An old but interesting article about Kosovo.

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has warned in its latest report that the axis between South American drug cartels and the Albanian mafia have acquired alarming proportions, and reports by several intelligence agencies show that Kosovo is a distribution center on the crossroads of global routes and pathways of drug trafficking.

This warning by UNODC is the latest in a series of alarming reports by a number of agencies in charge of fighting organized crime, including the FBI, Interpol and Europol, which state that the Albanian mafia is the most serious criminal organization in Europe because it controls a huge part of the heroin trade in a number of European state - Switzerland, Greece, Belgium, Austria, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Norway, and, recently, in Great Britain.

The western European heroin market, of which 40-75 percent is controlled by Albanians, brings annual earnings of around seven billion dollars, which makes the trafficking in this type of narcotic by far the most profitable activity in the Balkans, western intelligence services have reported.

Albania and Kosovo are the heart of the Balkan drug trade route which links Pakistan and Afghanistan with Europe. That route is worth around seven billion dollars annually and around 80 percent of the heroin intended for the western European market is smuggled along this route, said a report presented to the US Congress.

Practically, the situation in Kosovo can’t be controlled by international law enforcement and drugs freely pass through borders of this failed state.

The drug traffic in this poorest region of Europe is almost entirely in the hands of criminal clans of ethnic Albanians, according to a newly released US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) report.

Found evidence of “black transplantation” during the conflict in Kosovo

“We have a person who gives evidence of the commission of medical procedures in northern Albania to extract human organs from Serbs kidnapped during the conflict in Kosovo in 1998-99″ – On Sunday AFP According to the prosecutor Vukcevic.
According to him, the witness is a Kosovo Albanian who allegedly took part in at least one operation for extraction of human organs.
«A witness told the details of the operation carried out in the late 90′s near the town of Kukes (north-east of Albania), in Serbian prisoners who have heart. The heart then sold on the black market, “- quoted as saying the prosecutor.
Witness also told how to transport organs for transplant from the airport to the Albanian capital Tirana.
Prosecutor noted that the witness “investigated and tested for more than a year».
«We believe that the information provided by the witness is reliable” – Vukcevic said, expressing the hope that it will help the international investigation of this case.

No doubt it needs to be the subject of a thorough investigation. But it will be hard to do because Albanian authorities might try to harbour criminals and some senior officers (field commanders) of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) knew and took part in these crimes. As is known, one of the field commanders of the KLA was the prime minister of Kosovo Hashim Thaci.

A lot of people knew that Albania was a drug smuggling haven, especially HATO. That is perhaps one reason why they wanted to add Kosovo to the operation. It probably has some strategic importance in conjunction with the opium plantations being protected by HATO in Afghanistan.

Yes, Afghanistan over the last decade has become the world's largest narco-state.
Now Afghanistan produces more than 90% of the world's opium. But US and entourage (ISAF) is not going to stop the production of drugs in Afghanistan though the drug trafficking has hit EU and US and hit them hard.

Yes this is a new bu^thurt for EU. A criminal area + in military terms, it’s a new place of arms for radical Islamic (terrotist) groups. And it’s a personal but^hurt for their neighbors Serbs, Macedonians etc. Greater Albania is an idee fixe there.

Yes they do. And they’re very efficient.

Btw AGS how many American officials (congressmen, judges etc) have so-called immunity? I mean categories of persons with respect to whom a special procedure on detention, examination, criminal and administrative cases is applied.

I think we're past the "Thaci is an ******** and Clinton/Blair are idiots for supporting him" argument. Oil/strategic allies are obviously more valuable than drugs are a problem, and that idea is what was/is at the heart of this. Humanitarianism has always been a farce when it comes to International Relations. Keep shouting if you want to, they're not listening.

an old but interesting and actual report about freedom fighters from kla >

The Kosovo Liberation Army, which has won the support of the West for its guerrilla funded by dubious sources, including drug money. That is the judgment of senior police officers across Europe. An investigation by The Times has established that police forces in three Western European countries, together with Europol, the European police authority, are separately investigating growing evidence that drug money is funding the KLA's leap from obscurity to power. The financing of the Kosovo guerrilla war poses critical questions and it sorely tests claims to an 'ethical' foreign policy. Should the West back a guerrilla army that appears to be partly financed by organised crime? Could the KLA's need for funds be fuelling the heroin trade across Europe? ...As well as diverting charitable donations from exiled Kosovans, some of the KLA money is thought to come from drug dealing.
    http://www.kosovo.net/rpc2.html

'We have intelligence leading us to believe that there could be a connection between drug money and the Kosovo Liberation Army,' said Walter Kege, head of the drug enforcement unit in the Swedish police intelligence service.

'We have yet to find direct evidence, but our experience tells us that the channels for trading hard drugs are also used for weapons,' said one Swiss police commander.

    A great disclosure ^ ;)
