Actually the kid should have held up a rainbow flag at the end of the race and outted himself.....then he wouldn't have been DQed, would have gotten a personal phone call from the President and been proclaimed a national hero by the media.....

obviously the teachers do not understand separation of church and state, the students are well in their rights to point to the sky.. BUT, the teachers can not make them to point to the sky

There is no reason to believe this has anything to do with religion. It is because of a rule that prohibits raising hands, possibly due to a fear of taunts or whatever.

Regarding this rule, I can almost palpate the idiocy of the dumbass who came up with it through my monitor..

The kid was white. That is why the OP is so upset. If the kid was black he would be applauding the decision and calling the kid a low IQ monkey who ruined all the hard work of his teammates.

More laws and rules just give those in power more potential excuses to punish what they don't like. It is selective application of justice. If someone on the winning team had just raised both hands quickly to celebrate, I bet they would not have been disqualified.

You really should try to form your own thoughts.....instead of putting words in the mouths of others.......makes for a better thread...........you do know that three of the four members of this relay team are black and this idiotic decision also took away their chance to compete for a state championship......... something they will probably not get a chance to do the rest of their lives.....

Yep. Wonder what would have happen if he'd thrown down a prayer rug and started ranting praises of Allah?

ya putting words in peoples mouths is pathetic nonsense no better then stuff like this

And to make it worse, apparently it was a European American kid.....who apparently upset a black or jewish "judge" who was upset that this White kid was "sprinting while White"......un-friggin'-believable

    and this

Yep, you may be right.......this white kid was probably taunted before the race by the black kids on the other 4X100 relay team....."whitie you can't sprint, this is "our" race'....or some such nonsense.....and the white kid, upon beating their ass probably threw his finger in the air and maybe at them......and the "judge", who was probably black decided to be in "solidarity" with his black "brothas" and showed this kid what happens to kids who are "sprinting while whites".....

    and this

If you lived in the real world.....instead of some Cultural Marxist reality.....you would know that the vast majority of "taunting" in sports today is blacks taunting whites.....that's just the reality.....ask you neighbor. This kid was probably "taunting" back by pointing his hand in the air at beating blacks in a sprint.....and some black "judge" or a self-loathing white "judge" who don't believe that whites can sprint decided to "right a wrong".....

    and this

Actually the kid should have held up a rainbow flag at the end of the race and outted himself.....then he wouldn't have been DQed, would have gotten a personal phone call from the President and been proclaimed a national hero by the media.....

Liberals are anti-Christian bigots who hate free speech. It is that simple.

not about idiot rules in california, its about idiot rules in Texas and that fact that conservatives can be just as stupid liberals. No doubt a depressing thought for conservatives everywhere.

I thought the rule was to avoid *excessive* celebration.

Doing an elaborate 20-second dance everytime you score a point is excessive.

    Making a brief gesture isn't.

But, then again, I wouldn't be surprised if the judges had pinups of Obama in their offices.

Exactly how would I "know" that the "vast majority of taunting is blacks taunting whites"?

Or more to the point, how do YOU "know" this "reality"? Whiny White Man blogs on Stormfront crying in their beer about "meanie blacks" saying "mean things" and stealing their white women?

I really don't worry about some black dude stealing my woman.......she's not stupid.......she knows that about the only interracial marriage that we have ever seen work out is O.J & Nicole.....LOL. But I do notice the white women at the malls, with their mulatto babies, with the grandparents trailing behind to pay for everything because "dear old dad" ain't anywhere to be found.

Now, back to the subject at hand........do you believe that pointing one's finger to the sky after anchoring a winning 4x100 spring is "excessive celebration" or "taunting"......I would submit that it is not.

Well, if your description of what the kid actually did was accurate, you might have a point.

But that is the dad's rendition of the incident, and we can be fairly certain he is leaving out essential details, like maybe the extended middle finger that gave the officials the feeling they were being "disrespected."

That requires MUCH MORE than "pointing up to the sky"!

As Alfalfa so nicely provided the REAL description of the incident, instead of the Breitfart phony propaganda in the OP and all the Rightie brains that operate on rumor and bigotry.

    Pathetic rule.

An athlete at the HS, college, or pro level after day in & day out training is going to let off some sort of celebration if they succeed in the event they have been training for. I could understand if the kid won the race and then jumped up all in the face of another runner taunting him, but simply pointing a finger to the sky is hardly a celebration.

    Dumbest rule ever.

If a kid at the high school level can't handle losing, his ass needs to go home and quit competing. We don't need silly ass rules like this. Overall celebration, is just that over celebration. Raising up a finger as #1, when you are #1 isn't flaunting.

I am sure the kid has a picture with his coach holdin up that same finger and a trophy with big smiles all around somewhere now too.

Get over it. The kid won fair and square on the playing field. End of discussion. And unless there was honest to God excessive celebration and jus all around mean spirited sportsmanship that somehow creeps in, this decision is BS.

The ruling was correct. Anyone who runs or ran track knows you don't do that kind of stuff on the track.

This ain't the Olympics or a Diamond Tour event.

    Probably an English teacher.

    "Excessive celebratory gestures"

Excessive- Exceeding a normal, usual, reasonable, or proper limit.

Pointing a finger to the sky is excessive? GTFOH!

It doesn't say absolutely no show of emotion, or excitement. The rule is supposed to be in place to eliminate razzing or displaying poor sportsmanship, and this example does neither. Being excited doesn't automatically dictate poor sportsmanship. The judge is a moron, and probably needs to find another profession. The school administrators is even a bigger dunce. He compares the call to a umpire calling a ball or a strike in a game of baseball which is extremely subjective, and would do the game no justice by changing the call when the rules says the final call goes to the ump. This isn't a bad call from the perspective of an ump, this is a judge who determined the definition to mean "any" gesture" should be dealt with and require a disqualification, and that is not the intent of the rule.
