    It's all about balancing competing interests. And when you live in proximity to others, you have to acknowledge that your actions effect them. I live in a nice, quiet neighborhood. I don't want the guy next door putting up a body shop... he can do that out on the main strip where it's, wait for it.... ZONED COMMERCIAL. There are all kinds of city codes for just this purpose. Yes, some of them clearly do go too far--in Berkeley, CA, for example, you can put a fireplace into new construction. But we voluntarily live in proximity to our fellow citizens. Those of us who can't be constrained should move to the country... simple.

    And I really don't like having to look for a bathroom when I have to "do my business." Such an inconvenience. From now on I'll just start using the street... in front of Theunbubba's house for starters.

    Nice attempt at hyperbole. I would, however, agree with a law that says you can't open your fried chicken shack next door to my house in my quiet residential neigborhood. I know, I'm a total commie.

    No need to build another building. Hell just open it up in the old house. Knock down a couple walls, and set up shop!

    Don't worry about removing any of the debris either, just throw it out in the side yard between your new store and UnBubba's house. ;)

    ...just tell your customers to be careful of nails as they drive around to the side window for beer and hot dogs @ 3 AM (when the bars close)... wait!

    No it's really not different at all. She is either in violation of the zoning ordinance or she is not. That is how the law MUST look at it--dispassionately and without regard to what we may think of as being "good" or "bad." And if the township helps her then they have to help everybody. I'd prefer my fellow citizens take the time to get informed. This is BASIC stuff here -- civics 101.
