Is it clear the Jesus was prophesised in the Old Testament? Could it be another? Could some of the propehts been talking about someone closer to their own times instead of hundreds or thousands of years later??
Certainly a good question. As a Christian, I believe Jesus was the one, I'm pretty sure Muslims believe he was the Messiah as well but the Jews do not. I think hundreds of years is more likely than thousands though. But your question is directed to "closer to their (prophets) own time and I think the problem with that is there wasn't any mention of any other messiah. I think the Jews would have mentioned that if there was.
The new testament goes to great lengths to try to prove that Jesus was the messiah. People could argue on both sides pretty well, so in the end it all comes down to faith.
The Messiah prophesied in Chinese written language from 2500 BC. 亞 Ya, asia http://www.politicalforum.com/religion/266486-jesus-christ-god-china-since-2500-b-c.html
No, it isn't clear at all and to say that he was the Messiah is a clear divergence from what the Jews believed that the Messiah was supposed to be (he wasn't supposed to, you know, actually be God). Also, he clearly failed to meet several prophecies, which means that Christians had to create a concept called the Second Coming for him to fulfill the criteria.
[3:45] [And mention] when the angels said, "O Mary, indeed Allah gives you good tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary - distinguished in this world and the Hereafter and among those brought near [to Allah ]. The Christian Messiah is Jesus (pbuh). The Muslim Messiah is Jesus (pbuh). However his return will also be accompanied by al-Mahdi. The Jewish Messiah is a descendant of David (pbuh). To summarize.
This, for the most part. It's more accurate to state that Jesus is clearly not the messiah according to Jewish scripture.
