Don't worry, I got your point.
The reason that we put national flags in the corner of our posts is to provide context for other posters, not to display pride. Well, maybe for some there are different reasons.
And I can assure you that seeing a shirt with "I'm proud to be German" will provoke a similar if not worse reaction from me.

Excuse my incoherent rambling, because I've just woken up, but I've learned a lot from this thread.
One thing is: I don't think I'm humorless and I'm not a big fan of political correctness either. I love making offensive jokes. Some people will rightfully be offended, others will be for PC reasons and that group is usually bigger and louder and the most fun to offend. So, I'm not an innocent in that department, only I like to pick my audience which is hard to do by wearing a t-shirt, and there are some topics I won't touch because I don't find them even slightly funny myself.

I also recalled a personal episode that happened when I was 14 and wearing a Guns n' Roses t-shirt. Some kids had one look at my t-shirt, called me a nazi and we had a little argument.
I later learned the band used a racial slur in one of their songs, which was reason enough for those kids to attack me (when I heard the song later I didn't even find it offensive).
They jumped to a conclusion because the only thing they knew about me was which shirt I had on.

In the future, when I see anything I find offensive or tasteless at first, I'll try to think about whether there might be another explanation.
I will still treat anything concerning race with suspicion, but I'll give the benefit of the doubt.

As is often the case in the threads here, I started on one side of the spectrum and am now drawn into the middle.

lol, finding this shirt funny makes you a brave, brave man. You deserve a medal.

blah blah blah, a bunch of pseudo-intellectual BS, twisting my views into some ridiculous nonsense.

Your warped, ignorant views make me laugh. Happy now?

I suppose that it depends on who the crowd is. I was part of the AAU in college last semester and they have discussion every week and one of the questions was are you happy being the race you are. I made some joke about "Hell yeah, I'm white" and everyone in the room thought it was funny. Now of course those people knew me and my sense of humor so it might have played out differently had I worn that shirt or said "Thank God I am white" to a group of total strangers. I am certainly not going to try and find out.

Would you be African American, Hispanic, Asian or even homosexual living in America if you had the choice?

Now be a man and be honest.

Your color inside, so to speak, is far more important than your color outside. That said, it's safer for a black person to drive through a white neighborhood late at night than vice versa, so the more extreme black racism is noteworthy.

That "one drop" rule was in effect way before your time. It isn't something that was just started.

You pretty much summed up every white nationalist and anti-black poster here. It sucks now because minorities have gained an equality status in America. Cry me a river.

Tell you what, with everything happening to "white" people as you say it is, how quick would you be willing to trade places with a black male?

So let me get this right. People should be proud to say I'm black but they should feel shame to say I'm white?

Not only are you completely ignoring the atrocities that the black race has commuted but you've COMPLETELY ignored all of the improvements and betterment white people have brought to this world as well. You're ignoring the literally hundreds of thousands of white men that have sacrificed themselves and their own to help provide for others.

Maybe you're a self hating white person but I'm damn proud to be white and no amount of guilt or shame originating from the jealousy and failure of any other group is going to change that.

If you have a penchant for being ridiculed then wear that shirt, by all means. I couldn't think of a more stupid, meaningless and pointless sentiment, frankly. I see someone wearing this I think, "********".

Clearly both of the previous posters must feel the same way about an I love being black shirt too right? Or are you hypocrites?

    Context is everthing.
If he was wearing 'tribal' tatoos all over, had a shaved head and nazi paraphernalia I'd keep my eye on him all the while he was in my business. Especially if he was with friends who looked like him. I'd be civil but probably stay close to my revolver under the counter. If he ordered a latte, sat down and pulled out a book by John Locke, René Descarte, Mark Twain or other great 'white' writers I'd likely relax. Might even be willing to ask him why he was wearing a T-shirt that had the potential for controversy.

Any who is proud of their race does not understand the definition of pride. It's about one's own achievments. You do not have the right to be proud of something that you were born into.

it's like being proud of being blonde, it's stupid...how can you be proud of something you had no influence in that you did nothing to attain...

did you actually read what I posted, did you comprehend any of it?

this is about what white people have done on to others not considered their equal on an industrial scale for centuries...and continue to do in the US then deflecting, hiding and making excuses for their behaviour just as you are doing...

this isn't about them it's about b*tth*les who persist their racist attitude

maybe you're a loser who has accomplished nothing in life and can only find solace in something he was born with, that would be so pathetic...

I put the flag on just for that reason, it gives context to my opinion...I have no pride in being canadian(no shame either) I don't see myself as being superior to anyone else because of where I live...

what you wear, your body language, how you present yourself is part of how we communicate who we are...some us are better at it than others, and some are oblivious to the signals they send out...

Yes unfortunately I did have the misfortune of reading your ignorant post. Most white people have done NOTHING to these people. You and the rest of these race gaiters are crying and moaning over things that happened nearly a century or more ago and you're punishing the rest of us because we have white skin. Not to mention most of the people who cry racism have never truly felt racism and sure ad hell never experienced the type of oppression experienced 200 years ago so whythe hell should they be treated like they just got released from some shckles? To be honest most of us are getting to the point where we don't give a damn about your shame or jealousy.

And you say it's not about those people who sacrificed of their own but you sure as hell don't make a differentiation you just lump them all together as white people.

So again... It's PERFECTLY acceptable for a black person to be proud of being black according to your original post but not a white man. You can take your ignorant hypocritical BS and go wallow in the Muck and mire of the rest of the self hating shame filled whites. I'm sure the black people will love you for it... At least until they turn on you. Believe this... If it does come down to a war like the guy from the DHS was advocating for, you will be nothing but cannon fodder to them. And you will deserve it.

Who the hell wears "Nazi paraphernalia?" I've never even seen such a thing in real life. You seem to be extrapolating this to a rather silly degree. Although I did ask the question, so perhaps you can build whatever hypothetical you choose.

So what you're saying is that you make a habit of judging people before you speak to them. Got it. What's funny is that I'm willing to bet that even though you're not American, you would have probably been one of those people that accused George Zimmerman of "profiling" Trayvon Martin. Oh, the irony!

No, I'm aware of that. That's why I cited it as a preexisting rule. But it's just interesting how people are still using it now. Specifically to label people as caucasian when they do something that is considered bad. That's clearly racist, is it not?

What are you even talking about? I'm illustrating how the pendulum has now swung too far back the other way. Revenge is not equality. That's what people like you don't seem to understand. Frederick Douglass was a slave. And he forgave his former slave master in person. Those are the actions of a great man. They display a tremendous amount of character. Today we have an entire country full of people who were never slaves who are taught to be bitter, hateful, and racist and above all not to forgive. Ever. For anything.

Depends on the person, doesn't it? I'd trade places with Kanye West in a heartbeat. He might be an idiot, but he's got a much better life than I do. He's rich, he's famous, and he's married to Kim Kardashian. Sounds pretty sweet to me.

you don't get out much apparently...

where is it written that forgiveness is required trait?...before forgiveness can even be considered there needs to be a sincere contrition and compensation by the offending party...

I wouldn't be gay. I'd be fine being any of those other things, though. But the biggest thing that would suck about being black would be all the hate and discrimination I would face from the rest of the black community and from hypocritical white liberals who would constantly call me "sellout" and "Uncle Tom." You don't expect me to change my beliefs just because I'm a different color, do you?

Then that's not really very equal, is it?

Why do some people try to pretend that respect is a one-way street? Where is the responsibility of the offended person to respect someone else's constitutionally guaranteed right to free speech and say, "Meh, maybe I'm overreacting here."

It never ceases to amaze me how people that always call for other people to alter their behaviors in the name of "sensitivity" or "respect" can never be bothered to return the favor. This is just selfishness masquerading as humanitarianism.

No, you're simply trying to guilt people into censoring themselves so that you don't have to be the bad guy authoritarian and censor them against their will. It's called coercion.

Sensitive people have just as much of a responsibility to let things go that bother them as anyone else has not to maliciously offend them. To imply otherwise is a self-serving double standard.

And that would expose their own prejudice, wouldn't it? Thus proving my point.

But aren't you doing the same thing? Telling someone that they can't express something they find funny? I don't mean to sound like a broken record here, but do you recognize the double standard you're promoting yet?

The question is not whether or not some people will be offended but whether or not their offense is justified. It's the exercise of recognizing the difference between malice and sensitivity. People who always side with the sensitive cannot tell the difference. They interpret everything as malice. Because their skin is so thin that everything hurts them. Other people have no obligation to walk on eggshells to protect these people's feelings (who will still find new ways to be offended anyway). Conversely, the sensitive people have an obligation to recognize when they are being unreasonable and need to respect other people's freedom of expression.

I guess that probably was my point. To show how ridiculous people are with what they find offensive. And how easily way too many people get offended. A healthy person's response to seeing a shirt like this would be to laugh and then go back to whatever they were doing and not think any more about it. On the other hand, high strung, sensitive, and emotionally damaged people will not only let it completely ruin their day but will find all kinds of reasons to try to make the person wearing the shirt change their behavior. And they won't see an ounce of unreasonableness in what they are doing. Because their feelings completely justify stepping way over somebody else's boundaries and controlling what they do. It's ridiculous.

Although to be fair, since you speak of context, it is important to recognize that this is a political forum. So it tends to be a haven for high strung, sensitive, and emotionally damaged people. The responses here are not that indicative of the responses of most people out in the real world who are much more well adjusted and much less politically minded in general.

What you don't realize is that you perpetuate these things by continuing to make them a big deal. Morgan Freeman said it best. If you want to stop racism, stop talking about it. Resentment isn't like cancer. If you ignore it, it actually does go away. Because whatever you focus on, you get more of. That's how the brain works. Most people just don't know how to make that kind of paradigm shift. They're so used to feeling guilty or victimized that they don't know how to just be normal.

If more people actually listened to Martin Luther King's message instead of just trying to fill their pockets capitalizing on it, we would have healed as a nation 50 years ago.
