Eh kinda a grey area for me.

They could be included with openly gay soldiers after the repeal of DADT..but I question wether they should be.

Really a between the lines issue.

I'm kind of the same way. They may be just as capable, but a trans soldier has a lot more physical baggage than a bio man or woman.

Also, there needs to be a distinction between pre-transition, pre-op, and post-op. All three of those groups in the trans community have different needs which the military would need to recognize before allowing them in.

For example, a soldier pre-transition is biologically the same as everyone else because there's no hormones in the equation. A pre-op would be difficult because their body and mind are constantly changing over the course of hormone treatment, but once that's done, the problems would likely go away. A post-op is one who has genital surgery, and that probably wouldn't effect their fighting abilities at all.

Even with those complications listed above, I don't see why the military is continuing to exclude trans soldiers from serving. In fact, most male to female soldiers never really get rid of their muscular features from their male days. It really depends on the individuals in the end, but that's got to count for something.

While I agree with most of this I have to point out that the emotional effects of hormone therapy have to be taken into account.

Having known people transitioning I have witnessed some of the mood swings that accompany it. Perhaps not the best mix for a soldier.

Gays in the military is no problem...

They won't allow transgenders, because they'd have to revamp the entire system of standards in place for an extraordinarily small amount of people...

Why not allow transgenders in the military? It's infested with everything else. May as well welcome everything.

Due to political correctness, devoted gung-ho, patriotic, white male soldiers have endured egregious infestations of just about everything -- feisty, bossy women and their silly accusations, affirmative-action minorities, gays, lesbians, murderous Muslims in their ranks, etc., but these dedicated male soldiers have maintained their patriotic zeal and managed to keep the nation safe regardless of overwhelming sacrifices.

Why not put some additional infestations, drag and burdens on the military's real soldiers? Let everything serve. The real soldiers will endure.

Department of Defense -- always open!

Infantry -- everything else is just support.

Thailand has for a few years now allowed Kathoeys to serve in the military and police force.

It is not "flamebait" to say that people with obvious mental issues like transgenders have should not be armed and allowed a license to kill. That's what the military does: arms and trains to kill. Mental illness has no place in the military. The circus has run its course. There are limits to the expanse of the LGBT movement. The military is one of those; especially with "transgenders". Pretending you are the opposite gender is delusionary. People with delusions do not belong in the military.

I find it not only stunning, but chilling, that the above opinion in different wording and another like it were deleted from this thread on the previous page.

People who want to amputate healthy organs to mutilate their function in an attempt to role-play the opposite gender, with a huge failure rate in "curing" their distress [a mutilated and dysfunctional body that was once healthy and functional causes distress] have successfully coerced the APA into declaring themselves "cured". Now they claim their only distress comes from not being able to access the mutilating surgery to complete their delusions.

Wow. Just wow... The mentally ill are setting the parameters of the DSM. We have finally arrived at the brink of insitutionalized insanity... This in the military? Sure, why not. We won't have a military soon. Crazy nations have a way of falling to their waiting and sane enemies... History is chock full of such accounts.

A woman for a few days each month has a lot of hormones pulsing through their veins and it can get rather messy. Can't imagine whats going through the head of someone who's literally changing sexes or already has. Tha'ts A LOT of baggage and ^$%&#$ bouncing around up there.

Being gay is natural. Nothing wrong with it. Someone who wants to or has changed their sex is in an entirely different category. Not saying your a bad person or anything. You've just got issues. Sorry. The military is probably not the most ideal place for you.

Not really, the PF meta post rules state you can't post something just to say this post is stupid, read the rules. Plus, I don't care if transgenders want to be in the military or not. I left the military 20 years ago and never looked back so it makes no difference to me.

Except that you live in a country that now perhaps more than in many decades needs the military to be a sharp running unit on its toes in order to defend the soil you plant your butt on to flip burgers on a lazy Saturday afternoon.

I noted in the Daily Show last nite, the stand in host John Olliver interviewed the gal from New York who was all in favor of repealing DADT on the topic of sexual assaults in the military. She kept dancing around explaining just who was raping who. She even used the pronoun "she" when referring to a case example of a "typical victim". Instantly Olliver corrected her saying "don't forget "he"...most assaults in the military are men assautling men" [paraphrased]. She nervously agreed and then tried to talk around that point to something else.

And she kept going on and on about why brass in the military are allegedly negligent for not getting to the bottom of the problem. And there she was purposefully avoiding saying that most sexual assaults in the military are men raping men. If you will not even talk about the prime demographic of who is assaulting who, how the hell can you get to the bottom of the dynamics of what is going on and how to stop it? She was an utter farce.

And so is not discussing the obvious and blatant mental illness in a person who plans on amputating healthy organs to become a mutilated, incontinent freak of nature, self-inflicted, with assistance from "doctors" in the medical community [social mental illness anyone?] joining the ranks of the military and wielding a weapon under extreme conditions of stress.

Have we collectively become so blind and stupid that the obvious ceases to have meaning? Is the real life version of "The Emperor's New Clothes" become so actualized that we have lost any vestige of perspective on sanity? Before the english language becomes so retroactively retooled as to lose all former meaning, let's visit the word "wisdom" for a minute. Wisdom is what you acquire with age and experiences. There is no amount of knowledge that is a substitute for it. Any society that expects to survive relies on wisdom to see itself through. Without wisdom, that society would perish. It's the reason we had set age limits on positions of power and influence in our country, like for Senators or the President. Yet today we find ourselves abdicating wisdom for the whim and fads of an unbridled youth movement. It likes bright colors, unchecked physical indulgences taken to bizarre and harmful extremes. This movement is screaming for a wise old hand to step in and save it from itself. It doesn't know the end point of its gyrations and insistent tantrums. It is scaring even itself as it moves forward like a wildfire burning all that could have saved it to the ground without thinking first.

When the American Psychological Association bends science to accomodate political whim, that is the time to pull down ITS status and accredation. A new entity needs to take the place of the APA. We don't have a lot of time left either. The screaming rainbow toddlers are pounding their fists now and demanding that the olympics be switched from Russia to Canada all because Russia doesn't allow gay propaganda around children; as they shouldn't allow. If this squalling youth-group-sans-wisdom gets its way on yet another of its tantrums and demands that the world change reality itself to accomodate their unexamined mental illness, we will risk a harsh slap in the face to Russia at a time when we really need to be diplomatic with them.

Which brings me back full circle to having a strong military just in case. And that doesn't include some poor fragile & untreated delusionist wielding a gun under extreme stress...

Take a look at the chart on page 53...

Slightly undermines your basis for your fear of gays in the military...

Let's take a look at the whole story shall we?

Because of the silence and shame surrounding men being assaulted by homosexuals, experts predict that the numbers are even far higher for male victims of sexual assault in the military.

It goes without saying that men who sexually assault men are mentally ill. Why would you want to introduce also into a military having such problems with mentally ill recruits as another type of mental illness which is a person so delusional about reality that they want to hack off their own healthy genitals, risk incontinence, sexual numbness and irreversible surgery scarring and complications to complete a delusion that they weren't born the way they are? Give this fragile untreated person a gun and a license to kill under the world's most extreme stress conditions?

    COMPLETE madness.

I'm just trying to show the numbers that are posted in the report on the SAPR website...

They explicitly say that the majority of reports come from junior enlisted females, under 25...
