes. The acting was also a tad inferior to the previous film, and the main villain was rather ho-hum. I guess James Holmes as The Joker in real life kinda ruined it for me.
Oh yes, I would agree this film is going to get watched like none other...just as soon as all the paranoid moms out there let their kids step foot in a movie theatre. My feelings of sympathy and concern as far as this movie goes is the theatre that got hit(I mean outside of the obvious victims of course). A new theatre like that, no doubt counting on the business this movie will bring in, and they get a mass slaughter on the premiere night? And an ongoing investigation...with a massive cleanup and renovation to happen after that....who knows when they'll get back in business, and who knows what that business is going to be like... Maybe I just don't know enough about the theatre business, but from what I can tell, it really sucks to be the management of that theatre.
Methinks this incident will kill the box office returns, though it will probably turn a profit once it goes to DVD.
...on the other hand, I could be wrong. Let me put it another way: I think the numbers would be significantly higher if this tragedy never occurred.
Well, I certainly can't support that, Makedde. I'm one of those every man is responsible for himself or herself types. I was making a point that I'm certain he feels guilt--not that he should feel guilt. It's unavoidable. Just like the rock stars who just went out to play music and someone got crushed. You feel like if you hadn't done this, they would be alive. It's irrational, but people think that way.
I don't understand how anyone could that gainst him. Art is art, and nutjobs are going to be nutjobs. There's no way to predict what is going to set one off. There are so many wacked out people out there seeing subliminal messages in everything from the Care Bears to their bowl of Rice Crispies, no way can the movie be held accountable. "Movies don't create psychopaths, they make psychopaths more creative"~ Skeet Ulrich as Billy Loomis in Scream
Don't know why but I'm with you on this one. Probably because I'm put off going to the cinema in support of the victims (like how can you even begin to enjoy the experience when you know that that was also their plan). On the other hand, if you're a huge fan like me, you still want to see the film and in some way acknowledge that this was not the fault of the film-makers. They should not suffer unduly as a result. Although it's nowhere near the level of sacrifice of losing a life, why should the hundreds of people who contribute toward a giant production like this also suffer as a result of one man's lunacy? I'm talking about budding actors who've just landed their first major movie credit or new production houses (special effects, costumes etc.) who probably suffered financial losses just so that, in the future, they could say they were attached to the film release. The actual victims, rightly, should be our major concern right now but the ripples extending from something like this reach far and wide and there's only one person to blame.
seriously??? he should feel bad because some nutjob took a movie, or character of a movie, way too far???
I take back my earlier criticism of Bale as a person. While his attitude toward that DP is inexcusable, childish... like a typical Hollywood prima donna brat... Bale showed up at local Arora hospitals today personally to try and cheer up victims. No press... not all dolled up. Class move.
I just read that article on Yahoo, apparently he wanted to keep his presence away from the media. Off-topic: I never realized he was British.
What??? 80 lbs of muscle??? That's insane. Even on roids, I doubt it's possible. Anyways.....
I think it probably bothers Hathaway more than anyone. She seems to be a sweet girl, but, who knows? Batman, when it first came out for years was done for high camp. Now since this director took over, it has descended into a very dark place. It does affect some people in a negative way that are impressionable, no doubt. Darkness and pure violence seems to be celebrated now; it seems to be the thing in Hollywood now for the last few years.
Apparently he visited the memorial with no fan fare and people didn't know it was him until they compared pics later on Facebook.
