This can be kind of a tangent to the other thread on the decline of the US.

When 210,000,000 people are on prescription drugs, it does have an effect on society.

It's absolutely ridiculous that many people are on drugs. Frankly it's stupid. Not the folks with actual medical diseases, but I am talking about the fools who put their kids on antidepressants or are told to by their schools. Those parents are garbage. Look at the school shootings around this country, and most if not all were done by kids who were on prescription meds. Those drugs are not good!!!! Want to know why so many kids are on antidepressants? For starters, most of them are probably on birth control, which causes guess what?, depression. I bet you, yes you reading this, know at least 1 person who is on birth control and also on antidepressants. And I bet you, neither one of you have ever stopped to consider the connection. Another reason is no spirituality in the home growing up. How can there be? With mom & dad both out working, some daycare worker is the source of your child's upbringing and I pretty much guarantee that daycare worker isn't talking about faith, morals, ethics. So is it any surprise young kids are depressed inthe most prosperous nation ever on earth? So kids coming out of free for all daycare environment, where they have been since they were 6 months old till the ripe old age of 5, are now thrust into a totalitarian quasi-prison system, known as the public school system, where these same free-for-all kids are now told to sit down and shut up. Since they cant do that, the school has somehow gained the power to tell parents to put their kids on, GUESS WHAT????, yep, drugs so they can be still. So little Johnny grows up on meds for the next decade, then mom and dad, both to preoccupied with themselves and posting duck face pictures of themselves in facebook to care about actually raising their kid, now wonder why Johnny, all grown up has issues and isn't happy.

Hence, you multiple this scenario by millions of times over and we wonder why our country is in decline?....lol.

Is that not an amazing number? 210,000,000 people out of 300,000,000 are on drugs in this country.

    That is just.....WOW!

It's no accident. The pharmaceutical industry has been working on this for many years. Lobbyists, bribery, even putting doctors through school with the stipulation they push their drugs.

But we live in a chemical country. Chemicals in the air, in the water, in everything made by industry and in our food. Gotta counteract the effects of all those chemicals.

    Because nobody hold industry accountable....

Well the pharmaceutical industry can work on whatever they want. It's the stupid, idiotic parents responsibility to not fall prey to a marketing campaign. Pharm companies advertise like all other companies and industries.

I just don't understand after watching one of their commercials, how anybody in their right mind says, "Lets go take that b/c I want to have anal bleeding and heart palpitations!"

Doesn't surprise me at all. In fact I figured the number would be higher. A few years back I was at an event, and somebody was talking about blood pressure medicine, then somebody else chimed in and another and another. At that point I tapped my glass as if to make a speech and stood on a chair to ask a room full (about 85 people ages 18-over 70), how many people in this room are on some form of blood pressure medication?

All but 2 people raised their hand. Would have been easier if I would have asked who wasn't. Over medicated nation with who knows what.

Legalize marijuana and all of this won't be a problem. Break the grip that the pharmaceutical companies have on our country. This is one of the reasons why healthcare costs continue to rise, the ever rise on folks on prescription drugs.

It certainly explains the brainwashed mind ideology and election outcomes in the USA recently.

It's a little more complex than that, in that kids drugs are typically given to middle class kids. Middle class parents want their kids to have good jobs, good well paid jobs. And these jobs are very narrow in their acceptance of personality types. So if little Johnny doesn't fit that mould, he'll be made to.

Some kids are just not that way, but society says they must. We must make larger changes to society to remove these issues, we must accept thzt a far larger % of people are artistic by nature than we currently do. And our attitudes towards value, weather and life must change to accomodate this.

Of course you are on drugs, look for who you are voting for :p

Too many drugs now probably means even more in the future , i ve never seen any kid with allergies or asthma when i was in school and now like half of them are with sprays and tablets.

What the hell do you do when you are literally living in Brave New World? Talk about being sane in an insane world. No wonder everyone just gives me blank looks when I use a three syllable word. The brain dead mouth breathers are all on drugs worse than crack, and tell me I "wear a tin foil hat" because I think there's something amiss.

Actually if it was refined, and the active ingredients were made into a syrup or in pill form it could replace numerous over the counter medications that are worse for you. This is the brainwashing people succumbed too. A natural product is bad, while a chemical concoction that isn't normally found in the body, cause more side effects in comparison than they actually do good, and remain in the system much longer they should, are eaten like candy by the same fools who still believe the pharmaceutical propaganda that has been proven wrong just about every time a legitimate study is allowed to be accomplished. So technically you would be replacing a more dangerous medicinal aid for one that would be much safer. People are sheep.

don't know about yall but my doctor is hell bent on having me live to 90 crapping my drawers in a old folks home and anticipating oatmeal and broccoli for dinner even though I insist that is not my desire. Would much rather choke to death eating a slice of pepperoni pizza in a topless bar next week, pass me that beer

Why did you throw in the word "weather"? It seems extremely out of place.

No, let's not hold the people ingesting these drugs personally responsible for their own decisions and behavior. Let's go Full OccuTard and blame "industry". :psychoitc:

Let's not hold the drug companies responsible for their marketing tactics, nor the fast food companies for 24/7 saturation marketing, nor junk food and sugary beverage manufacturers. Lets' not ask corporate American to be personally responsible for their deceptions, after all it's buyer beware and no accountability for corporations, we cannot restrict their ability to make a buck by insisting on accountability and ethical behavior.

Remember how long the tobacco companies insisted cigarettes were good for you? Look at all the products that are now deemed dangerous or questionable. BPA, Phthalates, Teflon, lead in paints...the lists of chemicals are endless. The oceans ore poisoned with arsenic, pregnant women are advised to restrict consumption of fish (like it's OK for everyone else to injest man made arsenic) Prescription drugs are dumped into our water supply.

So when we're looking at personal responsibility, lets exempt corporate America, their never ending drive for increase profits at any expense, and our political process OK?

Another apologist for a corrupt capitalistic system.

Like everything in American society. It's about profiting through short cuts. Feel better faster. Lose weight faster. Sleep faster. None of that has to do with any sort of spiritual, emotional, or mental well being, but the promise that you don't need to do any of the hard work to accomplish those things in any real way when there are pills to do it for you is the biggest lie private industry has sold us over the years. Like anything, processed is the alternative to natural. Look at what processed has done to our world. Of course, no one can say that the "good ole days" were better, because in lieu of prescription drugs they had whiskey and cigarettes to cope. So human nature hasn't exactly put forth the effort to do something of value, even if it takes time.

I've seen the effects of kids put on ritalin and other drugs at a young age. They do it because the kids "are all rambunctious and terrorizing the playground". They're little boys FFS. One of the first was really energetic. After the parents, at the urging of the principal, put the child on ritalin, he became very withdrawn and was no longer the carefree kid he had been. he was a zombie. I wanted to beat the parents.
