Shakespeare is not the worst of the failings of Yeshivot in the West. Students leave with huge gaps in their general knowledge and if they ever leave the close knit orthodox community they need to get remedial work just to understand much of the world most of us live in. There is a balance but willful ignorance of reality is never honoring Torah or God.

    Yes.
However, I suspect that you may be using the word "justified" in its modern, "politically correct" sense, which would mean was it "okay" or "defensible."

However, justified does mean - righteous in the eyes of G-d. Another definition would be doing something for a legitimate or good reason.

So, yes, Avraham Avinu was, indeed, righteous in the eyes of G-d and he was going to sacrifice Yitzchak for a good and legitimate reason. Both - because G-d told him to do so.

Different questions might be: WHY did G-d tell him to do this and WHY did he obey G-d.
If you were interested in those questions, I would probably cut and paste some relevant explanations from various Sages and Commentaries. Those questions have been pondered and discussed for the last three thousand years also...

Have any Jewish scholars spent time on the question of who was responsible for Jesus' death?

    What does the Bible say?

    1 Thessalonians 2:14-16 (CEV) =
My friends, you did just like God’s churches in Judea and like the other followers of Christ Jesus there. And so, you were mistreated by your own people, in the same way they were mistreated by their people.

Those Jews killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and they even chased us away. God doesn’t like what they do and neither does anyone else. They keep us from speaking his message to the Gentiles and from leading them to be saved. The Jews have always gone too far with their sins. Now God has finally become angry and will punish them.

I have a question (tongue in cheek) We are told the Jews control the world, news outlets, entertainment, money etc etc. So if the all powerful Jew runs everything, why didn't they extinguish the Arabs 70 years ago? It would seem a very small task for such a powerful group of people :)

Since Jesus is a biblical character the Bible is a relevant source.

And anyone can respond to any person's comments on forums such as this. So go big or go home.

I might agree with you if you dialed back your disapprobation a bit.

There are many, many yeshiva students who, because of their relative failure to understand the secular world, do find themselves at a disadvantage.
However - this is a choice made trying to pursue a course which emphasizes obedience to G-d's Torah and a desire to live as G-d Commands.
I can relate from personal experience that the overwhelming majority of "ultra" Orthodox Jews in America (and, based on experience, probably in Israel as well) do NOT ignore reality. Many, many seemingly Torah observant Jews are far too involved with "reality" in ways that are detrimental to their spiritual health.
However, you are correct in that many are, indeed, ignorant of some of the basic tools needed to relate with the secular world. Nonetheless, this is a choice.

On the other hand, from personal experience, I also know many, many "ultra" Orthodox Jews who attended very stringent yeshivas, who are extremely successful in this secular world. Stock brokers; all manner of doctors and lawyers; building contractors; jewelers; owners and managers of industries; teachers; mechanics; government administrators; and just about every secular profession that one can imagine... People learn what they need to learn; what most interests them; and then they move on...

My eldest son went through this process. After being married, he learned in Kollel (a pittance paid position where a man learns Torah full time) while his wife worked. When they had 2 children and his wife could not work as much, they started their own business, which still did not make them enough money. He worked a number of different jobs trying to make ends meet. While taking courses to get his Masters in Business, he learned of an opportunity to be a teacher (rabbi) in a Jewish Day School.
Now, both he and his wife teach full time; making a living; and continuing to advance their education and skills.

I know many such stories, including the aforementioned doctors and stock brokers.

The fault lies not with the yeshivas but, with the choices we all make. A yeshiva is designed to meet specific purposes. The rest is up to us.

Not in terms of the kind of study that is done understanding G-d's Torah.
I haven't read any specific references however, I suspect that, in passing, some of the Great Rabbis might have commented the obvious - the Romans killed him.
In the early days of the Church, some Jewish Authorities may have tried to address the Christian slanders against the Jews (see my post #6), but I am not familiar with their arguments.

True story - a man with a sign and literature, was chanting on a NYC street corner: "The Jews Control the Media! The Jews Control the Media! The Jews Control the Media!"
A rabbi - black hat; peyos (earlockss); etc., walked up to him and said: That's not True! The Jews Control the World!" and then laughed hysterically at the man's shocked expression and then, literally ran away like a maniac.
This rabbi is actually quite a normal dignified person but specifically wanted to demonstrate how crazy that man was and... he spoke the Truth, the Jews do control the world - I wrote about this in an earlier post which I don't remember where...
Basically, the Torah tells us that the condition of the world - good and bad, is the responsibility of the Jewish People. When there is a tsunami in the Pacific Ocean, Hashem is communicating with His People a specific message that we need to repent; to do teshuva, in order to make G-d's Creation function properly...

And, on the Gripping Hand, the reason that the Worldwide Jewish Conspiracy hasn't wiped out the Arabs is because WE are the ones behind the Arabs wanting to murder Jews and destroy Israel. We do that because WE control the ARMS INDUSTRY and get to make all that MONEY! HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAA!
(Now if they would just send me that damn check for my split of the profits... Just becuz I missed the last Worldwide Jewish Conspiracy Meeting held in the Secret Place, they're holding up my payment... Damn... I mean c'mon - the food wasn't kosher and they held the Meeting on Shabbos in a Church - they even invited the damn Masons and Illumanati! What's Jew supposed to do?)

Well, first of all, the English meaning of the Greek word, "messiah," does not have the same meaning or implications in Judaism as it does in Christianity.
Simply put, there is no "messiah" as the world commonly understands that term, in Judaism

Jews believe in the coming of moshiach, which literally means "anointed one" which was the name given to King David. Through the millennium, the idea of moshiach is that he will be a descendant of King David; will lead the People of Israel back to the Land of Israel; and that this will usher in an Age where G-d rebuilds the Temple in Jerusalem; the Jewish People will repent of their errant ways and serve G-d; and the World at large will also turn to G-d as the One True G-d.

All the various ideas of what the moshiach means is mostly relevant to the Jews. It is peripherally relevant to mankind but, only if the Jews first do what G-d asks of them.

so israel being opened up now, is not of judaism?

ie... no moshiach led the creation, correct?

And then, what would make you see the 'annoited'? Will he 'walk on water'?

What is it that defines, what 'he' is to bring that is so pure to be known?
what more repenting could you do?

You eldest is teaching. What is greater, except to be teaching the absolute of truth?
how is a moshiach to mankind, only relevant to jews, if what he does/brings affects all mankind?

How can you claim that only jews know what to do?

Do the four colors of mankind combine?

I can only presume that English is not your first language. So, forgive me if I am interpreting your questions incorrectly.

I think you are asking if the secular State of Israel is the Jewish State; or Kingdom; or some kind of fulfillment of G-d's Torah.
    If so - I don't know.
It appears to Me that the establishment of the Jewish State of Israel in the Land of Israel after 2,000 years is, indeed, miraculous and part of G-d's Plans.
However - it is Not the Kingdom of Israel that moshiach will lead us to - YET.

Again, I think you are asking if the whole "Word... in the beginning" found in the "new testament that refers to Jesus as the "Word" is the same as the Jewish moshiach.
If so - no. Moshiach is a man, like all other men - though apparently more connected to G-d.

No water walking (unless he had those great pontoon shoes). According to the Torah, Jewish Kings are "Anointed" which means both "chosen by G-d" and literally anointed with oil and other rituals that established their Kingship.
It's a long and complicated subject. Simply put - King David was considered the Anointed One, different from other Jewish Kings, because he was the one chosen by G-d to establish G-d's Jewish Kingdom on Earth and Jerusalem as the Place of G-d's Holy Temple.

    I don't know.
If some Jewish leader arises who is a direct descendant of King David and, against all odds, starts leading Jews back to Israel; defeats our enemies; and receives the approval of the Great Rabbis who are alive today; among other things - I would suspect that he was, indeed, moshiach.

To love each other; to take care of each other; to learn Torah; to be a light unto Mankind...

This is good. I will happily accept that approbation.

Again, that is, indeed, a complicated question.
Simple answer (very simple) - moshiach is not Only relevant to Jews but - it is the Jewish people that have to listen and follow him in order for him to be relevant to Mankind.

    I don't think I did.
Jews have to do what G-d asks of them.
The rest of Mankind also needs to do what G-d asks of them.

    I don't know.
There are no "racial colors" in Judaism. "Colors" are irrelevant and mean nothing.

im a so cal beach bum in fact.

picture me in sandles, t shirt, shorts and a good tan.

about as 'west' as possible to comprehending 'freedom'.

    ie... 'we the people'

but hashemite are who've been surrounded, in fact.

That could be closer to a fulfillment, id say.

    that's a fact.

nah. Jesus shared that each are capable to forgive and the injil (6 commands) (mark 10:19, see 17, 18 for the giggle part).
all connected the same, be fair.

The dali lama trail is of 'chosen ones' to learn with zero wants, then to write for the next generations. But it aint that a life is chosen, but of honor to do what is real by choice.

Even you give of self, for the next generations, right?

And even you, are capable to forgive as well understand. I have noted that you do know much more than most on this specific matter of a 'man'. The next step is to evolve with truth, unveiling.

just freeze it first, then anyone can walk on it. Jesus didnt know that trick. "We' do!

now be fair, who is going to be annointed in today's age.

How is there to be a 'king' to be born? As there is no lineage proven to david, by any human alive, even as we both must know, that each of us, do in fact have lineage that DID live in them days, or we would not be here.

It would be like a couple claiming that they are chosen by god to have the child (david lineage) and then all must worchip.

how is that? Did david open up sion? No

David's lesson is that the greatest of beast, can be taken down with a single blow to the head. To me, that is knowledge destroying ignorance. The people will understanding and the beast of hierarchy is to be over. Or it aint the mess of a man that the world awaits.

    now you're getting funny.

Moshiah aint to appease you or your rabbi.

In fact, i think that was rather bold for you to put into print.

    we all, are light

torah is something anyone can read in a weekend

    and empathy is human nature

    again, more funny.

That claim you just made, would mean that jews aint relevant until the man shows up.

and was that 'ask' to simple follow the rules and await?

four horseman are the four colors of mankind

weird, i thought you'd know that

Being anointed also mean being recognized.
And Bishadi, plenty of people are still getting anointed today, all the Catholics do in fact get anoint during their batism with the "Saint Creme".

    Excellent video Jonsa.

And, in repayment - the holiday of Pesach (Passover) is right around the corner, in three weeks. And, unlike the one day holiday of Purim, Passover lasts for 8 days and takes a lot of preparation... Like, I'm already running late!

Here is a brief and quite wonderful Passover video.

    clipped and dipped?

    circumcision is egyptian

gand baptism is like bathing (a new man (women))

but when a life tells another that a child is born bad and must be annoited to be good, please slap that sob for lying (ie... false witness)

    dont bring up alter boys

this is a thread by a man in curlers (apparently) that says he will answer questions, but as soon as something makes him question his own understanding, then bam the clam up.

Imagin what he will be like whn i tell him, that im the name holder

most (jews) will not even communicate with any human being, that would make such a claim.

i have communicated with more rabbi, that most even know and as soon as something is mentioned about real world application that they are unfamailiar with, they dont get assistance, they just dont face their own inconsistancies.

It's like going to a catholic preacher and telling them that Mary may not not have been a virgin and that perhaps the virgin birth was a prophecy that when mankind can enable women, without intercourse to concieve (test tube babies), that perhaps the prophecy is appicable to the correct time. The preacher will not cross that line, nor will rabbi on issues of messiah?

Although I did get a kick out of the assumption that rabbi must be appeased per se. That did crack me up.

My post had nothing to do with altar boy... I don't know where you are trying to go with this.
I said that being anointed is still a common practice today and not only for the jews.
It also has nothing to do with circumcision... I'm detecting a theme here in your post, not one that I fancy but, hey, whatever float your boat...

Another question: To what do you attribute the disproportionate contribution Jews have made (and continue to make) to civilization?

Has anybody argued the ethics of circumcision yet?

as evidence to each extreme of a human being: empathetic and selfish
there are law suits by children against their parents for it.

But the circumcision imposition to a child, for a religious belief, is beyond unethical...... and the reason why it is wrong is because the parents impose it for a belief. The initial reason it was even created was because of sanitary reasons but now a days the majority of every circumcision is for a belief, not health.

Actually why shouldn't the fault lie with the yeshivot if THEY choose to ignore secular studies in favor of religion and their particular interpretation of Torah. But that is not what this thread is about so I will leave it at that.
