Simple question deserves a simple answer. I do predict the outcome of this poll in this section of the PF. Vote and tell us why...
All gods are imaginary entities created by superstitious people. Not one god of any kind has ever done anything godly since the first man created him.
But the Faithful have a way around your statement of Logic. That is....BUT IT IS GOD'S WILL! LOL!! Gee Daddy, why do I have to die of Cancer? Because sweetheart...it is GOD's WILL! But Daddy, why is there so much pain and suffering in the world? Because my soon to die sweetheart...IT IS GOD'S WILL!! Hey Daddy! Why do you have a picture of that nice Planned Parenthood Clinic Doctor? And where are you going with that RIFLE? Is something BAD going to happen? No...something GOOD...because it is GOD'S WILL!!! Gee Daddy....why are you behind bars for the rest of your life? Since you believe you should be able to do miracles greater than what Jesus did. Can you do some miracles for us? That will go a long way toward improving my intelligence.
What do you base that on? - - - Updated - - - http://www.politicalforum.com/political-opinions-beliefs/315112-why-must-we-endure-religious-ideology-forced-into-our-faces.html
- - - Updated - - - I just have a (sincere) question, what's the difference between "No" and "I BELIEVE IN NOTHING"?
Hey...I will admit it if I am wrong. I always have and always will. The Banana thing though is twisting the knife! LOL! AboveAlpha
Yes. But I think what I do and think is more important. God wants me to be true to myself. Otherwise what's the point?
That's basic faith. John 14:10-14 (CJB) = [SUP]"10 [/SUP]Don’t you believe that I am united with the Father, and the Father united with me? What I am telling you, I am not saying on my own initiative; the Father living in me is doing his own works. [SUP]11 [/SUP]Trust me, that I am united with the Father, and the Father united with me. But if you can’t, then trust because of the works themselves. [SUP]12 [/SUP]Yes, indeed! I tell you that whoever trusts in me will also do the works I do! Indeed, he will do greater ones, because I am going to the Father. [SUP]13 [/SUP]In fact, whatever you ask for in my name, I will do; so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. [SUP]14 [/SUP]If you ask me for something in my name, I will do it." Every believer as a minimum should be able to do the list of things specified in Mark 16:17-18 (CJB) = [SUP]"17 [/SUP]And these signs will accompany those who do trust: in my name they will drive out demons, speak with new tongues, [SUP]18 [/SUP]not be injured if they handle snakes or drink poison, and heal the sick by laying hands on them.” If a person can't do those things then he doesn't believe at all. If a person really believed then he could command a mountain to jump into the sea and it would do as commanded. So far no one has ever displayed that amount of faith. Everyone is an atheist. Matthew 21:21 (CJB) = Yeshua answered them, “Yes! I tell you, if you have trust and don’t doubt, you will not only do what was done to this fig tree; but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Go and throw yourself into the sea!’ it will be done."
What do you mean by God? I believe in things that can be interpreted as gods, but I do not think they are gods (at least not in the traditional sense). Where does that fall? By the capitalization of God, I assume you mean the Christian God? Possibly the Abrahamitic God? Maybe any monotheistic God? This question may seem simple to you, but only because you gloss over the actually important parts of the question.
I meant God. The one and only, not made by religion or countries. A non human God. There is only one.
One can not believe in a singular and personal god and still believe in ghosts, psychics, other supernatural phenomena.
I disagree that it's a simple question but I gave a simple answer anyway (No). I don't believe in God because I don't believe in God - it isn't a choice, it's just the conclusion your brain comes to as it does with countless other things. Looking at it rationally, I see no consistent definition of "God" nor do I see any consistent evidence supporting any of the varying definitions. The only reason I can understand someone believing in a specific god is some form of spiritual experience that convinces them but again, looking at it rationally, I see no reason to assume those experiences necessarily indicate the existence of the god the individual goes on to believe in. I personally think that the things our minds can create and develop are infinitely more amazing that any god you can conceive of (by definition, obviously) and I think we'd do much better putting our collective effort in to understanding that than trying to please some divine beings that may or may not be out there and may or may not want us to do the things we imagine they want us to.
I voted NO...not because I know there is nothing in control, nothing behind the scenes...but because the term "God" has come to represent something written down in a book somewhere. There may very well be something out there/in there/over there....whatever, but it is certainly not to be found in a book.
no. not any of 'em. even though you couched your question in such a way as to suggest you were referring to a specific god - without actually telling us which one it was. - - - Updated - - - no. not any of 'em. even though you couched your question in such a way as to suggest you were referring to a specific god - without actually telling us which one it was.
I voted yes, but that does not mean I believe in a personal God as some Christians believe nor the petty, wrathful God(s) of other religions. No religion or person has a direct line to God, fully understand what God is or anything about such a power. In comparison, we're ants trying to comprehend a metropolis built on our little mound. We can only see and understand the parts our little minds can see, but simply incapable of comprehending beyond our own limitations.
This simple question actually deserves ridicule and why wouldn't it? What did you just ask us? You asked us if we share in your particular delusion. Fairies, unicorns, the Lochness monster, bigfoot and God, I say these words and all of them but one seem ridiculous to you because you have chosen the one delusion out of them all that has the largest following. Religion allows otherwise intelligent and reasonable people to believe by the billions what only crazy people can believe on their own. If you wake up tomorrow and believe that saying a few Latin words over your pancakes will turn them into the body of Elvis, you have lost your mind but if you believe the same thing about a cracker and the body of Jesus, you're just a Catholic. The truly religious do not deserve admiration nor respect, they suffer from a delusion and we should not enable them or encourage them by suggesting there may just actually be something to their religion. You need to free your mind before you waste your entire life carrying that blanket around.
Yes I believe in God, I cannot give some scientific reason, though I could give some snide remark about those that do not believe as I believe. But instead I will just say that even if I am wrong my life has been richer for the communion of fellow believers and strength faith has given me.
No worries, I'm the same way. Fortunately nobodies ever thrown the dancing banana in my face... Yet lol
