Africa is full of 'emerging nations', and it is true that, in many respects, they might be described as inferior to the west. But that depends on one's point of view and how you're measuring that difference. I imagine that, to a Kalahari Bushman, Soweto might seem like a magical city of lights...to us it looks like the arse-end of somewhere like Flint, Michigan. It's all relative, you see.

No, they didn't live in caves when they were building the pyramids. Historical stereotypes would tell you that, but it isn't true. Europeans built their own heaps of stone like the egyptians, like stonehenge. Of course, the egyptians were more advanced at that time though. But then, europeans entered the bronze age much earlier.

the mayans built impressive stone buildings, but they weren't anywhere near what europeans could build. Europe could build better than that buring roman and greek times, and if you want a spanish example look at the barcelona cathedral. Clearly that is more advanced architecture than maya.

You are dodging the question by addressing only the level of wealth and technology. In what other ways is a specific African nation in question more developed? By the way, Kalahari bushmen are very non-representative of the populations of Africa. Are you some sort of fuzzy liberal who develops his views on Africa from watching "The Gods Must Be Crazy" numerous times?

 

Kalahari bushmen are as intrinsic to Africa as anyone else on the continent, and equally representative. They just live in a different way-not better, not worse just different. It's only in the 'developed' West that we measure advancement in either technological terms, or by the amount of stuff we can acquire. I have no idea what "The Gods Must Be Crazy" is. No question dodging; simply my point of view. Everything is relative.

you will see that the four African countries in question either don't have a proper government at all or the government is so incompetent that they can't tell how indebted they are compared to GDP. However, I will admit that with a couple of exceptions (see Eritrea, for example) your statement is true.

P.S. - Japan is in debt to the tune of over 200% of GDP!? I didn't realize they were such a basket case: how come this doesn't make the news!?

Europeans took African resources and enslaved many of the indigenous people. The effects are still seen today, from the languages they speak to the poverty they live in.

 

Kalahari Bushmen are a tiny percentage of the population of Africa that live in a very different way than nearly all other Africans and are not representative in the least. If you want a more typical African, consider a West African living in a slum on the outskirts of a capital city. That's where the most population growth in Africa has been in the last few decades, both from births and from migration from the countryside.

P.S. - "The Gods Must Be Crazy" was a comedy from quite a few years ago with a Kalahari Bushman as the protagonist. Feel free to rent it.
